Uh huh National Review is extreme. Tell us, genius , what is a "moderate" right wing source?

Dude, it was started by WF Buckley. Pretty damn conservative.

And your right! there aren't very many right wing moderate sites! Don't shoot yourself in the foot with these comments bro.

That's like some lefty pulling something from Moveon.org.

Here's a novel idea...

Quote AP, CNN, heck even fox news. REAL news outlets. Not rightie propaganda. That's my point.

Although your response is a bit humorous. Restated, you kinda said "Well duh! Where else do you expect me to get my rightwing propaganda and talking points from??!?!"

LOL

its interesting i just read another thread about how everyones fighting each other instead of intellectual debate and discussion, that the civil war is between people on the internet, and no one will win this war as it will be a ignorant stalemate

i havent read all of this thread, but from what i do see, theres a lot of back and forth personal nonsense

the thread, the topic, and the country would be much better off with intellectual debate and reasoning rather then just simple stereotyping and im right you're wrong speeches

CUE STANDARD MOD SPEECH

Hi People,

Okay - the last few pages have been thick with Off-Topic and often personal attacks and snidey side-jabs upon other posters.

Please - leave that kind of stuff for the sand-pit. Its not the type of discussion that you, nor this site, is capable of.

Focus on the POST not the POSTER please people.

Cheers,
ALIEN

It's almost funny that people want to find a reason to hate obama so much that they're even complaining when he tries to help kids! In every nation around the world through out modern history without fail every single leader has tried to get the kids learning, it's not just the elected ones either - Prince Charles for example runs the 'Princes Trust' where he actively engages with the youth helping them find themselves and excel in life (or whatever those geeks do with their backpacks) , Bush as someone pointed out himself was reading to school kids on the day of 911, Tony Blair and now Gordon Brown have been frequently interviewed on 'NewsRound' the childrens bbc news program plus he gave many 'asperational' statements to the youth in his speechs - I could go on, this is common in countries as far afield as Isreal, Jamaica and Austrailia... But no, obama does it and chaos breaks loose!

I'm a working class white guy, i can tell you for a fact that Racism is still very a popular mindset and it hides just slightly under the surface of many, many people - these silly old ideas and fears are hard to shake, sure the talkshow hosts and barhouse loudmouths know it's 'wrong' to dislike someone because of the color of their skin but honestly an awful lot of people find it hard to change their ways, if they even want to. Of course a large part of it is the fact he's a socialist, no where near enough of a socialist in my opinion but still by american standards he's pretty socialist. Some deep rooted fear of the Red menace, Black Tide and The fall of christendom (yes, everyone with half a brain can tell that Obama isn't #really# a Christian - he's far too smart to be anything other than an Athiest) tugs on an awful lot of subliminal thought processes, people are desperate to rationalize their fear and hatred so pick at any little thing he does.

It's a shame that people can't rationally focus their mental powers on dealing with the actual issues, the meat and potatos of WHAT he said - maybe some of what he said was wrong, then find out what and why and make him look silly... Maybe he hasn't thought through the logic of some of his statements, think them through then form a consize argument which will demonstrate clearly the error he has made then make it know....

Sometimes though i think most poeple are unable to do this, it's almost as if most people can only think or act when they've been told how too, it's almost as if 90% of the world is dyspraxic!

Thank you!! It's refreshing to read a post with down to earth reasoning and not infused with the same "indoctrinization" that people are so worried about.

I've been following this thread on and off since its inception and I think that a lot of people are missing the point or just refuse to see it. I think the majority of the people opposed to this particular message and accompanying lessons and assignments would not be opposed to a simple and general message to our children.

Obama is clearly a gifted speaker if given the proper script. Instead of trying to side step the parents, he could easily deliver a general message during primetime TV that welcomes kids to a new school year and encourages them to study, apply themselves, respect their teachers and set reasonable goals for themselves. Simple and short that is all he needs to say.

However, Obama chose a different path for a reason. For those who forgot, his GIVE Act or Serve America Act has passed and is ready to hit the streets.

Please keep this in mind

SEC. 6101. EFFECTIVE DATE. (a) In General- This Act, and the amendments made by this Act, take effect on October 1, 2009. (b) Regulations- Effective on the date of enactment of this Act, the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service may issue such regulations as may be necessary to carry out this Act and the amendments made by this Act.

www.govtrack.us...

That is October 1, 2009. Next month!! This Sept. 8 speech was supposed to serve as a soft intro to this new and massive program that will cost billions. Hence the orginal speech focus on serving the President and the country.

Kids in Pre K - 6 th grade don't need this type of message. What would a 5 year old possibly gain from his message?? Anyone....??

To put it simply, Obama is more concerned with advancing his own agenda than he is concerned with the well being of our children. He sees his agenda as the ONLY way to achieve his desired state of "Rebuilding Amerika"

If he was a man of honor and respect, he would scrap the whole message and deliver a basic motivating speech that he is capable of giving. Leave the hidden ideology and messages out of it.

You're hypothesizing what his speech is going to be about. Is it too much to save your assumptions until you've actually heard it? If, like you and others insist, it is filled with attempted brainwashing, I'll be the first to codemn it. Otherwise, I would hope this would subdue some of the blind hatred some have over anything O does. But realistically, we all know it won't.
