See ? we are not alone lol
This scenario seems to be legion, getting banned for having passionate opinions on issues different to the "majority".
In my case, there've been a couple (same for Pisky lol...poor guy, I go off on a serious rant about an issue and he sticks up for me, of course, and
gets banned too)
The first one was a small MSN community that had been formed originally from members who would meet in a reading chat room (way before msn started
charging for chat, greedy bastards).
Anyway, over the course of a couple years, alot of the old guard (IE oldbies) left and a newer contingent seemed to be emerging. An unwanted element
as far as Pisky and I were concerned because they seemed carved from the same PC mold and Pisky and I noticed that conversations started seeming to be
a bit less natural and spontaneous. It started not to be fun in other words.
One day I went on a rant on some thread (can't even remember the issue) about the indian casinos in our state and how I felt they were sucking
Oregonians dry. And Wham..immediately the PC brigade swarmed around me, flaming me saying I was racist, blah blah blah...I tried to get into an honest
discussion of what was racist and what was not, which they took as MORE racism, merely wanting to discuss it. And of course I took major offense at
being labeled a rascist and it just disintegrated from there. I was banned and then Pisky was too for sticking up for me and it was just real ugly.
What made it worse was the betrayal we felt. I mean, we had actually MET a couple of these people in person. And now they turn on us and toss us away
like garbage when we were part of the original membership. It just stunk.
The other group was more recent. Up to a few weeks before I really started posting seriously in ATS/BTS, I had belonged to what I thought was the
COOLEST site in the world. It's a website forum for those who work in customer service (of course I won't name it, but I can still bitch about it,
can't I ? lol). A place for us to vent about the stupid customers we deal with everyday.
Anyhoo...it was great, I posted a lot and everybody seemed to love my posts. Pisky was there too and occasionally posted a morsel from his tech
support days, but otherwise he was too addicted to ATS to pay much attention to anything else lol.
So I'm going along thinking everybody loves me and then one day somebody posts in the OT board a topic on stealing. Is it right or is it wrong and
can it ever be considered right under different circumstances.
Well, my stance differed from the majority in a BIG way. All I was seeing were pre-programmed posts saying how stealing was wrong NO MATTER WHAT..you
know the type. Sheep that were spouting pretty much what they'd been told what to think. No original thought whatsoever.
So after I posted my opinions. Basically that if my family was starving you could BET that I would steal to feed them. And that I didn't think petty
theft from a major corp was a big deal but I would never steal from the average joe on the street.
The sheep saw no difference between the two, which I couldn't believe and tried in vain to point out, but to no avail. I was flamed in a BIG way for
my views, which in turn pissed me off to the point where I basically called a few people pre-programmed sheep and I was banned for it.
The worst part is that after I was banned, I could go in and read but of course I couldn't post, so all I could do was read these asshats, some of
whom had liked me just fine before. These same people now taking potshots, saying I deserved to be banned, and even making fun of me with some
seriously immature juvenile comments.
There were some who stuck up for me too though, and this I will never forget. They even told the owner of the group that he was breaking his own rules
in joining in the derogatory comments and that he should just delete my posts rather then put his own smart-ass comments in. (AFter I was banned, in
the place where all my posts were, he erased them and put his own in, making it look like I wrote them when I didn't.)
I tell you though, karma is truly a bitch when she gets pissed off. Soon after, membership to this site started falling off. The place got hacked, it
was rebuilt. A lot of people rejoined, but I noticed several missing. Mostly the ones who thought the owners behaviour was disgusting. Hey, we reap
what we sow, yes ?
Reading these stories and considering my own, it is of my humble opinion that some people just should NOT own websites. Those with even the slightest
bent towards being power-crazed, and having grandiose ideas of playing God should just steer clear.
Whew !!!! This has been fun ! More stories, More !!!!!
