If Kennedy did not have express permission (ie he was ASKED) then he was breaking the law.

The Logan Act has remained almost unchanged.....

The act is short and reads as follows:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects. The language of the act appears to encompass almost every communication between a U.S. citizen and a foreign government considered an attempt to influence negotiations between their two countries"

....One example of the act's use as a threat of prosecution involved the Reverend JESSE JACKSON. In 1984 Jackson took well-publicized trips to Cuba and Nicaragua and returned with several Cuban political prisoners seeking ASYLUM in the United States. President RONALD REAGAN stated that Jackson's activities may have violated the law

John Kerry did it in Paris with the North Vietnamese government, and Ted Kennedy did it in Moscow with the Russian Soviet government.

I think most people know that after what is currently transpiring in Washington that the Democrats would gladly sell the U.S. and the principles it was founded on down the river to the highest bidder if it'd get them one more iota of power over the American populace.

As a good example of a current political family, take a close look at the Clintons' Red Chinese Army connections, and how they helped the Clintons in their political aspirations.

I think you've completely missed the point by a country mile.
From what you posted, it would seem Ted Kennedy was interested in disarmament.

Further more, what makes you think the USA didn't want to attack the USSR? God, it's the year 2009 pal, get with it. Your not inundated with propaganda about the evil commie Ruskies anymore.

No, I am very certain you were the one who missed the point.
Kennedy was working with our ENEMY, giving them tools, and propaganda to disuade our side towards disarmament. The Russians are never going to disarm, and this comes directly from high ranking former Russian miltiary defectors.

This is worse than what Jane Fonda did when she was cheering for the Communist side of Vietnam, and cheering the Vietcom to keep fighting our young American patriots who were fighting there.

No the point was that Kennedy took it upon himself to do it. Negotiations are the reason we have diplomats! During the cold war a American senator goes to a Soviet official for aid in his presidential bid? Are you daft??? That is not in the best interest of a country, but in the best interest of said senator! The Kennedy family was not the saints that people like to think they were. JFK was reported to have had an affair with a East German spy. His brother went to Hoover of the FBI and for considerable concessions kept it quiet. The myth of the Kennedy's does not hold up to the light of truth!
