I have been pondering about this to and even read a few books seeking possible physical explanations on this. Turns out there is a somewhat revolutionary thought experiment on this in quantum physics called "quantum immortality", assuming the many worlds interpretation is true, it might be feasible that one cannot experience his/her own death.

In short, the experiment goes like this (it sounds a bit like an expanded shrödinger's cat): suppose there is a gun with six rounds pointed at one's head, the trigger being wired up to a quantum spin measurement apparatus. When a new photon's spin is measured to have a certain value, the trigger is pulled, in case of a different spin, the gun just clicks and does not fire. Now, any observer will eventually (and probably quite soon) see the bloody demise of the subject. However, in the eyes of the doomed individual; he experiences no death and just switches to a new dimension in space and time where the gun just clicks, walking away unharmed. This only holds true if the many worlds interpretation of quantum physics is true, so I wouldn't recommend trying this at home. You wouldn't be proving anything to us anyway, since you'd just die to the best of our knowledge. The key is in the relativity: you can only prove it to yourself.

I find a lot of similarities between this thread and this experiment and in some way or another, I think it explains a lot of the close calls I've experienced and walked out unharmed (car crashes, near misses, ...). Just wanted to share this.

I've actually had a few close calls. Now that I think about it there were a few times that I don't know how I wasn't in a very bad accident. I also almost drowning once while in Cancun. I just remember thinkn man life wasn't bad but wasn't great either and was pretty much fine with what was gona happen then I washed up on the beach?

For my job (service security alarms)
I got called out 1 night about 3:00am, whilst driving to the job my eyes kept closing, I'd then "jump" back awake. This has happened a few times, and I'd have to adjust my steering (as you'd expect to be heading off the road)

However, that night I swear I actually fell asleep... "jumped awake" and I was riding along 70mph in the middle of the road. You'd think falling asleep at the wheel and you'd go straight off the road?
Maybe I was just lucky.

Another interesting fact - my best mate and bestman when i got married, who I'd speak to every day & meet up with once a week prior to this event, I hardly see now. 8months passed without speaking to him, then he rang me up last week out of the blue.

Weird theory...makes you think though.

Reading the post about quantum immortality brought back memories of a very dark time in my life, so dark in fact that one evening, complety sober and right-minded I put a gun in my mouth. With every intention of ending my existence I pulled the trigger. Click....This gun had NEVER misfired in over 500 rounds.That moment was a real "awakening" in my life. I have been changed and somehow different ever since. I sit here wondering what I have done to my loved ones in other threads of my life.

I had to give you a star and flag simply because this is one of the most interesting theories I have read in quite some time! I'm not necessarily saying that I believe it, but it is certainly interesting and, as with everyone else who reads this thread, it makes me think of all the "close calls" I have had in my life. I am currently 47 years old, have 3 beautiful daughters, and am very happily married to my second wife. This theory of yours makes me think about the time I was 16 or 17 and was in a roll over accident with two friends of mine on a remote dirt road in the mountains. I was not driving and was ejected from the car. All I remember was the car sliding sideways and starting to go over. The next memory was me crawling out of a sticker bush without a single scratch. I had the wind knocked out of me and that was it. One of my friends had got himself out of the car and was screaming my name when I got up. He was positive that I was dead. My friend who was driving had somehow lost consciousness, but we woke him up fairly easily. He had blood all over him, but when he cleaned himself off he only had a tiny little cut that just bled a bit. So that makes me wonder - going with your theory, did I possibly die in that timeline? And if so, my three daughters will never exist in that timeline and any descendents that may come from them will never exist. And all of the lives we have affected in some way are going to be changed in some way.

I have had other close calls too, but this one (and others prior to my first marriage) really makes me think. There are several parallel universes (or whatever) where I am dead and my children were never born... if your theory is true.

There are other "events" where someone close to me had a close call too, including my oldest daughter who almost died at birth (did she die in an alternate universe?), but we can all go on and on with this...
