"Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan is sacked following pressure over faked photos of soldiers abusing an Iraqi prisoner.
The Queen's Lancashire Regiment earlier told a press conference the Mirror had to apologise for running the pictures and endangering British troops.
A statement from the Mirror said it had fallen victim to a "calculated and malicious hoax". The Mirror board said it would be "inappropriate" for Morgan to continue."

This is a big suprise. The main news today has featured Morgan defending himself and advertising an appearance by "Soldier A" on UK television tonight.

He has been vocal in defending the photograph's authenticity to the end but the newspaper's board seem to have accepted the official line that the UK photoraphs of British soldiers urinating on Iraqi prisoners are frauds.

The army regiment accused of the abuse has demanded an apology. It remains to be seen whether or not they will receive one.
