After reading the OP, Thread and The Article I walked into my supervisors office and posted on our schedule calendar that I will not be in for a week after this friday. He asked if it was my Vacation and I replied NO I was helping our company stay in business by not having to pay me for a week lol...

On my way home everyday this week I will stock up on food, gas, water and whatever else I'll need for the week beginning this Friday.

I'm not sure who else will take part in this but instead of saying "No one will do it" I've decided I will and leave the rest up to others to lead with their conscious. Great call

I'm glad to hear that!!!
I will be participating in this as well. It's really not that hard. It would be nice to get the 24% of Americans out of work to help in protests.. After all they do have the time!!

Should We not act now by jumping out of the proverbial car, the steel wall of truth We are coming upon will hurt far worse

I'd join in on the strike, but Im un-employed mostly due to the economic crisis.

Wish I could help.

I'm not sure about jumping out of the car, especially if it's moving but I will stand by my word and my request that I made with my supervisor today at work and will not be going in for a week.

During that week I will do as much research about our economy, unemployement, foreclosures and so on to see what else I can do to prepare for the rest of the year. We have some big dates coming our way i.e. 9/11/09, 9/30/09, 10/24/09 10/28/09 and Nov, Dec will be consumed with H1N1 vaccination protests.

I didn't plan it this way but I'll be camping that week and off the grid so have fun.

I already stocked up on food and necessities.

Armageddon could happen and I wouldn't know it.

Imagine what You, and 70+million other Americans can do by protesting. You do have a voice, and it will be heard!

reply to post by Rams59lb

Don't forget about 09-09-09. I feel very strongly about that as do others. Hopefully by getting the awareness out about these dates; the elite will be put off of their cyclical game; out of sync, so as to not be strong.

Yes, Our economy is in the toilet, and the liars of govt. are running fast

reply to post by venividivici

Alright!!! I'll count You in as participating! Your taking off right? So, maybe anonymously call Your Representatives office, and tell'em Your joining the protest.

However, if you are watching MSNBC or CNN.. Then me and 70 Million americans will be called Nazis. If you watch Fox, then we're patriots.

For a proper strike and demonstration won't we need some signs and flags and bandanas to cover our faces when the jack booted thugs come at us with their trunchons and CS.

Or is this strike lite. where we just kick back and call it striking.

The pragmatist in me agrees that this will accomplish nothing, as only a minuscule fraction of the workforce is actually going to participate.

Of course, it's also the pragmatist that tells me that every journey begins with a single step. If things are going to go the way I want them to, I have to push them in that direction. Whether they actually move or not, is at this point in time, irrelevant. What matters is that I am secure in my being enough to push in the first place.

A patriot will not pick and choose, fighting only those battles they're assured to win.

I am a patriot, and when it comes to fighting for my country, there is no such thing as an exercise in futility. A general strike sends a message, not just to those we're fed up with, but to the apathetic. It tells everyone else "Hey, we're getting off our asses". The more people that stand up, the more people will begin to stand. People want to exist in the majority. But at one point in time, every majority was a minority.

Edit to add
I will be participating.

Personally I don't see too many people striking. I could be surprised but i just don't see it.

Agreed, though it doesn't take a lot to get people to take a long weekend at the end of August.

Boss: Hey where are you, we had a meeting?
Bob: Striking ... at the beach, with Stan."

It all depends on how you look at it.

People can call in sick.....
(Ya know, like the cops do when they are tying to steal more of our hard earned money.)
Like baseball/hockey greedy player who just can't live on 10 million per year, don't you feel for them?

I am very surprised this has not started happening in the US yet.

I read about a method to involve the masses in a slowdown without their consent. It is a peaceful method and can guarantee national coverage. One only needs to leverage the system with stagnation. The technique is based on the sit-in protests of the 1960’s.

All you need are four or five people with cars. Place signs in the back windows and enter the freeway at around 7:30 am. Line one car in each lane side-by-side and slowly reduce your speed to a crawl around 10 mph or less. For those willing to go the true distance come to a complete stop; park the car in the lanes and endure the chaos. This will bottleneck the system. In twenty short minutes, this can cause a traffic snarl that will last all day.

A group of 25 people in cars doing this from four separate directions into a city can close it down in less than an hour. The signs in the window are critical, because in five minutes time the radio news will discuss it, then in ten minutes, the helicopters will arrive, and then the MSM will open like a floodgate. This last point is especially true if it is suddenly seen in more than one city.

Can somebody here with a law enforcement background weigh in on the fines for this type of activity? Folks, I would never recommend trying this, but maybe you like I find the concept very interesting.

I read through all the angry threads here on ATS and wonder where all of you were back 8yrs ago when the Patriot Acts were being rammed down our throats. Where were the demonstrations, national strikes and solidarity then? I agree we need to take back our government... but then again, I was one of those 'lunatics' that voted for Ron Paul. What the hell was I thinking?

Although I have nothing against Larry Flynt, I find it somewhat odd that the leader of this 'national strike' is someone who has made his fortune in adult porn. Apparently that doesn't matter as much as Dennis Hof (owner of Bunny Ranch brothel) endorsing Ron Paul. How times change.

Any national strike, IMO, will be a short-lived, under-attended news blip at best. For my money (what little is left) there is a much more effective and unprescedented way the people of this country could put TBTP on notice. That is, if we can all get on the same team for once.

For one moment, put your personal party loyalties and prejudices aside. What I propose is that we initiate a class-action lawsuit against the Bush Administration, the SEC, members of the Senate Banking Committee and every other body, both public and private, that had oversight responsibilities for the securities trading activity that led to the economic collapse. It's important we START we these entities since it can be clearly established that they had the authority to regulate and control the activites that led to the economic crash and chose to do nothing until it was too late.

Once that lawsuit begins to move forward, the key players in the current administration will be able to be tied to the suit through evidentiary hearings and added to the defendants list.

Any lawyers in the crowd?

I have watched news and read news on the internet.

No word of strikes and problems they would cause.
(I admit, it is still very early in the day, 7:30 Am)

If I may, one other point......

In todays destroyed economy, I bet VERY few will miss work/strike or whatever for fear of losing their jobs.

For every person who quits/is fired, there are 100 who want the job.... and employers know this.

Just for the record...........

whaaa is officially on strike! Today I will not buy anything, I will not lift a finger to do anything remotely constructive.

Even though I'm officially at work and I may look like I care about the business at hand; It's just an illusion and pretend attention.

There certainly is a lot of satisfaction knowing that by doing nothing I am striking a blow for the common man.

Is someone bringing chips and salsa!
