How does this phrase work...Much ado about nothing!

I am no fan of big O but my goodness this is just ridiculous. I can see the point about helping the president, it should be to help your country but the flap is past sensible.

I see nothing wrong with our leaders taking an interest in our future, our kids! Given the graduation rates are just terrible in most inner city schools, and his popularity this could be a good and inspiring thing for the kids.

I fear this is only the beginning of vilification of our leaders. As much as I detested Bush, I though it was nice that he visited the school.

This may really show what a nerd I was when I was a kid, but I LOVED all books on Abraham Lincoln! I read every single book I could get my hands on about him and his humble beginnings. We need to lighten up about this and focus on the radicals that are in the WH and in control of billions of dollars.

Yes, here in Hawaii everyone is in on Obama being born in Kenya. We where all paid $10,000 dollars out of Obama's personal bank account which he uses to buy cigarettes and but forged birth certificates. Thank god Fox is finally telling people the truth!

This is where parents come in. The responsibility for raising children falls squarely on the shoulders of the parents. It's my opinion that it's important to expose children to all sources of information, especially when nobody is really quite sure what the facts are (surrounding Obama).

Both of my kids (10 and 12) came to me around election time and asked me why I did not vote for Obama. I did not give them my version of Barack Obama, but I told them that there were questions that he was not willing to answer, and that his proposals were much to expensive.

My 12 year old went up to her room, and googled him. She came downstairs not 10 minutes later and asked "How could he be a US citizen and a foreign exchange student at the same time?". I replied "Now you know why I did not vote for Obama".

Finally! THE TRUTH COMES OUT!
I know I always refer to Obama as Our Glorious Leader, can barely function because I'm so damn stupid, and believe anything he says! I also hate white people ( and the irony is I AM white, go figure), hate America, can't wait to grab your guns, hate God and am a stinkin muslim lovin Communist!
Wow, I fell so much better admiting it! Conspiracies are exhausting!

I think the same could be said about the targeted age range. They have a long time to forget this. If they planned on doing this yearly it would seem just as strange.
It sounds ok, but maybe instead of having home economics or swim class, they should make courses that specialize in training these kids to make a difference in the world. Then we wouldnt have to pay two tax paid employees to do one job. He would get more applause if he changed that rather than this approach.

This thread is hilarious. I agree with the OP on this one. Education is a necessity. How could anyone disagree with that?

Most of you are focused on the wrong things and are so wrapped up in fear that you're looking for conspiracies in your own bedrooms and seem scared of your own shadows. You want a conspiracy??? The poor get poorer, and the rich get richer. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Here's the deal. Until you start THINKING, and quit voting for the two party system, you will always have the elite running the world. They are all on the same agenda whether democrat or republican. They pretend to be mortal enemies as they defend partisan issues, but, behind the scenes they're all playing golf together, shaking hands, and laughing about how ignorant and simple minded the American public truly is. They're just throwing bones for us to chew on while they continue lining their pockets between the corporate payoffs and our tax dollars.

GROW UP!!!

I have no problem with a President speaking to school children. I do however, know how this President and his Administration operates. I am from Chicago and have seen it first hand. This man stands for everything that I do not with an ideology that I would be willing to die in fighting against. Regardless of the topic, there is no way I want my 8 year old to be inspired by this man to do anything other than fight against the true ideals he stands for.

SO...you stand against public service and helping others. That's something that OBAMA did in Chicago. We certainly don't need that sort of thing in this country, do we???

You must also stand against a hard work ethic and promotion of diversity and unity. I can understand that as well. WE MUST KEEP EVERYONE SEGREGATED AND AT ODDS WITH EACH OTHER. That's something to fight against huh?

You must also stand against the American dream of coming from nothing and working your way to the top. I can see how that could potentially get under one's skin.

Anyway...I support none of these idiots because in the end, they're all self serving.

I love being a moderate in the USA because I get to laugh at all the idiots out there that make everything political. I am very sick of people hating others and coloring statements a certain way because of political affiliation. Its actions like that which create group mentality and lead to a weaker individual. Parents should encourage their kids to think for themselves and let them be wrong. Learning from our mistakes is the only sure fire way to make this a better country in respect to the world.

I find to either "side" of this to completely incomprehensible. I find parent's reactions to be completely unsubstantiated.

The president addressing school childrens should be the least of your concerns. How about keeping them off drugs, in school, and generally safe.

I have only read 7 pages so far but IMHO dr. love's post sums it up. History repeating itself... this movie has been shown before only not in YOUR backyard.

There are Obama books being passed out before the speech. They are being 'taught' Obama's version of Obama.

Do you have any reference that such is the case?

The lesson plan I saw makes reference to reading about other presidents (including Obama), but is certainly not specific to Obama.

To answer your question about our division, yes. Some of us don't even consider him our president. Nothing good can come from indoctrination with Marxist rhetoric.

The lesson plan that I saw rejected had suggested teachers have children write themselves a letter asking themselves what Obama wanted them to do *for him*...

I say indoctrination.

... trying to create a culture where people ask themselves "what can I do for my country" is all well and good. Trying to create a culture where people ask themselves.."what can I do for my president" is obviously something entirely different...

In the vid you posted I didn't hear Kennedy asking the latter

I am one of the Conservatives that is extremely suspicious of Obama, but I had to Star and Flag for the witty title!!

I also don't see anything wrong in the spirit of Obama's challenges! Our school children need to be thinking about what they can do to help this country in the future. They need to be considering community services. They need to be considering military service. They need to believe that college is necessary and attainable!

Obama scares me, but I think the message is good! As long as these things don't become mandatory, and as longs as the rhetoric doesn't slide into the "serve me" rather than "serve your country" then I see no problem with it!!

Yet you are extremely suspicious of Obama.

At what point do we say right is right, and wrong is wrong. Regardless of what the president does, do we not attempt to do what is right?

Obama doenst scare me, its those oppose Obama scare me! The conservative right that is against the help of a brother. The conservative right that cannot see those who need health care. The conservative right that pads their own pocket book while others do without.

At what point, does the conservative right, become the left. Is it when he or she loses their job? Is it when he or she loses their home?
Their arrogance and independence is dictated by their wallet. Nothing more.
When they are not in need, they deny the need of others, and when they are in need, they cry injustice!

America is sick with pride, and sick with greed. Until she can see beyond the needs of herself and reach beyond to the needs of the whole, then and only then can we truly call ourselves united.

Peace

If that was what he was really about, it would be fine. That said, I have no problem with helping others, but I will not be forced or have my children mandated to participate against our will. As for diversity, how do you achieve unity through diversity? And, how does spreading the wealth from those who earned it to those who didn't, build a work ethic. If I disagree with him, by virtually all his most intense supporters , I am a racist. That promotes unity. If he thinks he can divide us or our families and conquer, believe me he will do it and then try to convey a "Who Me?" attitude with the Obama style and charm to disarm his critics.

You are being deceived if you believe he is about anything other than about power. Always has been from his very beginnings.

Don't get me wrong, Bush is no better and really started this ball rolling. Obama has simply picked it up and is running with it. I wouldn't let Bush talk to my kids either.

Whats wrong with Obama speaking to the children, are you kidding...?

A Live address, during school teaching hours, no advance text (just announced today that it is available last minute the night before the speech after protests), no parents around to review with the kids, just liberal democrat teachers pushing the commie agenda, and worst of all, a list of questions produced by the Fed Gov. such as 'what can you do to help the president' and "why you should listen to the President and government officials". This bullcrap makes you want to click your heals and go Ya vol mon furah.

Here is the letter I sent off to the school superintendent, principal and teacher for my 9 year old daughter for the school district in the Chicago North Shore.

Subject: My Children are not to view the Obama Live Speech to Schools on Sept.8, 2009

My daughter, XXXXXXX, who attends 4th Grade at XXXXX School, will not be attending school on Sept. 8, 2009 due to Obama’s Live Speech to Schools on that date, unless I receive a call or email saying that this program will not be presented.

Having alternate activities for that day is not acceptable. A loss of state funding for the day is the punishment that your school is going to get if you proceed with this social indoctrination program akin to Adolph Hitler’s Youth. I am also going to contact as many other parents as I can so they can keep their children out of school that day too.

It is one thing for a president to encourage all kids to work hard and stay in school – that is reasonable. It is another thing entirely, however, to have the U.S. Department of Education send detailed instructions to public schools nationwide on how to glorify the president and the presidency, and push them to drive social change. It is not right to have children in a controlled subservient position where they cannot disagree without being ridiculed, or leave the environment.

This is the not the first time that the local schools has pushed the lousy, loony, leftist, liberal agenda.

1) While my daughter was at XXXXXX School last year, the children had to say the US Pledge of Allegiance in English and SPANISH. A Hispanic in class called her a Racist when she stopped saying it in Spanish per my direction.

2) My stepson in XXXX high school is now coming home telling me how great communism is and that it is important to have a strong central government. He said that he got this from his English teacher at XXXX High School.

These children’s mother grew up in a communist country and many relatives were killed by the Nazis in WWII. We know the indoctrination game and it must STOP, we will not tolerate it any longer. Free and open thinking and fair debate should be the goal,

The principal called my this afternoon saying that "on a school level, they were not going to force watching this, and he spoke to the teacher who said she was not going to watch it since it is in the middle of math, but she might show parts of it later." - Understand? a Bull-crap way of saying Maybe.

The following is from histclo.com...

Isn’t this close to Obama’s actions?

He alone, who owns the youth, gains the Future!
-- Adolf Hitler, speech at the Reichsparteitag, 1935

The Hitler Jugend (Hitler Youth), the NAZI party's youth movement, indoctrinated German youth to perpetuate the "1,000 year Reich." The Hitler Youth movement emphasized activism, physical training, NAZI ideology, especially nationalism and racial concepts, and absolute obedience to Hitler and the NAZI Party. Indoctrinating children in National Socialist idelogy was a key goal of the NAZI Party. Once Hitler assumed control over the German state, he used the Goverment to make the Hitler Youth the country's all encompasing youth movement. Hitler and other NAZIs leaders saw the indoctrination of young Germans as of critical importance.

When it comes to politics as reported by mass media truth is subjective to one's preconceptions. "Alternative" news sources are usually operating under conjunction fallacies. We just don't know for sure.

When a nations fails to recognize that which is right, and that which is less than right, they become subject to their own iniquity.

Obama is no Hitler, and it does not take a rocket scientist to see it.

This nation, on so many levels, has lost its ability to see that which is right and just, and it is this realization that puts fear for the future, a possibility in my eye.

Jesus said: That which you do unto the least of your brother you have done unto me.

This nation, founded on Truth, Equality and Justice has perverted and twisted the way of Love and compassion into profit and selfishness...

I am sick with sadness...

Peace
