Blahblahblah, everything Obama does is evil, blahblahblah, we need to be cavemen with automatic weapons, there is no need for government or law or anything silly like that, blahblahblah, Obama can't take a crap without everyone twisting it into something evil and wicked.

Gets very tiring honestly.

What does any of that have to do with what we are talking about here? Please go try to derail a thread some ware ells if you don't like the topic or how the thread is going you can always go to another one.

I would leave it to the parents to get involved here the teachers should send home a synopsis of what the man will talk about. That way parents can discuss it ahead of time with there kids.

I think it's disgraceful and undermines the possibility of the USA and the spirit of the country.

Maybe after another year a judgement can be made..

Just more proof of how much the educational system is in total control by the democrats, and how abysmal the public education system is.

Of course it's too late to reform...as we are already near 3rd world status. I will say, if you look at other Western Countries and most of the developed Asian countries, all of their programs emphasize math, science and languages early and often in a student's career, while hear in America, our kids learn about how Johnny has 2 mommies/2 daddies, and how to put condoms on by the 5th grade.

I totally agree, every developed country is based on highly skilled workforce and added value industries - meaning complex manufacturing.Germany, Japan, Switzerland.etc. and to create such industries one must have competetive background of education in techical sciences. Times when you think US can export britney spears and get in return Fanuc industrial robot- is simply gone. In return you get sometihng equal- Tamagochi or Pikachu.
)))) A fair deal would be one Toyota Corolla versus 50tons of Wrigley`s or Gillette shaving foam.Only I forgot that shaving foam doesn`t require actual highly paid engineers.

For the record: i never got what bush was supposed to do either (and i did ask, the answer usually being "something")

But another question: are american kids still supposed to pray to a rag in a corner every morning?

It depends on who the person is. If he deserves my trust, I will support him. If he's a lying, slimy warmonger, REGARDLESS of the letter behind his name, I will not trust his intentions.

As of this time, I trust Obama's intentions.

The person in question is a lying, slimy warmonger. He has control of the media. Where is the outcry against what he is doing in Afghanistan? You may not know but he definitely knows that 911 was an inside job. His reason for expanding the war into Afghanistan is an oil pipeline for his Rockefeller puppet masters. The people in Afghanistan did not cause 911, the Rockefellers did. We are fighting in Afghanistan because of 911 because the perpetuaters of 911 want us to consolidate their empire and build them a pipeline for their oil that their US army directed by their CIA will procure for them laying down the lives of their soldiers, your children, and by killing thousands, if not millions of innocent men women and children.

I think it is premature to judge this...we haven't even heard what the man is going to say yet! I am no fan of Obama at all but like it or not the man has a great influence on kids. My grandson is just 4 and whenever he sees this guy on TV he yells Obama like it is Spiderman or something.

Given the graduation rate in our city schools here is just about 50% I can only hope he says something to inspire these kids to pay attention to school instead of stupid Lil Wayne!

That being said...if it is a plug for his MANDATORY VOLUNTEERING, it will be a totally different matter. I do agree that this speech would have been better received if he had done this the night before school so parents could pick out talking points instead of a teacher! Lets not forget here people that the UNIONS are huge, the teachers unions are among the most ardent supporters of Nobama.

Strange days indeed!

Indeed. Having just perused HR1388 and not finding the word 'mandatory' anywhere in there, that at least sounds like another case of Obama doing something and somebody making up something about it out of whole cloth then attacking him for it.

Which puts it into the same camp as "Death Panels", "Mandatory abortions" and sex change operations. In other words, aint no such thing.

It would be so much more interesting if people attacked him for stuff he is actually planning to do...

Indoctrination???....sounds like a precursor to BRAINWASHING!

We all know the Teachers in this Country are for the most part are Lefty Liberals and always have been. They wouldn't care if Charlie Brown was on the Ticket they're still going to support him or her.

My question is...is Obama going to tell these kids to "Needle Up" with H1Ni Flu Vaccine???

What I want to see is ALL of our Elected Officials and Bureaucrats "Needle Up" with this H1N1 Flu Vaccine by a Verifiable Independent Agency and that includes Obama and his Family and last but not least Janet Neopolatanobutt.

No, the parents are not providing their children with the necessary learning experience that they need while is lacking in the schools that most parents trust is teaching their children.

That is a big mistake, I as a parent and a former teacher knew the lacking in the curriculum and did my best to supplement learning for my kids at home.

But we have to remember that is tax payer dollars paying for public school so we should expect the best for our dollars.

That is not so, regretfully schools in the US don't even rank top when it comes with other developing countries.

That is not the fault of the parent but the system that is currently driving the way our schools work in the US.

Yes is always parents that don't do the job of enforcing what ever poor quality of education children are receiving because most of them had that same poor quality of education themselves.

Came on to start this very same thread and as I can see it is moving in the same course as I would have attempted to steer this ship.

What a travesty of human direction this one takes us.

German Nazi style Hitler Youth groups here we come.

It is not the responsibility of the Government to take these steps without the full consent of the parents who pay the taxes to keep the schools open and afford all of the supplies which is very costly to most.

Indoctrination to the USSA.

It is very difficult to find the original transcripts of what Obama said, so this is the best I can do.

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Ya see, we are not just making this #e up!! You should really take a good hard look at what this is saying.

I wish you the best,

I actually think it's great that the President is reaching out to kids and asking them to get involved.

Wow, who woulda thunk it?

I think it's about time kids start learning about their government and getting involved in their own futures instead of having their heads totally focused on the latest video game.

Umm...that's why we have teachers in our classrooms. We don't want or need a socialist whose goal it is to undermine our values trying to indoctrinate our children.

Maybe they'll spend some time volunteering at the local retirement home for a couple hours a week instead of playing video games. I support this 100%.

Ahh, so that's what this is about? Indoctrination into Obama's Youth Corps?

I wouldn't be putting my child's education in the hands of the US school system.

....but you are willing, and think it's 'a great idea', to put it in the hands of the US gov't?

Makes no sense at all. Oh wait - Obama is the gov't. Now it makes perfect sense.

So why not have the assignment be about how to make the country better or what a child could do to make their community, country a better place? No reason to make this about the pres especially one that wants you to tattle on your neighbors, friends and family.

I spit on him.

My 8 year old sees him and calls him a theif, a criminal. I make sure that my children see both sides of the coin and there is nothing but socialism any way you flip it. He was too young to begin to explain why 9/11 happened and who was involved (still too young at 8) but I give my son credit for knowing right from wrong. This trait is something that comes from his parents teaching him instead of letting TV, video games and others teach him.

If BHO does anything positive, it will be that he drives parents to be more involved in the lives of their children to prevent wackjobs from brainwashing them. There is of course no hope for those sheeple still trying to scrap off the "Yes We Can" sticker from their bumper. Yes, that was me cutting you off for having that on your car.
Keep scraping jokers but the feeling of being dirty for falling for his lies when those around you told you not to won't come off so cleanly.

People are doomed if they don't know what's behind the workings of those in office. I see a disturbing parallel between today and the first rebellious ruler, Nimrod. A long time ago Josephus wrote of Nimrod:

He (Nimrod) persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it were through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny-seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence upon his own power.

Why all the high praise to people in office? Are they trying to propogate the very thing Nimrod had to do in order to maintain power? People being dependent on government? Sounds like it to me. I see coming down the pike trying to usurp parental authority.

this thread is filled with really paranoid people, especially the people attacking BH.

seriously, a disinfo agent? sounds more like somebody's parent.

as it turns out, obama probably has better things to do than try to manipulate students. they're just going to ask him questions! they're not going to be put in some kind of death work camp (republican/conservative tall tales! the gov't doesn't have the money or the will power to do even half the crap they accuse obama of)

also, absolutely anyone who thinks OBAMA is comparable to Hitler doesn't know anything about politics and is just reiterating some crap they heard elsewhere. Read about Nazi Germany, go outside, think about it, then shut up.

I don't like the Idea of a President giving a speach to my elementary school age children.
High school maybe, where they have more of their Own thoughts and ideas.

One of the BIG problems I have, is the fact that the instruction for the Teachers is to ask the children Why is it important to listen to the President and other elected officals, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor?

BUT NOT AND Why is it important for the Government Officals to listen to the PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What I see is an attempt by this Administration to indoctrinate our Children.

I have a different memory from you. When I was growing up every president addressed the students of America at least once. I especially remember Kennedy and his physical fitness program in the schools.

I also go back Past Kennedy( Loved Him) But I do Not Ever remember him or any other president giving a speach to elementary school children.
