Files prove Pentagon is profiling reporters

www.stripes.com

Contrary to the insistence of Pentagon officials this week that they are not rating the work of reporters covering U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Stars and Stripes has obtained documents that prove that reporters’ coverage is being graded as “positive,” “neutral” or “negative.”

Moreover, the documents — recent confidential profiles of the work of individual reporters prepared by a Pentagon contractor — indicate that the ratings are intended to manipulate the stories that reporters produce.

Surprise, surprise!

Who else, you have to ask, are they "profiling?"

Several professional journalists’ groups as well as media ethicists criticized the Pentagon’s attempts to rate and manipulate reporters. And at least one military official with knowledge of the profiling system has also begun to raise objections.

They gotta spin it. They can't have everyone actually KNOWING what's going on. The reporters need to be good little players. Thanks for keeping us posted on this one.

Since this is "Obama's Vietnam," they've got to control the information making its way back to the States.

Its probably not just reporters, chances are Bloggers, Radio hosts and Youtube video creators are just some of the vast number of people being "profiled" on a regular basis.

Oh that is apart from the millions of people profiling themselves on social networking sites.

this is outrageous. there is so little actual news being put out nowadays that it is pathetic. everything is swept clean of questions or criticism of current white house. yet the opposite happened with bush. never ending bashing. i wouldn't mind if all presidents were questioned and doubted but to have the msm devoted to the success of current administration while they did everything to destroy the previous one means there is an agenda and it is liberal.

we can't stop them from profiling but we can protest it.

They're not just spying and profiling, they're intervening and trying to influence blogs and forums as well:

Well it's nothing new that the military powers are very much interested in reporters. It's new that they give the impression of 'neutrality' and openness but it's just a smoke screen. No military want's another Vietnam disaster in their hands.

I doubt it's anything new; it's just that now we're better able to find out about it and spread the word.

Are the media "going along" because it fits in with their 'Probama' agenda, anyway?
