Not sure how many of you actually red the articles - the debate between right and left is relevant, but distracting. The point raised regarding the origins and traditions of Republican / Democratic relative to their current positions is the most pertinent.

Firstly the Republican party was hijacked almost 30 years ago by conservative Christians, and this was then augmented with disaffected extremist democrats who came to be known as Neo-Cons (yes they were originally liberals). You now have a strange blend.

Returning to the original purpose of the video and the Original Thesis - the use of the word motivational is not at all emotional - those who are confusing it have not read the articles. Rather the assumptions which are made by Republicans are not made from a logical assessment of the facts, rather conclusions are drawn which confirm pre-existing assumptions, conflicting facts are merely dismissed. Hence when Republicans are presented with the fact that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 they simply dismiss it as false, one can even point to the fact that Bush and Cheney admit to it, and conservatives will call it lies as it does not fit in with their world view - motivated reasoning.

Then there is inferred logic, whereby one assumes that because US is a good - they would only ever invade a country which is evil to do good things for that country.

On the issue of health care - conservatives and republicans are not looking at the facts (thats why there are so many ridiculous claims of nazism and death panels) rather they are motivated by a world view of anti-socialism and pro-Americanism - WHATEVER THAT REALLY IS !

Its obvious - and completely true - Im an impartial observer, the best qualified to deliver and objective opinion - and conservative reaction, evidenced by their campaign - is clearly motivated reasoning and inferred logic.

Cheers.

Interesting because the exact opposite is the case. There is not one liberal position that isn't based on irrational feelings with no basis in fact. All of their agenda is based on 'charity' to the poor.

Their arguments usually revolve around how cruel conservatives are, and how 'caring' they are and thus they are demagogues, twisting the emotions of caring and fair play to push their evil agenda.

Yes their agenda is pure evil. Their concept of charity is about control and theft. They steal from the average person and give it to their constituents, the oppressed peoples du jour. The 'oppressed' are defined as any useful pressure group they can leverage for votes such as a minority, illegal alien, or the poor.

It never occurs to a liberal to personally transfer his feelings of justice into actually using his own funds to help the downtrodden. Liberals give to charity far less than conservatives. In fact by stealing from the masses and giving to the undeserving the liberals reduce the amount of aid that can be contributed to real effective charities. Charities for example that flooded New Orleans with aid, while FEMA was sitting on their arses, trying to stop that aid from getting in. Yet the liberal somehow thinks he is doing good by helping the government steal more from helpless taxpayers.

I have nothing but contempt for liberals. They are moral infants, and pretend do-gooders. Their warped and carefully inculcated sense of justice, slaughters infants in the womb, allows no dissent in the public arena and shouts down any expression of faith. One day there will be no liberals at all in the land. The sad part about that, is that it will only serve to increase the ravenous hunger of hells maw.

People with strong ideologies don't use logic in making political decisions in general.

When you make a political ideology a part of your identity, you make decisions based on what the ideology tells you you ought to think, not what makes logical sense.

It's true of all ideologies (self-reinforcing belief systems) certainly not just conservatives, as much as I find myself arguing with self identified conservatives. Self identified liberals, communists, anarcho-capitalists - whatever.

They are all just different sets of blinders to choose from, and people choose the one that best serves their emotional needs.

I believe the old adage:
If you don't have liberal ideals in your youth----to change the world for the better--you are heartless.
If you don't become conservative in your later years----fighting to keep all those liberal ideals you fought for---- you are brainless.

More and more I seem to find this true in at least some measure and as a generalization.

Though, some of us never grow up, and some are old before our time.
