Everyone I know who went works M-F, as do most people in the area.

Well that's not going to help your economy, nor is yelling at the Prez.

I think two million seems a little high, yet 60,000 seems way too low considering the photos and videos.
Regardless, that's still a hell of a way to "just say NO!"

PLEASE NOTE:

It seems some of the conversation is drifting from the topic, which is the number of people at yesterday's rally in DC:

Everyone throws out wild guesses, inflated or deflated depending on their stance. I'm sure it was more than 60,000. But 2 million is a HUGE overestimate. From the pictures I've seen and compared to previous events, I'll guess maybe 100,000. Take my guess with a grain of salt, just like I take yours. I'm not an infallible genius, neither are you. Either way, this will just be another thing that people will rampage over because no one will agree.

No matter what the true numbers turn out to be, it is still an impressive gathering. It's also a bit of a disappointment. It's great that they're protesting, but I think that too many people are missing the target. I've seen lots of pictures and many people are carrying the typical propaganda signs. They were focused on demonizing Obama, as if he's an immortal demon that's been screwing over the American people for at least a century. He's nothing more than the current figurehead. You don't get to be president without kissing the right butts. Obviously, Obama missed a few cheeks.

Just imagine what it would be like if you had near limitless power and influence. Removing a threat would hardly be a challenge. I notice Glenn Beck seems to be in good health

A million is a sizable amount of people...

Two million is a multitide of people...

Either number, even if it is somewhere im between, this is epic.
This is a very significant protest, I am sure Obama's ego has taken a large hit.

Here is another headline news article on this:

A million march to US Capitol to protest against 'Obama the socialist'

As many as one million people flooded into Washington for a massive rally organised by conservatives claiming that President Obama is driving America towards socialism.

The size of the crowd - by far the biggest protest since the president took office in January - shocked the White House.

Demonstrators massed outside Capitol Hill after marching down Pennsylvania Avenue waving placards and chanting 'Enough, enough'.

This write up has a great picture on it...

Wow, to think this is not in the MSM...why the blackout?

The New York Times says the police declined to estimate the crowd — or rather the corporate media declined to report it — because the number was around two million, the largest protest in the capitol’s history.

The protest out-numbered Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. That march was estimated at around 200,000 people.

I said this in another thread about this subject but I think I'll say it again.

I don't care if you agree with the beliefs of this crowd or not. I find it INSPIRING to see that many Americans out there PEACEFULLY (haven't heard about any violence yet) protesting a government that they think is getting out of hand.

Someone was talking about how everything was run in Europe or something. Well guess what? This isn't freaking Europe. We have our own way of doing things, why the hell do you think our forefathers left to begin with? We must be doing something right if people come from other countries to get care over here!

Like I said: It is inspiring to see that many people out there doing something they believe in.

There is an agenda in everyone's words, or else they wouldn't be spoken.

Which makes your point completely moot.

Lets see know?

The National Mall is nearly 310 acres.

1 acre is 4,840 sq. yards.

1 person for every 2 sq. yards is a reasonably loose crowd.

Loosely packed the NM will hold around 1.5 million give or take and some more if more densely packed.

The crowd overflowed the NM into the surrounding area's.

60,000????????????

Only if you are extremely partisan Obama backer who does not mind stretching the truth to the point of an outright lie.

If those were over a million Obama backers, I wonder if it would have gotten such cursory coverage. When a single Party controls 90% of the Broadcast and Print Media along with the entire Federal Government, we are screwed.

Am I the only one who finds it odd that aerial photos are not all over the place like they were following the Million Man March?

I did see a video that showed the National Mall was full and overflowing. That much is clear, but how many were in the overflow from the mall?

If over a million people marching on DC gets so little attention it is proof that the Media is DNC controlled is it not?

I was wondering this as well. The aerial photos should be all over the place.

After reading all the comments in this thread and reading other articles and comments across the web, I agree that 2 million is probably a bit high. If I were to average all I've seen, I'd say it would be somewhere between 500,000 and 1.5 million.

I Agree, It seems that we tax payer's are going to get hit hard. I noticed the two major players Big pharma and the Insurance businesses are not saying much about this health bill, hmmmmm wander why. I was in Greece in '79 and i can tell you all first hand that Greece health care is the pits with a 50% tax on it's population.

Let's clean up our own corruption on the hill first before passing any more laws, that includes the Republicans also.

Remember the MANDATORY car insurance back in carter days, look at the results, how many of you know of anyone that does NOT have car insurance?........, Now replace CAR with HEALTH, see my point!!!, Who's up next to be FINED for not having Health insurance if caught.

OK, that off my chest and getting back to the subject at hand.

I would say that if everyone stood shoulder to shoulder, then Yea, it could be more then 60K, Kinda of hard to tell just by one or two photo's. What we need is an aerial photo, if one could be found.

Edited to add......

Aerial, photo's and video's

I've 'marched' in DC.

I've participated in 'Walks' for various causes, too.

I've been to rallys. One million people out on the streets, concentrated dwon Pennsylvania Avenue?? No one would be able to move.

You also first claimed or implied, as you always do, that the numbers in more than 60,000 is just propaganda from Republicans...Then you said the streets would have to be full two to four blocks in order to be in the millions, then you took a look at Ashley's video and still claimed the number was low...

Don't tell me, you are a lefwinger right?... and you are the kind that claims all this is just rightwing propaganda despite the fact that Americans from all political denominations, including in these forums have spoken up against the Obama administration...
It is obvious you have your own agenda/propaganda trying to dismiss this protest...

well Yeah i do you see unlike the USA we have a DIRECT TAX..

No messing with forms "name yes" so they know WHO you are other than that we have ALL the medical records ON COMPUTER so no matter were i MOVE in the UK a doc can call up my ENTIRE medical RECORD since BIRTH and know everything "even things i didnt know lol" like getting jabs when i was a kid..

In the USA you PAY insurance companies TO cover you LIKE A CAR?

what kinda self centered bull crap is that??? INSURANCE IS TO MAKE PROFIT not to make you HEALTHY or they would LOSE money!!!

and on another note.. Why do you guys find it SO WRONG to PAY for someone who is less well off than YOU are to get health care??

I pay TAX even when im HEALTHY in order for my FELLOW citizen to be COVERED...

Here in the UK its a RIGHT to get HEALTH CARE FREE at the POINT OF USE

we have a two systems PUBLIC "we love" and PRIVATE.. we have the CHOICE of BOTH

Even if YOU CAN afford to go PRIVATE you are STILL able to get FREE treatment BECAUSE YOU PAY FOR IT REGARDELESS

and its about 10 $ out my pay check.. but i NEVER need to worry about losing my job or going broke over STUPID medical BILLS

I suggest you Take a really good look at the system you have, its corrupt and its IMMORAL..

"nixon" would you buy a car from this man? "would i buy health insurance" more like...

Not on your nelly

Indeed but guess what WE CREATED every "freaking" way of life you have...

its not our fault you get ripped off and think its still the wild west now is it?

Lets look at 2 points of the argument here shall we..

The reason for the independence of the United states was over TAX without representation correct?

Now from here .. Be for this You had more or less the same set up as us lot "tho granted it was piss poor at the time"...

But this is not 200+ years ago IS IT?

We do not harp on about HEALTH care do we? NO

there is something AMERICAN about MONEY they "freakin" love it as you pointed out

Im ok JACK long as iv got MINE... this is the mentality you have as a nation and it shows

we dont CARE because we are the USA

and you wonder why some people have some distaste for the USA

and yes you do have great health professionals and do you know why that is? MONEY

but you have 48 million PEOPLE with 0 health care

but yet you go round the planet blowing people up for? WMDs that do not even exists and BRIBE other countries "economic might" to get them to be your bitch

I have news for you

CHINA is the NEW USA... more people = more profits and that is why they are trying to DE BASE the USD.

wake up

I, like a lot of US citizens have had multiple opportunities to live in a country that offers the "advantages" you are so proud of.

I agree that it is appropriate for you to support and defend your way of life and your "rights'.

The choice I have made, apparently along with a few of me mates, is the exercise of a few of the advantages we have remaining in our representative constitutional republic.

Liberty; personal liberty. That includes life, and the pursuit of happiness; which for me is to an extent comprised of helping those that are unable but expressing tough love and reality therapy to those that refuse to pull their own weight.

And then protest on the inequality of it all and demand more "rights". Even those that are in this country illegally and through design or ignorance threaten the above mentioned "advantages".

Once the patients that run the asylum realize thet they may give to themselves "free" cake and circuses for life; the asylum is slipping from life support to euthanasia.

IMHO

This is most assuredly still the "wild west'.

As a government experiment still in it's comparative infancy compared to most political models; the USA has gone from 0 to dominant world economy in @ 210 years or so.

Some market corrections are expected.

It continues to be the benchmark for the world when all civil factors are considered.

More importantly; it is the one I choose to support with my every fiber on a daily basis.

I have diminishing tolerance for potshots and loathe aimed by those that little experience and have not likely been further from Podunk than Kittering Heights.

I can understand that people in the usa are like "dude no way am i paying for xxx" but lets look at it really..

We "think" Money is OURS when the fact that its printed by people we are not aware of to keep people stupid?

look at this statement on c-span

The grassroots group FreedomWorks sponsored a march & rally in Washington to protest "big government." Soeakers include former House Majority Leader Dick Army (R-TX), FreedomWorks Pres. Matt Kibbe, Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) and many others.

one thing sticks out "BIG GOVERNMENT"

what is Big? the FED? a group of banks who print money and charge your Goverment Intrest?

The fact that the FIT "federal income tax" is Illegal? you pay the IRS money when the constitution of the united states clearly says its illegal ? but yet 1.5 million people can go to a rally over what?

the fact that 46 million of your fellow people have NO way of affording to get covrage because an insurance company WILL NOT insure you for a PRE exsisting condition??

that is CRAZY.. really crazy

over here its not about TAX we whine about SERVICE..

as your president points out and rightly so .. YOUR country is the ONLY country who PAYS over the odds for health care because of capitalism..

and if being socialist means that my mate next door ever gets ill HE knows he will get all the care WE can provide for FREE via my tax then good on him.. I dont walk past a man on the street in need of help regardless...

and lets not for get most of the places that have a "universal" heath care system have been around a lot longer than the USA..

its about the mind set of a people... we in Europe hate tax as much as the USA .. but some things in life should not be about profit

and your health care system is ALL about profit..

To us it just seems like your all money grabbing self centered idiots

i do not mean to sound harsh but that is the truth .. we kinda think you guys are crazy
