UN: IDF did not shell UNRWA school

AA clerical error led the UN to falsely accuse Israel of shelling one of its Gaza schools in the Jabalya refugee camp during Operation Cast Lead, the international organization admitted this week.

The strike made international headlines and was one of the many incidents of civilian deaths that led nongovernmental organization and international politicians to call for Israelis to be charged with war crimes for the 22-day military offensive.

Israel in turn initially said that it shelled the school only after it had been fired on by Hamas gunmen hiding in the compound and then, upon reexamination, shifted to say that an errant shell had hit the school.

At the time UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called the IDF attack "outrageous" and demanded an investigation.

But on Tuesday, the UN's Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) slipped a "clarification" notice on the head of its weekly field report from Gaza.

It noted that its January 6 field report had stated that an IDF shell hit outside the school, causing fatalities. Its January 7 field report, however, stated that the shell hit the school.

"The humanitarian coordinator would like to clarify that the shelling, and all of the fatalities, took place outside rather than inside the school," the original field report stated.

U.N. Agency That Runs School Hit in Gaza Employed Hamas and Islamic Jihad Members

The United Nations agency that administers a school in Gaza where dozens of civilians were killed by Israeli mortar fire last week has admitted to employing terrorists to work at its Palestinian schools in the past, has no system in place to keep members of Hamas or Islamic Jihad off its payroll, and provides textbooks to children that contain hate speech and other incendiary information.

A growing chorus of critics has taken aim at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in recent years, although momentum on Capitol Hill has been slow. But last week's incident, which Israel maintains was prompted by Hamas operatives firing mortars at Israelis from a location near the school, has prompted some lawmakers to scrutinize the U.N. agency.

Rep. Steve Rothman, D-N.J., introduced a resolution in the fall calling for greater transparency and accountability at UNRWA. The bill called on the agency to make its textbooks available on the Internet for public inspection and to implement "terrorist name recognition software and other screening procedures that would help to ensure that UNRWA staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries are neither terrorists themselves, nor affiliated with known terrorist organizations."

Rothman said he plans to re-introduce his UNRWA resolution in the coming weeks because, "as timely as this bill was before, it is even more timely now. It is urgent that Congress can be assured that U.S. taxpayer money is not being spent to support Hamas and its murderous activities."

Great another thread for the pro-Zionist to display their appalling and atrocious lack of respect for human life as they gloat over the fact that the innocent children murdered won’t be growing up to hold them accountable for stealing their people’s land and murdering it’s denizens.

It’s all the Palestinians fault you see for being born there! It’s all the Palestinians fault for not wanting to live in the most densely populated prison in the world ringed by automated unmanned computerized concreted machine gun towers.

It’s all the Palestinians fault for still being foolish enough to try to desperately hold on to some farms and groves so that they have more economic opportunities to look forward to than less than minimum wage menial service jobs offered to them by the Israelis where they are treated as second class human beings not even citizens.

Everything is the Palestinians fault don’t you see. Just because Israelis run the American pornographic and adult book store business, drug paraphernalia business, traffic in narcotics, arms, and illegal organs, and most Israeli Presidents and Prime Ministers end up arrested or indicted for embezzlement and fraud really has nothing to do with the fact THAT ISRAELIS NEVER DO ANYTHING BAD. Only Palestinians do, and well if the Palestinians don’t want to live like slaves, and have their land, possessions, dignity, and lives stolen and their little children get horribly murdered as a result, well it really is the Palestinians fault don’t you see?

I don’t see it, but wow it sure felt awesome in a genocidal way to pretend to be a Zionist for a minute!

I feel so dirty now!

Where are you getting all of these manufactured stories from James?

Who am I going to trust, the unbiased UN who looks out for human life, not property rights, or Fox News and Jpost, two of the most biased news sources out there.

Beit Lahia Families Seak Safety In UNRWA Schools

BEIT LAHIA - After Israeli ground invasion of Gaza Strip, Palestinian families in Beit Lahia has found safety in UNRWA schools. More than 50 people including 17 children have been killed by Israeli air strikes and artillery fire in less than three days in the Beit Lahia area. The people in this northern town and the surrounding area, have no food or water left, and only access to electric power during 1.5 of 24 hours.

Local Mosques, public and governmental buildings (including schools) pharmacists, hospitals, homes, markets, farmland, police cars, ambulances and private cars has been targeted, bombed and destroyed by the Zionists. The Palestinian resistance, Good Bless them, held the northern frontier of Gaza Strip, stationed in and around of Beit Lahia, where the resistance is strong, defending courageously the little town in spite of heavy Israeli bombardments.

Three young men from Beit Lahia were killed in an Israeli airstrike last night in an attack on the "Asma Elementary School" in Gaza City, the school was clearly marked as a United Nations installation. Rawhi Jamal Ramadan Al Sultan 25,Hussein Mahmoud Abed Al Malek A l Sultan 24, and Abed Samir Ali Al Sultan 19, all died in the attack.. Earlier in the evening they were among over four hundred people, who had fled their homes in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza , to find shelter in the UNRWA school.
.

This from Palestine Free Voice says only three people died in this event ages 25,24 and 19. So much for there being small children killed. Although they could have still been injured.

Yeah looks like something launched from behind the building there. My opinion these are pictures in Palestine , being touted as something Israel has done. Propaganda.

This is an attack on the UNRWA school as the Israeli troops moved into that part of the city (17 Jan 2009). If you do the research, you can track the date of those photos to the date of the movement of the troops invasion into that part of the city.

Consider how many months have gone by since the event, I'm surprised you would try to make it out to be propaganda after they have already shown the daily events in detail.

IDF didn't deny their attack on this school, which sheltered many people since their homes were destroyed. This is one they finally admitted their attack upon.

aftermath of an Israeli strike on a UN school, designated as a shelter, in Beit Lahiya

So those that claim pally-wood, you just only made yourself look bad.

Here is photos from Global Research... definitely not pally-wood!

Updated Large Photo Gallery

Here are the photo reports from the U.N.:

GAZA CRISIS - PHOTO GALLERY JANUARY 2009

Of course, IDF couldn't deny tank fire when Hamas doesn't have any tank. They also didn't deny they, the IDF, hit the UN center earlier:

IDF admits to attacks, yet denies it being a war crime

Human Rights Watch started the investigation, which then was turned over the the U.N. and other independent investigators. IDF then released a report (April 22) based on their earlier claim of munitions found in the facilities as a reason why they fired:

On April 22, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released the results of its internal investigations into its behavior during the recent fighting, concluding that it "operated in accordance with international law" throughout the fighting and that "a very small number" of "unavoidable" incidents occurred due to "intelligence or operational errors."

After the investigation, the IDF was unable to defend its claims of why they fired on the school, as no munitions were found in the schools and UN facilities:

UN Report summary: IDF Firing of White Phosphorus at UN Compound was “grossly negligent, amounting to recklessness”

A) this isn't recent, its from the offensive in Gaza in the beginning of the year.

B) Israel isn't interest in grabing that land. Its Gaza, Israel left Gaza under Sharon, they have no intention of taking that land. They just want Hamas to stop firing rockets at Israeli civilians, INCLUDING CHILDREN!!!!!
