In other words, forget the republicans, they can't do a thing other than talk. Chances are good that they'll vote unanimously no (with the possible exception of a few RINOs), and it doesn't matter in the least. Instead, this is a huge deal. If Obama's policies are so wonderful, wouldn't it be smarter for the democrats to just pass everything as soon as possible without the republican support so they can take all the credit?

well, your arguement makes sense to normal people...but these republicans in congress don't want their constituents to have the same type of choice in healthcare that they themselves now have. apparently they are too busy making sure the insurance lobby money keeps flowing in, rather than be bothered helping their own constituents that are being denied coverage.

You know what's funny? This little phrase, uttered by this little man is what people are talking about 2 days after it happened. Joe Wilson absolutely blew it for the Republican's position in this whole thing.

People could and SHOULD be talking about how much the program is going to cost and where the money will come from. They should be discussing the bill itself, or Obama's stubbornness in gaining bipartisan support... and the ideas he's gotten from across the aisle. But they're talking about what a jerk this man is or isn't.

It's a sad statement about what people think is a priority. :shk:

It's been discussed. Obama keeps trying to sell the same rotten story over and over again. It's only so long before everyone gets tired of asking the same questions. Perhaps that was the plan all along? We say, "Where does the money come from?" He says, "We'll clean up government spending," and we say, "That won't cover it," and he says, "Sure it will," then we rinse and repeat.

There are a lot of important questions about this health care reform bill that do require a lot of thought and discussion. There are a lot of problems with how to manage it, how to fund it and what it will mean to everyone.

Our duty as conscientious Americans is to read, understand, discuss, and come up with something that is equitable and does help everyone without costing everyone in the end.

It's time that the average American stop taking the talking points from the MSM and read the bill themselves, question it, dissect it and understand it. Then formulate an opinion on the real issues that come from the real bill and not the fear mongering from the Right and the bull dunk promises from the left.

There must be a way to be conservative and yet have what is essentially the right to life that is afforded us in the constitution. The right to life is essence also means the right to a healthy life. That's what this bill should be about. But we shouldn't break the bank in doing so.

The partisan politics as it is going on now is going to eventually end, whether it ends peacefully or if it ends in a political bloodbath is for us to decide. We are on the cusp of something that is going to change and define this country for what it will mean to be American in the 21st century. That is hinging on this bill. Will we embrace the past being afraid of the future or will we learn from the past and forge a better future for us all?

This last election brought with it a great awakening in the constituency. That can only be good for democracy. People are talking politics much more than they ever used to. People are aware, people are asking questions about their government. This is also a good thing.

Now more than ever we in this country need our citizens to ask these questions and demand answers from the elected officials. Yes Congressman yelled "you lie" but it is his right and there are people behind him. Even though the Congressman was misinformed about that statement it was his right to say it.

We as Americans are tired of lip service, we are tired of speeches that go no where. We want the truth, we want to be informed and thank god we live in the information age so that we as the public can get to that truth, we can get to that knowledge and come up with the information ourselves.

That link above is the current one going through congress right now. It is important for each of us to be familiar with it. Read it and try and understand it so that we can all come up with our own opinions on what works and what doesn't.

I don't believe that this is in it's current form economically feasible. But we should have a say and demand from our lawmakers that they make it economically feasible.

I see now that you have again posted that President Obama wants compromise.

As my earlier post pointed out, this is not the case. Creating a bill, then "making concessions", is not the same as a bi-partisan bill.

So, now that you said you read all my posts, and you must have missed this question, the only one I asked, so could you address it?

Actions speak louder than words. What are the Presidents actions, and what do they show?

Edit to add full presidential title to the aforementioned politician. (I still believe everyone who has a title they earned shaould have it used. Including the nefarious former President Bush)

This is my first post to ATS...I've been a long-time lurker and just signed up yesterday. Hopefully I don't get flamed too terribly much for this, but here goes...

I'm really, really surprised at the lack of respect so many people have for the office of the President.

Hate on Obama and think he's the worst thing to happen to the country in the history of history, but by God show some respect for the position and what it represents!

Interrupting a Presidential address is pretty outrageous; insulting the President in the midst of a nationally televised address is, to me, unthinkable. Has it happened in the past? Sure, the democrats booed Bush on more than one occasion I'm sure. Is that as bad as what happened this week? I think it is. Dubya was disrespected multiple times and each of them was a disgrace to US politics; none of those times justify or make it okay to do the same to Obama.

IMO it borders on insanity that anyone who would defend the US constitution with their lives (true of most people on this board I would bet) would applaud such a thoughtless, polarizing act.

What a total lack of respect for the President this shows. Like him or not, the POTUS deserves respect. Who he is and what he represents are two different things.

The very last thing Obama's doing is trying to be Bipartisan. He just needs republicans on board so the democrats won't take the brunt of the blame if the thing causes massive problems. I think he understands what the real outcome of his health insurance reform will be, whether or not any of us actually understand, and he knows that democrats can't take the hit when it causes problems.

To think that Obama is just this big-hearted guy who wants everyone to get along is beyond just being unobservant of what's actually going on, but I'd actually call it intentionally misleading or burying heads in sand.

I personally don't mind partisanship, because at least people tend to tell more of the truth when they're not trying to satisfy everyone, but it allows the common person to look at what politicians of each side are actually doing and draft a somewhat accurate picture of them. All this bipartisan reach-across-the-isle baloney (and it is baloney, none of them from either side really care about giving the other side anything) is just muddying up the waters so people not involved in politics can't really see what's going on on either side.

I think its about time somebody grew some balls and called him out on the lies comin thru his teeth. Good for the congressman. Its like they are the aristocracy and we are the little pessents that are just please to here them speak. Thats where this world is headed. The politicians have the power and most of the country goes all puppy-eyed when we see them talk. Enough is enough. Its about time we get to the heart of the matter and find out what these people actually stand for in their lives and in the bills that they are sponsering.

Every canidate always promises change, but we never see it. Every bill that gets passed promises new ways to fix problems but they just create more and way-lay the problem they said they would solve in the first place. We the people need to start callin these fockers out when they open their mouths and lie straight to our faces cause if we dont, the same ole stuff will just keep happenin.

Amen brother!! He is a dupe, a patsy for the "Revenge of the Hippies" crowd, those "poser" hippies who thought it was cool to be a "hippie" but in the end didn't really believe in going against the establishment, government, etc. as long as THEY ARE the establishment and they want to impose an insane mish-mash of wacked out new age environmental ideas and all the rehashed failed utopian ideals of the past.

I will go one step further and say the sheeple are the people who believe EITHER party is their friend. The poor and minorities are the pawns of the democrats and those who like guns or religion or freedom are the pawns of the republicans. The political parties have us (not me) duped into picking teams like you choose which football team to call "yours". You basically pick a jersey to root for, doesn't really matter who is wearing it.

We need some new parties who abide by the constitution. We need to impose term limits. We need to eliminate lifetime pay and benefits for ex- congressman and presidents. We need to eliminate lobbying. We need to eliminate special interest funding for potential candidates. We could look at making congress like jury duty. We need to vote out all of those in "power" and start fresh. The only way to do it is to have new candidates step up and promise these changes then stick to them when in the job.

Quite frankly I am more pessimistic, I think we are beyond repair. Diversity has destroyed this nation (no I do not mean race I mean cultures both political and foreign). I really think some form of break up is in our future, the divides have become too great unless way more people wake up and realize that what made this country great was less government, the constitution, etc.

The only illinformed are those supporting the marxists trying to takeover the country, unless of course you agree with that ideology. Yeah we have been headed towards socialism lite for a long time but we are on the brink of fascism at this point, albeit "velvet gloved" fascism, for now.
