I didn't get to watch any of the coverage on the event today as I had to go to my wife's company picnic...yay

I'm really curious as too how many people showed up there and I"m glad that the whole thing has been peaceful for the most part...which is very good.

I don't like the fact that all of this really started with Ron Paul and his campaign and that the whole message has been muddled.

I didn't see any anti-war protesters in any of those pictures...and a TRUE conservative would be yelling loudly against it.

It's nice that the end the fed movement is still pushing forward.

Also...I've always wanted to visit Washington D.C.....and just get a taste of all of the history this country has. To be part of something like this...with thousands of people protesting peacefully at the very city that is supposed to lead the free world....

It would be awesome.

What was your take on the participation of minorities?

Why is the race of the majority of participants such an issue for people when it comes to these protests? I never heard any concern that the may day protests were mostly Hispanics, or that the million man march was mostly blacks.

Why has "white people" become such a bad thing to be? You act as if White people being there some how discredits it.

EDIT: By the way, just glancing at those pictures I saw quite a few Hispanics and Asians. Its not like black people don't agree with this movement though. I have several black friends, guys you would never suspect, that cant stand Obama.

So, enough with this racist bull. Enough demonizing white people. Its bigoted and its racist.

Folks have the right to organize and to come down to DC to have their voices heard ...

No matter if one agrees with their cause or not.

No need to insult them for it.

Especially when as was the case today, they do it with purpose and civility.

Some people have to wake up, or the march for freedom is going to walk all over them. It doesn't mater what your ethnic background is - It doesn't matter what your party affiliation is - What maters is that this is "The March of Freedom". You are either for freedom or you are against freedom. We need this to grow into larger protests. About damn time we all stood up and yelled with one voice.

The police from what I could see were great. Like I said a little earlier, they're pretty used to this sort of thing around here. One of my concerns given some of the demonstrations during some Obama speeches was to see if people were going to be unadvisedly attempting to carry weapons into the district. That is something that is taken very seriously around here by the police. But it seems, again so far as I could tell, that the organizers managed to convince people not to push that issue. In fact on the front page of the organizing website they had this:

DO NOT BRING WATER PISTOLS OR ANYTHING LIKE IT (remember where you are)

That issue being averted to my knowledge, and to answer your question, the DC metro police and Capitol police were great. The rest of the 10 or so local law enforcement agencies were hiding behind the hedge talking to their wrists.

I just love the fact that people are coming together and standing up for what they see as their truth and what they feel is justice.

It doesn't matter WHAT it is that they are coming together for -
Whether it is rightwing or leftwing or centerwing- is irrelevant.

It's the fact that they have come together for a common cause in response to something that does not resonate with them -they have come without weapons - with only their wit, spirit and a few signs.

This is major.
This is who we are.
This is who we need to be - if we are going to choose our own path.

Thanks for the independent media coverage. MSM is already reportedly grossly under-reporting the number of attendees. It looked like lots of folks to me. "tens of thousands' is still a HUGE number, but I seriously feel they were undercutting the figures for a reason. I wonder how much longer they can continue to play it off as a 'few disgruntled right-wing nut jobs.'

Pigpen, my experience has been that the MSM gets its crowd numbers from the Park Service estimates.

Depending on the venue in the city, they are pretty good at it. Had lots of practice. They use a grid system, at least on the Mall, from what I've read. Can't explain it more accurately, might be on a website somewhere....

I had to go downtown earlier today, and stopped by the rally. I noticed a distinct difference between the crowd today, and the usual suspects who protest in DC. I didn't see any anarchists- although it would have nice if the CNN bus had been tipped over. I didn't see any Obama effigies, as was the norm during anti-Bush rallies. In fact, most of the signs weren't anti-Obama, they were anti-big government/socialism. Not much in the way of screaming. No freaks that I saw. I didn't see MSNBC either- I guess they are still in denial. It was very civilized, unlike large leftist gatherings. I did see some anti-tea party hippies shouting at people, but they were largely ignored. I was hoping G. Beck would have made an appearance, but I didn't see him anywhere, although I was only there for about an hour.
Didn't take any pictures, as I was wearing a suit, and didn't want anyone thinking I was with the Administration. I did see a couple of suspicious types with long lenses scanning the crowd, but they may have been journalists or bloggers of some sort.

I don't think there's anything planned for tomorrow ... nothing official that I am aware of.

Also there's a Triathlon planned in the same area tomorrow near the Washington Monument.
