Food - Dried, several pounds of each - jerky, nuts, rice, dried fruit, granola, tea (MRE's are too bulky)
The body uses 60 calories of sugar fast and after 3 to 4 hours your blood sugar levels will drop.
60 calories of Fat will give you the same energy but last for 8 to 12 hours
MREs are about 35 to 40% fat calories. they are made for troops that need a high energy output food.
I have heard this before, and I think one argument kinda puts
this in an odd perspective.
I have seen a plow horse pull a plow all day on a low fat diet.
I have seen a moose fight off a pack of wolves trying to get at its young.
There are vegetarian martial artists that will mop the mat with your
fat food for survival folks.
Fat is cheap, and it is dense, other than that it is not that great.
Fat is a cheaper way to feed the military man, not a better way.
Cheaper to ship cause it is dense and costs less, it is not healthy.
There are parrots that outlive humans that eat zero fat.
There are elephants and hippos the size of a tank.
So for me the only reason to carry fat based foods would be
for more calories in a smaller space and less weight.
I think I will chose to just use a wild edible plants guide, a small
fishing kit, some snare wire, some traps, and if I forget how to
use all the prior methods my rifle.
