It was very large. I read all of it. Very interesting. A little over my head in places, but overall great! I have to go back and read it again.

That is a great observation. I have seen this as well. I am happy that someone took the time to point this out. All though it has turned into kind of a star happy fest. Free stars never did hurt anyone..... Or did they

Stars and Flags? Bah, humbug!

I only star reptilian YouTube videos and posts that have been removed and replaced with the box that says "NO OUTLET"!

The thing is we all know that we dont do threads to gain flags and posts to get starred, but it does help you feel better about your work and efforts when it does happen.

To be really excited about an issue only to have it lost on the forum to the bottom of the pile while other threads about the pimple on a calves testicles gets millions of responses can really affect the effort you put into the next piece, eventually it can feel like back in school being the only one left standing as the teams are picked, its the same feeling i know.

This is not to undermine the extrodinary efforts by certain members here that go way above and beyond, I know there are a few here that I can flag after the first sentance, before I even read the rest because I trust their work, their ability to bring truth to a subject and knowledge to my life.

Stars and flags only tell me that someone was there. I would much rather see replies when I feel something is enough for me to start a thread about it. Even the obligatory "It sucked" is something. At least I know then that my time was spend writing something that someone read.

I find this thread quite odd.

Can't deny there are a lot of close minded "clubs" forming on ATS and this star and flag system contributes to their survival, like anti-sleeper agents, proof freakazoids, john lear bashers, pro-insert anything here- ... you name it.

I have come to realize that the stars are not what they were once worth. Consequently, I'm dumping all of my stars on the open market and getting what little value I can.

I suggest you all do the same. Soon you will all need wheelbarrows full of stars to purchase one scintilla of respect.

Hurry before it is too late!!!!

Stars and flags should do nothing more than show you that your thread has been appreciated by other members. AKA, members enjoyed it and would like to see more content of that caliber.

The tragedy you speak of, is when thorough threads are wasted because of lack of exposure. It is a tragedy because it did not get enough attention, not because you were not starred and flagged.

And to the above poster than said they read my thread, and that some of it was over your head. I promise you, it is not over your head. Re-read it, then if you still don't understand read it again. It is an extremely important perspective which will help not only yourself, but the members of this forum in the future when you contribute.

So should we get everyone to star and flag? Just reap the system of stars and flags to totally spiral it out of control? Well it's worth a try!

I like John Lear. I hope he gets to come back to ATS one of these days soon. He told a lot of truths that people just could not believe. He has a lot of knowledge that is incredible.
