UAE reports ship seizure with NKorea arms for Iran

news.yahoo.com

The United Arab Emirates has seized a cargo ship earlier this month bound for Iran with a cache of banned arms from North Korea, the first such seizure since sanctions against North Korea were ramped up, diplomats and officials told The Associated Press on Friday.

The article states

Diplomats identified the vessel as a Bahamas-flagged cargo vessel, the ANL Australia, carrying rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons. The diplomats and officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity

I wonder what the "other weapons" were. So I guess this goes to show that North Korea and Iran don't really care about UN sanctions. The question is what will the UN do now, further sanctions? Or action?

This is the ANL Australia

IMO Number: 8913681
Country: Bahamas
MMSI Number: 311451000
Length: 233.0m
Callsign: C6SS3
Beam: 32.0m

Wonder what the USA promised the United Emirates? The cargo?

It was the UN that placed the sanctions, of course the US is a part, but I doubt the US alone promised anything to the UAE.

Hey MysterE

And to think... Clinton did such a good job not too long ago fixing relations with N. Korea.

Looks like image of a N. Korea willing to cooperate now is being shot to hell...

Hey Sliadon, this ship was seized two weeks ago, the news is just breaking now. So around the same time Clinton was in NKorea, they were sending munitions to Iran!

That makes Clinton's visit and Kim's warm welcome that much more suspicious.

The question this raises is why would the UN sit on such a volatile topic for 2 weeks before coming clean about it?

Seems like some people needed time to straighten out their alibi...

I know its late here and I should be asleep but...

Looks like a possible related story...

VIENNA – Iran is stonewalling the U.N. nuclear watchdog on "possible military dimensions" to its suspect nuclear program, officials said Friday, urging the regime to clarify the mysterious role of a foreign explosives expert and shed light on other issues.

news.yahoo.com...

Going out on a limb here but wasn't that boat carrying arms?
--Oh wait? It was?--
Wouldn't there be a chance that someone on that boat might be an expert in using those arms?
--My God Sliadon! You may be on to something!--

It truly would be a shame to see it all go to hell when ya think its getting better.

:/

That may have something to do with it. And of course Iran is denying it...
From this article

Reports about the seizure of a ship in the UAE have been fabricated by Zionist media outlets in an attempt to influence the outcome of the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency

From this article

What is not so clear…and this is where the Administration comes in…is that this seizure came on 15 August…and just a few days ago, Governor Richardson of New Mexico played host to North Korean diplomats here in the US as part of the Obama effort to establish better relations with North Korea.
Surely, the Administration would have known about this breach of UN sanctions imposed on both North Korea and Iran before Richardson hosted his guests. Might have even made it into the Presidential Daily Brief [PDB] for 16 August, if the Intelligence Community was doing its job.

So Bill Richardson was entertaining NKorean diplomats well AFTER we knew they had dileberatly disobeyed UN sanctions! Such pitiful foreign policy.
