In the latest twist of a story we have been following for a while, the ISP which serves as the main backbone for the filing sharing site, (Black Internet) ThePirateBay.org was ordered today to stop servicing the site today or face penalties.

According to various news sources as of 9:30 a.m. PT, ThePirateBay.org appeared to be mostly inaccessible.

Although other ISP’s carry the site, Black Internet was its main backbone.

In other ThePirateBay.org news today, the official, Swedish government run debt-collection agency, commonly referred to as the bailiff, said it could find no attachable assets belonging to 3 of the 4 founders of the site.

The 4 founders were sentenced in April to one year in jail, and fined $3.6 Million Dollars, they have appealed .

Its a sad day for file sharers everywhere, I have personally been a fan of thepiratebay.org for a long time.

demonoid has been more popular than piratebay for the last year anyhow.

plus demonoid has added on all the piratebay listings onto their tracker since piratebay admins put the entire 21 gig database up for download by everyone.

mininova also downloaded the database and digital hive.

But demonoid is what I use. They are great.

I was wondering what the hell had happened to TPB, i tried to get on it but could not.

I've always wondered why TPTB seem to single out piratebay.. There's lots of other places to find torrents but I just kinda liked them

What's real bad is you can search google for torrents and it'll link you directly to many sites where you can get a torrent. They need to hit google IMO!

It'll just be another hydra scenario, where you cut off one head and two more appear.

I've also never stated this in a forum. The Pirate Bay actually sucks, and anyone who used it on a regular basis is a moron.

Really bad news, thanks for the post. I went to Demonoid but registration is closed. I will have to go a looking for something.

thats why I like demonoid over piratebay. too many scammers, with infected crap.

Demonoid actually bans people off the tracker for putting up crap that gets reported for being infected.

They were hoping they could do to it what was done to Kazzaa funny thing was even though the general public lost access to Kazzaa those who knew where to look for years afterwords still had full access to kazzaa with millions of files yet and it was going pretty hard up until a couple years ago. (K-lite++ I think it was called or one of those anyway)

Same with lphant, someone bought it out (like napster) and commercialized it those who didn't download the updated version kept the old with plenty of files/sharers those that did well so far I haven't see a work around on that update. But then again never looked too hard.

There is certain parts of the internet that have never been attacked by them a good portion is where this stuff originates and for over a decade have been waiting to see if they target these particular services but so far only tried once or twice to be shot down by the courts on one of the services I'm aware of, but I suppose it's just a matter of time.

I can agree with the hydra scenario you've put forward... but calling people morons for using piratebay is just a bit out of line. I never had any real bad experience with it and it was very for searching with regular new posts. I only had a couple times where I got a bogus file.

On a side note to another poster above, I didn't know demonoid had a registration process like that. Piratebay only had that for comment purposes and posting your own torrents as far as I know and scammers stuck around. I just learned to avoid unknown sources.

Funny a moron could learn to not download something that might be malicious eh?

Man, I just knew that I had to rush to get all the good FSX addons the moment I knew Sheriff John Law was breathing down the Piratebay 4, and I did, just in time it appears
I jumped off the pirate ship with an armload of ill-gotten booty just before it went down

Arrr laddies and lasses... As long as there be treasures... There shalt be pirates!

How about rallying up a few invite codes for your fellow ATSers. I'm not asking for myself, I'm always able to find clean Torrens, provided there's a comment section.
I just think it's the right thing to do, given the circumstances.

Remember the sites people have linked to are not sharing anything themselves, they just host trackers. They are used for none copyrighted material sharing too, although the majority is copyrighted.

You know, if ATS does not improve its search function there is no point in posting new threads is there?

Search PirateBay: 0 Zero Zilch nada.

Your search - piratebay - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

* Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
* Try different keywords.
* Try more general keywords.

Feh.

Mod Edit: Search: PirateBay - Your topic search found 7 matching threads. If you have an issue with the search function, please raise it in the Board business forum to avoid your post being removed as off-topic.

How was TPB singled out? Considering isoHunt has been fighting a suit for the last what, 5 years? Mininova has had one or two, Demonoid got hounded out of existence for over a year, Torrentspy got shut down completely, Oink got shut down completely, Elite Torrents got shut down and owner jailed, not to mention many many many smaller sites shut down.

No, TPB was far from singled out, you just hear more about them and their arrogance, which as we can all clearly see, got them absolutely nowhere.

Actually, with all due respect, I just conducted a ATS search on PirateBay and came up with 10+ pages of threads? I think the search feature works just fine.

In regards to the topic I wonder who will acquire the domain name once it becomes available to the public and what the will do with it? Continue the PirateBay legacy?

TPB infuriated TPTB with their arrogance, that is why TPTB launched a witch hunt against TPB to set an example.

They did not abide by Swedish law, because no content was ever hosted by TPB. But TPTB has long arms and threathened Swedish officials.

It worked.

TPTB now laughs "muhahaha" at TPB.

Hopefully they will relocate offshore on an oil rig where all the casino servers are in international waters. Bit more expensive though.

But very well guarded by real Pirates with sub machine guns, speedboats, anti-air, radar, you name it.
