I don't know what the official count is, but I want you to look at the pictures used by both sources. It becomes pretty clear right away that the New York Times wanted to downplay the amount of people who showed up. I'd be willing to bet it was in the millions. It is possible that both are conflating and the truth lies in the middle. Either way, the downplay side has a lot more voice here in the US.

WASHINGTON — A sea of protesters filled the west lawn of the Capitol and spilled onto the National Mall on Saturday in the largest rally against President Obama since he took office, a culmination of a summer-long season of protests that began with opposition to a health care overhaul and grew into a broader dissatisfaction with government.

Now the Daily Mail. Which I know many of you will say is biased.

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Up to two million people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as "Obamacare makes me sick" as they protested the president's health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.

The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.

People were chanting "enough, enough" and "We the People." Others yelled "You lie, you lie!" and "Pelosi has to go," referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

I doubt it was in the millions, unless they showed up after I left. There was also no more traffic on 495 or 66 this morning than any other Saturday.

Hmmm, lets see... some of the other major stories on the Daily Mail website for today are:

Revealed: The first picture of mysterious Dr Li, the £1.6m lover of shamed Rover boss

Licence-payers foot the bill for BBC's Mark Mardell, his pet rats...and an extra £4,500 from an irate Brussels landlady

The snooper's handbook: Guide that will ensure no home improvement escapes the Council Tax inspectors

Why your nails are growing 25 per cent faster than your grandparents' did

I'm thinking the NYT may have a bit more solid journalism behind its reporting. At least I'm not writing it off as biased based on this comparison.

I've been looking for a credible count, or picture all day! I have heard reports from 10's of thousands to 1.5 million! They were projecting 470K, so I didn't really believe the lower reports.

I know a lot of people from my area that decided to make the drive up! We had about 1000 here in Tallahassee at the local Tea Party, and several small surrounding towns had stuff going on as well, plus there was a Gun Show vying for the same crowd, and an FSU football game, so getting 1000 to show was HUGE!!

That time lapse photo makes it look like a significant number marching!

Have you seen any photos that could be compared to Inauguration Photos??
I heard the crowd today exceeded the Inauguration crowd!?!

I'd like to think so too, but how many headlines have we seen over the past couple of years for plagarism, lies, facts claimed that were purely fiction, etc., etc.!

NYT has no credibility these days!

I'm surprised the NYT even wrote about it.

Here's a headline or two they could've used.

"Rally For Obama Reaches 2 Million"

"Seven People Showed Up For Tea Bagging Event"

"In Depth Look At All The People Who Are Stupid And Hate Obama"

"Help! We're Going Broke And Taking Money From Mexico To Keep Afloat"

"Venesuela Is Looking Pretty Good About Now! Do They Need A Newspaper There?"

Just a suggestion. . .

I absolutely love the time lapse video. I don't care if you agree with these people or not. To have that many like minded individuals show up and PEACEFULLY (I haven't heard of any violence thus far) protest what they believe to be a corrupt government should inspire you to stand up for what you believe in.

I love this country! There's just a few bums to throw out and some things to be repaired.

You are right, I cannot find anything from any news source that is quoting the police or anything about the crowd size.

ABC news states on their site that they have been misquoted by others that they stated 1.5 million and it was only in the thousands. What is kind of funny is that if it was 1.5 million-1500 thousand is in the thousands.

I will look for police or some government numbers-they should be accurate.LOL

Description of YouTube video can be expanded, and he tells about the capture rate, and how he edited and picked frames. The camera captured every 2 seconds, but the guy uploaded every 60 seconds. So, I counted and there are 60 frames from the time the road is completely full and movement toward the Capital starts, until the end of the caravan goes through that intersection!!

That means the crowd took up that entire area as they marched for over an hour!!

That had to be well over 1 million! There were surely more people already at the end of the road, and on the side roads, so 1.5 to 2M seems reasonable to me!!

Might've been a quarter of a million. It was HUGE and thank god people in this country care enough to show up. Only shame about it was that they didn't occupy the Capitol building and stay there. Now THAT would be awesome!

revolution just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling!

Not too bright of the poster in that link to call the rally a KKK/nazi/9/12 rally, and include his e-mail in his profile. I see SPAM in his future...

I think the thousands estimate is accurate wheher it be 10s 20s 50s.. it was thousands of people...

what was funny to me is this from the White House on Friday..

White House officials on Friday professed to know nothing of the planned demonstrations. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs queried reporters about the planners and their issues. "I don't know who the group is," he said with a shrug.

I was like that once. Only I used a blanket, was four years old and eventually the boggie man went away.

What's Gibbs excuse?
