Recent rulings by Colorado's Supreme Court – considered by some as the "most partisan in the nation" – have demonstrated their contempt for the Constitution. Four justices – Michael Bender, Alex Martinez, Nancy Rice, and Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey – have recently taxed cars, background checks on guns and every firearm sale, and tobacco. While I am not and never have been a smoker, these creeping Colorado taxes may find their way into other currently exempt areas including services (like dry cleaning, car maintenace, carpet shampooing or hair stylists), groceries, internet access, gasoline and residential heating fuel. Combine these hits with all of the tax increases Pres. Obama is mulling, we'll barely have money to mail him our yearly tax returns.
Matt Arnold has a simple, practical solution for this out-of-control court: Clear The Bench Colorado! If these judges are permitted to split hairs on fees vs. taxes, you can bet other states will take notice and follow suit.
