Lighting your shelter.

I was tooling around looking to find some ideas to utilize 2 liter bottles and came across the following.

I wonder if light piping would work as effectively.
I am going to mess around with that.

That is great, they really give off a strong, clean light, trouble is I live in an apartment, I dont think the neighbors would be too pleased if I stuck a couple of them in the roof!!!

things around. Oddly, I was pondering the idea of building a
solar collector using soda bottles just 2 days ago. I also thought
about building walls with stacked 2 liter drink bottles. Why recycle
when we can build with it? Great find reticle.

I know it's a trivial point, but i take it these would have all the positive effects of the mood enhancing daylight bulbs you can purchase, the ones that simulate natural light?

One thing I would caution people is that if you are in a bug-out scenario, be careful using something so illuminating. It can give away your position, if you are trying to stay off the radar.

I know you can use them for fishing too.

I want to be perfectly clear, just in case it wasn't, that this is not my idea.
It is a great idea though.
I can imagine using this idea in a makeshift shelter/hunting lodge.

Have you tired it ? This is such a good idea, I would like to put this to use some time. You posted this almost a month ago, have you tinkered around with it yet?

I have not tinkered with the idea yet.
But I do have some ideas.

There's actually a type of skylight that works by the same principal. I forget what it's called or where I read about it, but it seems to be the same sort of thing.

The sun would provide for us all, if we would only let it.

The thing is you only get light when the sun is out. In a real survival situation odds are you wouldn't need light during the day, but would need it at night instead. My idea is to get glow in the dark rings and use this light to charge them up each day.
