I Don't Like Hamid Karzai's Hat

I was reading a Reuters article recently that was discussing the recent Afghan election. Apparently the Finance Minister claims that Hamid Karzai, the incumbent has won the election. That, however, is not what bothers me most. What irritates me is Hamid Karzai's signature hat.

The hat, known to about every society on earth and throughout history is often an indicator of social status and in the military and church, rank. In the case of both men and women, the choice of hat will influence the opinion the wider world has of you.

So, when I keep seeing Hamid Karzai in photographs, where is nearly always sporting that ridiculous hat, I can't help but think, "this man's hat is affecting the course of the War on Terror; how could anyone wearing that style of hat be taken seriously?"

I suppose my opinion would be changed if many people wore this style of Hat, but he is the only one. In photos that show him around a large number of his countrymen...noone else is wearing this style of hat. Just him.

In the first photo Karzai is the only one wearing that style hat...and if you look closely at the expressions on the faces of the men he is with...they seem displeased; possibly concerning their new leaders sense of fashion. I believe they are thinking, "Are we really about to hitch our lives and fortunes to a man who'd wear a weird shaped hat with an animal skin print?" The metro-sexual image isn't going over well in rugged Afghanistan.

In the second photo, an elderly man is also shown and he appears to be wearing a hat of similiar style, but he appears to be quite unhappy.

This man is getting people killed because of that hat. The average Afghan has no respect for him; Please write him a letter begging him to lose the hat, before we lose the war. Observe the images below...then get that man a new Hat, something that looks good while smoking a Cigar, but as long as Hamid Karzai is wearing that hat and those robes...I don't care how many troops you send to Afghanistan, the effort is lost.

Look dude, he is wearing upper-class traditional Afghan clothing. You know why other Afghans don't wear this? Because Afghanistan has no infrastructure and Afghans wear clothes that are homemade or imported (black market is big there).

Considering Afghanistan is now a capitalist democracy, thanks to the US, their government is now a popularity contest (which is what American democracy really is). Karzai is looking his best so that some Afghans delusioned by American ideals can assume that they may too look the same way.

Culture aside, I like the hat. In highschool I had one of those russian-style furry hats. Sure it was big, but it was warm and fuzzy. These days all you see men wear are baseball caps. Nothing says "I don't care" like baseball cap conformity (please giggle here if you like baseball caps, this is satire). Men's unique style has gone to the wayside in favor of today's version of the cookie-cutter corporate clone.

The hat reminds me of one worn by Eddie Murphy in Coming to America.

He looks better in the hat. Without it, he looks like a priest. Maybe he should wear a Chicago Cubs hat

Well! I can clearly see that you're very upset with Karzai's choice of hat!

And since we all know that a bad hat day can ruin everything in the world of politics, choosing the right hat is not easy!

It's essential for the hat not to clash with the rest of your tribal outfit, personal image & cultural attributes which you are promoting soo hard to maintain when you shine as a corrupt puppet politician of Afghanistan.

So regardless if you're walking the catwalk naked in your palace in front of all your friends a hazy friday night downtown Kabul - or zig-zagging through the minefields of corrupt MSM reporters asking difficult questions about your cousin at one of your press conferences - the hat stays on.

Therefore I can not agree with you that Hamid Karzai has the wrong hat on those pictures; on the the contrary, I think that the hat goes very well with his (hand made by small hands of Afghan child workers) Afghan goat-hair robe and the Afghani upper-class look in general.

They wear these kinds of hats in the region you know , it's a cultural thing, and the model it's also very popular in nearby regions, like the Kaukasus!

Therefore I don't understand when you are bashing the Hat-Fashion of Afghanistan specifically?

Instead of bashing the Hat-fashion of Afghanistan like some kind of Hat-Fascist-Fashionista of the worst kind! we should really take a deep look at the Hat-Fashion in your own country first!

It's also here we can find the biggest hat-conspiracy of them all, even your political parties & leaders are heavily involved.

Now we have come to the point where I could say: I REST MY CASE! and end of discussion and so on! because it's clear for all to see that Hamid Karzai's hat actually is a very nice hat that matches his robe - and if you compare to Howard Dean's yellow hat or that picture of you with that silly Mickey Mouse hat with Mouse ears (which by the way totally clashes with your Hawaiian shirt) I would say that you have lost the argument - sorry!

But to fair and to nourish this healthy discussion further, I must say that I never understood what kind of hat you wanted Karzai to wear instead. So to be friendly I'm going to post a few more types of hats from the rest of the world which you can choose from - hell! I even through in a a potpurri of lady-upper class-hats from the British Royal Ascot racecourse so we have a broad field of hats to choose from!

So if you could be so kind my ATS friend, to point out one type of hat that you personally would like Hamid Karzai to wear instead of the one he's currently wearing!

And please! you can't cheat now by saying that you prefer to see him without any hat because that is not going to happen in Afghanistan where they have a very strict hat code for all bald politicians over 40.

Karzai's hat is called a karacul hat. It actually got some attention in fashion circles some time ago.

However, the making of the hat is not for the faint of heart. It is made from the wool of an unborn lamb.
