I was just browsing the site when I got redirected. This popped up. Then it showed where (my?) files were being downloaded. Is this from ats?

Were you logged in at the time? Did you have any other browser windows open, i.e. fom other sites?

I am using Firefox browser and I had two tabs open. No other browser open though. It redirected from the ats page that I was browsing. I clicked on a thread and it popped up.

Yes, I was logged in at the time.

its called a browser hijack. quite common, can be a prick to remove. get on a clean machine and go to majorgeeks (google it)

search for hijack this and post the log on their forum.

alternatively you can google the fake antivirus name from the screen capture and look for software to remove it.

OR take it to a trusted computer shop/techguy for removal.

sometimes a browser hijack requires a reformat of your computer. sometimes its easy to remove. i hope u have the latter!!

As okamitengu said - the problem may be local to your machine.

I'd suggest running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and/or Spybot Search and Destroy.

If you can remember which thread you were on when this happened we could double check our side - but I have to add - this is very unlikely a problem on our side (though not "impossible").

Actually, I believe it is an ad. When I first joined ATS I had a similar pop-up come about on my screen. I accidentally clicked OK thinking it was part of my computer, and it brought up a "fake" computer scan page.

The only time this ever occurred was when I had visited ATS, and my computer is virus/malware/worm free.

Yeah I had 7 ATS tabs up and it kept popping up and taking over my page. I thought it was funny it said it was scanning my PC and mentioned windows when I have an APPLE! I had those pop up ads. They are annoying! I had to shut down firefox and use Safari for a bit. Firefox is annoying but I prefer it over Safari.

I got it also SMART VIRUS ELIMINATOR haven't figured how to rid it yet. Almost every time i go to a new page it pops up 2 days now. Very annoying.Help!!It does the scan then links you to a page to pay 2 options to clean it up It also reset the google search to gala search if that helps. Then I found a SPYWARE DOCTOR program to fix it and they wanted money also after they ran a scan. Sounds like a scam to me.Still confused how these sites can just overrun your computer. Peace.

You guys will have to be a bit more specific if you want us to check into it. Ad links, open threads, ad names, anything that can point us in the right direction.

I have gotten those. Gives you a WTF moment at first. It redirects you to an anti virus site.

I didn't consider a hijacker. I forgot about those. Got one once and it was a porn screen. YIKES

Thanks for the info.

I've got bad news for you. If you clicked on it, you are already infected and if you have run legitimate cleaning tools and it is still happening you are going to have to format and reload your computer.

malwarebytes anti malware is the best one i used. "mbam"

i couldnt remember the name.

some of the hijacks are actually from ads on normal pages. your on you fave page, its ad rotation hits an infected link, your pc loads the ad... presto, infection.

did alot of damage to alot of customers computers back at the shop i used to be a tech for.

so many machines... formatted
