MSNBC is replaying 9/11 "as it happened"

Just channel surfing and found MSNBC replaying the events of 9/11 as they aired it...

BUT, they seem to be manipulating the color of some shots and they have a wired black patch on the bottom left + wispy smoke "graphic" supper imposed on top of the original footage. (distracting)

Any wild theories as to why?
