Stories, please !!!!

And I'm not talking, for obvious reasons, such as being a troll and purposely starting flame wars.

I'm talking for strictly unfair, unwarranted reasons. Such as speaking an opinion that majority disagreed with.

Show me yours and I'll show you mine ;-)

*As I understand it, we're not supposed to name other sites in derogatory fashion, but you can allude to it by describing the type of site it is, I'm sure that's ok (if it's not we'll know soon enough..heheheheee)

In a word............NO. This is my first community. I don't waste my time. Never been with a site that I wanted to spend time in, till now.

Yes, I love ATS/BTS too.

But believe it or not, Pisky and I HAVE been banned from groups before. And for speaking pretty much on the same issues we do here. We've never gone out as trolls trying to get banned or anything like that.

I guess that's a misconception I'm trying to get changed by shedding a little light on. That is that banned people aren't always these bad, shady, pain in the ass trouble causing types.

The truth is, sometimes we are simply passionate people speaking passionate thoughts on issues where the PC brigade just happens to be the majority in the given group, and they can't handle divergent views and so they ban people.

Oh no...I KNOW that, Trep..don't get the wrong idea, please ! I posted this as a compliment to this totally tripendicular site, I swear to Goddess. This is truly the best site I have ever belonged to.

This is why Pisky and I love it here and post as often as possible. Because there's a lot to read, and a lot of differing opinion and therefore, it's always interesting.

If anything I meant to show the contrast between this site and others !

Believe me, ATS has my heart and my total adoration too !

yeah i've been kicked off a board/left...once.

i have a SERIOUS issue when it comes to staff and how they act. i believe that staff regardless of the board and who owns it, they have a duty to follow the rules they enforce as well as enforce the rules equally.

the board i WAS on was rather hostile to this POV and members as well as its staff harassed me and flamed me for it. i was ridiculed and insulted. apparently these people, much like iraqis, had grown so use to the abuse that they didnt realize how badly they were being treated. they not only saw it as ok but came to expect it it seems. it was the members who were the worst to me. the staff basically made empty threats (after all being banned isnt exactly a life altering experience) and after awhile i said i had enough of the hypocricy, double standards, bullying, flaming, inconsistency, lack of ANY respect of any kind and i left.

there is no record of my being there and i'm happy to know that.

ATS is really the first site that has ever made want to join in. Tried another site but they didn't seem to interested in a newbee, so i figured like Groucho..I would never join a group that would have me as a member......No ..Wait ...I ..Mean....:bnghd:

I used to post on a paranormal board ( which i will not name here) in a very civilised manner, never personaly insulted anyone or started any fights. I just had different opinions on certain things then mods and admins, so did quite a few other members too. Some of the members were not quite pleased with my posts so they started throwing all kinds of insults on me, stuff like "shut up you 3rd world scum" and similar things. Admins and a few mods were very biased in this matter, and a lot of others, it was either you agree with them and all is good, or if you disagree everybody is allowed to insult you. One of the reasons the admin didnt do a thing is because I was a democrat and she a republican
Finaly the fight escalated to include other regular members, it all got really nasty and I left. Then a few other members left too. That board is pretty much dead now....
Thats what happens when admins and mods allow personal opinions to influence their "job".

I was banned from a prophecy board once. Still not sure why, when I wrote the webmaster and asked I got a really nasty nasty response too. Kind of shocked me how someone who claimed that they were so spiritual and open minded would act that way. Kind of saw how they were, so I went back to the site under another name on another computer, and posted thier e mail for everyone to read. LOL

Was the only time I have ever been banned from anything.

See ? we are not alone lol

This scenario seems to be legion, getting banned for having passionate opinions on issues different to the "majority".

In my case, there've been a couple (same for Pisky lol...poor guy, I go off on a serious rant about an issue and he sticks up for me, of course, and gets banned too)

The first one was a small MSN community that had been formed originally from members who would meet in a reading chat room (way before msn started charging for chat, greedy bastards).

Anyway, over the course of a couple years, alot of the old guard (IE oldbies) left and a newer contingent seemed to be emerging. An unwanted element as far as Pisky and I were concerned because they seemed carved from the same PC mold and Pisky and I noticed that conversations started seeming to be a bit less natural and spontaneous. It started not to be fun in other words.

One day I went on a rant on some thread (can't even remember the issue) about the indian casinos in our state and how I felt they were sucking Oregonians dry. And Wham..immediately the PC brigade swarmed around me, flaming me saying I was racist, blah blah blah...I tried to get into an honest discussion of what was racist and what was not, which they took as MORE racism, merely wanting to discuss it. And of course I took major offense at being labeled a rascist and it just disintegrated from there. I was banned and then Pisky was too for sticking up for me and it was just real ugly.

What made it worse was the betrayal we felt. I mean, we had actually MET a couple of these people in person. And now they turn on us and toss us away like garbage when we were part of the original membership. It just stunk.

The other group was more recent. Up to a few weeks before I really started posting seriously in ATS/BTS, I had belonged to what I thought was the COOLEST site in the world. It's a website forum for those who work in customer service (of course I won't name it, but I can still bitch about it, can't I ? lol). A place for us to vent about the stupid customers we deal with everyday.

Anyhoo...it was great, I posted a lot and everybody seemed to love my posts. Pisky was there too and occasionally posted a morsel from his tech support days, but otherwise he was too addicted to ATS to pay much attention to anything else lol.

So I'm going along thinking everybody loves me and then one day somebody posts in the OT board a topic on stealing. Is it right or is it wrong and can it ever be considered right under different circumstances.

Well, my stance differed from the majority in a BIG way. All I was seeing were pre-programmed posts saying how stealing was wrong NO MATTER WHAT..you know the type. Sheep that were spouting pretty much what they'd been told what to think. No original thought whatsoever.

So after I posted my opinions. Basically that if my family was starving you could BET that I would steal to feed them. And that I didn't think petty theft from a major corp was a big deal but I would never steal from the average joe on the street.

The sheep saw no difference between the two, which I couldn't believe and tried in vain to point out, but to no avail. I was flamed in a BIG way for my views, which in turn pissed me off to the point where I basically called a few people pre-programmed sheep and I was banned for it.

The worst part is that after I was banned, I could go in and read but of course I couldn't post, so all I could do was read these asshats, some of whom had liked me just fine before. These same people now taking potshots, saying I deserved to be banned, and even making fun of me with some seriously immature juvenile comments.

There were some who stuck up for me too though, and this I will never forget. They even told the owner of the group that he was breaking his own rules in joining in the derogatory comments and that he should just delete my posts rather then put his own smart-ass comments in. (AFter I was banned, in the place where all my posts were, he erased them and put his own in, making it look like I wrote them when I didn't.)

I tell you though, karma is truly a bitch when she gets pissed off. Soon after, membership to this site started falling off. The place got hacked, it was rebuilt. A lot of people rejoined, but I noticed several missing. Mostly the ones who thought the owners behaviour was disgusting. Hey, we reap what we sow, yes ?

Reading these stories and considering my own, it is of my humble opinion that some people just should NOT own websites. Those with even the slightest bent towards being power-crazed, and having grandiose ideas of playing God should just steer clear.

Whew !!!! This has been fun ! More stories, More !!!!!

I got booted from the same place KayEm was banned from.

KayEm was having a discussion about casinos in Oregon which some gob#e took the wrong way, resulting in KayEm's banning. Meanwhile, at the same time as defending KayEm against their attacks, I added something on another thread about Bush's 'War on Terror'. Some PC sheep got offended at the fact that I didn't instantly leap onto the 'bomb everywhere' bandwagon after 911. I suggested that the true terrorists be hunted down rather than destroying a whole country, as that would make us as bad as them.

I was accused of propagating Anti-American sentiment and banned.

Then I was in another site taking the piss out of MSN (which was being upgraded for the N'th time, with subsequent bugs). I was chastised for daring to do this, and replied with a pic of Herr Flick (from Allo Allo) sitting at his desk with a portrait of Bill Gates as Hitler on the wall. Instant banning. I laughed like a Pisky.

I was a member of an MSN site a few years ago which seemed to have done a mass-banning. One day I found that I had been banned without notice, and couldn't guess what I could have done to deserve that. so I emailed a few other members and found that they had had the same thing done to them. Later one of them told me that something had happened, the manager had gone into some hitleresque power trip and banned virtually everyone apart from a few 'chosen ones'
.
I think the site went down not long after and disappeared from the public boards.

only have had the pleasure of temp bans, and that was on VN boards, I was banned for standing up for myself.

had like 20, 48 hour bans from there hehe.

I've have had a posting ban on ATS before and like a total ban I guess (couldnt view any page at the time) for being over at TSC, but thats all water under the bridge and don't matter, really.
I laugh about it now.

LOL!
I have seen that happen before, quite a few "spiritual" sites and chat/boards do that. Almost like they are recruting for a cult of are "wannabe" cult leaders...LOL
Yup yup...I've seen it!
Usually before something like that would happen I would leave beforehand cause you could sort of tell it was coming after a few days of listening very carefully to someones "truth".
Almost reminds me of a bunch of mini heavens gates running around the net.

I left a gaming board that has a comic strip featured in a prominent Sony Playstation magazine. Take a random guess where that was.

Really the site shouldnt have had a message board because the staff was too small and way to lazy. Add on that they totally bought into their comic characteristics they seemed almost comical and detached. I left because it really was board populated by a select 50 who received respect and everyone else was a wretched noob. I left message boards after that for a long time until I found this place.
