Hi there.

I've recently being sorting out some EDC and BOB things and finally got round to getting a multitool.

I was wondering, from a survival point of view, and just generally out of interest what multitools you guys use and why? (good points and bad).

I've looked at www.multitool.org and it's a really good site but doesn't have much survivalist opinions.

Hope to get everyone's opinions and maybe some show and tells...

My Multi-tools include:
A Shovel
Rope
Plastic Sheet
Bullets (Gun Powder)
A Walking Stick
Knife
Spoon
Screw Drivers (Both kinds)

All these items have multiple uses!
Edit: Why? Because a Survivalist needs to have an imagination.

Actually when it comes to scavenging from old cars or other items it will be a usefull tool if you don't have one.

Pretty negative views for survivalists.

Surprising.

ah come on i kidding.

those multi tools are much more handy than a standard, or even half decent penknife.

the pliers are especially useful.

you would probably want a largish sturdy knife, wich the blade metal runs the entire lenght of the handle also though, i wouldnt soley rely on on the ones from that

I've got a Leatherman Wave, and have used every single tool on that thing, from the two saw blades to the scissors to the file. It is very easy to use, very comfortable to hold, and the thing will take a beating.

Not sure if this is what you meant, but thought Id throw it out there.

Its funny that you should say that because les stroud swears by a multi tool and finds a use for one in almost every show.

How are we negative??
You asked and got our opinions...what EXACTLY were you looking for?
Its negative to have a negative attitude.
If we had a negative attitude then we would have said pffft and not have replied.
We gave you our honest answers...why is that bad?

Thats not true at all. Use your imagination. Breaking up ice chunks, impaling a fish, a climbing aid.....screw drivers are useful for a lot more than screwing things in....

I'm not sure if that was a rhetorical question but ill answer it anyway just in case.

He is the survivalist that actually survives on his own with no camera crew.

Les Stroud is "survivorman" - Coming from the UK it's only aired on cabe (not as you can really "air" something on cable).

He's a Canadian survivalist - does all the filming himself. Really good.

Like what Bear Grylls coul've been if he wasn't caught sleeping in hotels and pretending his show was real.

Thumbs up for Les Stroud

Who, obviously hould take leaf out of some of the members here...

He uses a multitool in every episode.

According to this lot he must have it wrong.

I think not!

If you've got nothing sensible to contribute just don't.

Simple as that.

A word to the wise (and also to you)...

Many things can be accomplished with a decent multitool, like anything else you might keep - maybe you are so perfect you don't need to keep any kit????

... Thought not.

Anyway...

If you've got anything sensible to say, contribute.

Otherwise go back to your sowing.

And what is more - I was just hoping to have some sensible thoughts on multitools - Not thoughts about NOT multitools! If you want a thread like that START YOUR OWN THREAD ABOUT NOT USING THEM!!!!

Sorry if I offended you, but look back at your post...

You didn't defend me at all.

I was just trying an interesting thread but get odd balls posing weird stuff about how NOT using a multitool is good.

Not really what I was asking about.

As far as your ignore button goes... click away!
