Palestinians living in Persian Gulf given 1 month to leave

UAE authorities in the Persian Gulf have ordered Palestinians living there to leave within a month, Al Quds al-Arabi reported Friday.

No reason was given in the report, but the London-based paper said that the order was given by senior officials.

Palestinian parliamentarian Atef Adwan told the paper that the plan was apparently to expel Palestinians, including those born in the area and who have lived there most of their lives.

This is interesting on several levels. First of all it's worth reminding ourselves that in July, Jordan announced that it was revoking citizenship of all of its Palestinians. There seems to be a common theme going on here that's worth further speculation.

Another article about this decision is on the Iranian news outlet, Press TV and on Haaretz.

It seems strange when just over a year ago the United Arab Emirates donated $9 million to the Palestinians.

There are currently around 100,000 Palestinians living in the UAE.

So what could the motivation be behind this move? Is this a move to put more pressure on Israel with yet another refugee crisis? Or have Palestinians been causing trouble for the Gulf monarchies which we haven't heard about?

Or could this be a pre-emptive move to stop further Palestinian refugees entering the UAE?

All very intriguing, and very tragic. And it strikes me as somewhat odd that given the amount of sympathy for the Palestinian cause in the West, this kind of thing does not get reported over here.

Stuff like this also highlights double standards - people who claim to care so much about Palestinians do not seem bothered one way or another about their fate unless Israel is involved.

These are dictators you are talking about, they just pretend to care for the Palestinians because all Muslims and Arabs care for them. Dictators got to keep their population happy too you know, by torture and stuff but in the end control is needed in all societies.

These dictators backed by the US don't give a damn about anything except the American interest, which is the soul policy they have, and that is the one thing that is keeping them in power. Other wise they would face the same destiny as Saddam. And no one wants that.

There seems to be a lot of animosity between Arabs and Palestinians.

Anyone remember George Galloway's peace bus to Gaza getting pelted with stones by Egyptians at the Phidelphi crossing?

Or the football stadium riots in Jordan?

No-one seems to want them. I'm not sure where it stems from. Would love to find out if anyone has any further info.

Palestinians are Arabs. The reality is that they are like the Gypsys of the middle eastern world. No one likes them, and no one wants them in their country. In 1947 when Israel was formed, Syria, Jordan and Egypt expelled these people in order to try to flood Israel with them. Then they were all driven out as a result of the first Arab-Israeli war.

These poor people have been used as a pawn in the greater geo-political struggle in the middle-east since the late forties. Even today, look at Gaza... if Egypt wanted to, they could open their boarder and invite the Palestinians - their fellow Arab Muslims - into Egypt. Egypt refuses to do so because they don't want them in their country.
