GREAT pictures......

Needless to say, I was a bit shocked when I saw a History Channel documentary that indicated that my Grandfather, Alexander McCracken (RAF), was the lead officer in charge of the Nazi prison camps following the collapse of the "Reich" in 1945.

STARRED AND FLAGGED

I don't understand how you can call this a popular delusion.

Even though I may not agree one iota with Hitlers policies, this shows that Hitler was simply the catalyst... the German people were the real culprits.

They wanted power over others and were willing to kill millions for it.

I never did like Germans.... Wait a minute...isn't that how it starts?

think that calling Obama and others like Bush "Hitler" or calling someone a "Nazi" would be a serious non-criminal offense because it uses the same severity of the former to the latter.

Right. It is not something to compare anybody to. Not even the "leader" of North Korea.

That is, how can you compare someone to Hitler when Hitler killed 11 million people?

That doesn't even compare to Stalin and others.

Perhaps it would be a good time to mention Godwin's Law.

Godwin's Law

[edit on 24-8-2009 by Deaf Alien]

I forgot to mention Godwin's law (had it in my mind as I was writing), but it needs to be labeled on the mouths of so many people like how the government censors peacemakers.

But yes! No one talks about Stalin or Mao, both who make Hitler look like he was practicing. It is because Hitler targeted Jews that make him so much more terrible. Ironically, Jews have been targeted with discriminatory laws since the Middle Ages with severe punishment and it was only Hitler that bothered to take it to the extreme. Had the U.S. not been an isolationist at the time, Hitler would have been wiped out earlier. Still, it is wrong to compare.

I seriously doubt it. After WWI, Germany was blamed for it and was expected to pay a lot for it. The Treaty of Versailles screwed Germany. Hitler, before he become what we know of him today, was actually good for Germany. Once he became evil, establishing the Nazi Party and so on, being the government, the people simply followed as most people in any government. Is it not any different than when American chant the mantra "Freedom!" and chastise anyone who questions whether or not we should be going to this place or that to start a war. Chastise anyone who says we should understand the other side's view. Chastise anyone who is critical of Israel. We are called "unpatriotic" and said to be siding with the terrorists. THAT is mind control right there because the masses do not even think about WHY we go to certain places like Iraq to fight. They do not have a sense of skepticism for the gov. but rather they think in terms of us vs them. They say it is the war on terrorism because they are told it is a war on terrorism. But was the war on drug successful? No.

We are also brainwashed to believe this is the best country on earth when it is not. We have over 2 million prisoners in our overcrowded prisons. Cannabis - I don't smoke - is illegal but getting prescription drugs, guns, and illicit drugs are easy as cake. We have a shady government, a screwed up justice system, and a weakening Constitution. But we instead chant the mantra of freedom and act as if we are entitled to be insulting to other countries and foreigners, etc. That is a superpower and its effect on the people.

This is no different than Germany. Germans did have it bad before Hitler came and lo and behold, he came, they saw a leader and despite his views, they went along with it. They had no choice. You are a fool to believe the average German firmly believed in those Nazi ideas. In fact, there are interviews of Germans during that time that said they saluted Hitler because "it was the thing to do". Do it or you could have been seen as a traitor.

I am not comparing the U.S. to Nazi Germany, but what I am saying is that when a country become a power, a superpower, the people cannot help but to feel empowered themselves because they, we, have given our government the opportunity to make us a great nation. It is their job to do that. We act as if we are the most civilized country in the world like Rome did, like the British empire did, like Germans did when neither of us are not.

I don't agree. Mao, Stalin , Pol Pot and other hideous mass murderers slaughtered their own people and did not set out on wars of conquest.
I think there is also the ethnicity factor, Germany gave the world Beethoven and Goethe. The way they industrialized murder as a modern society was a shock. also, other insane mass murderers did their genocide in relative secrecy, we had an open door to the Nazi madness.
Thw whole Nazi routine of the black SS uniforms, the deaths Head, the Lightning Bolts etc is extra creepy. Despite the fact that others may have exceeded Hitlers death toll, the Nazis remain the poster boys of pyschotic killing machines.

1 thing nazis taught governments including ours is how to make people fear you.

instead of in secrecy they made public fear look good which has become copied around the world.

And they indoctrinated their people by making the citizens think it was 'patriotism'

which is even scarier, even our own people are falling for it. Indoctrination under the patriotism label.

If you look in this picture here, you will see a golden bird that is used in alot of U.S. Federal symbols.

It's simply an eagle. The US chose the eagle as one of its symbols long before Hitler.
Every culture in parts of the world where eagles exist has used them as symbols of grace, nobility, cunning etc. Much like the lion has also been used. There really isn't any significance other than that.

Wow, immense images.

And on the ridiculous debate about Obama; seriously, the idea that "large crowds" and "widespread adoration" equates to some similar intent or danger is beyond idiotic. By that theory alone Michael Jackson should have successfully become a dictator and murdered millions of people circa 1988.

Seriously people, get a grip.

These images are truly amazing though, it really does make me consider how short a time it has been.
Something about seeing them in colour makes them seem less detached and less abstract. It's no longer easily dismissed as "just history".

I don't know why there's such a different effect from seeing images like this in colour, but I suppose it brings a realisation of life; these people were not so different to how we are now.

Another thing that I find remarkable is the sheer drama and grandiose style. Everything is so perfectly staged and choreographed, as if each image was carefully constructed one person at a time. Obviously they weren't, but it is quite awe inspiring to see such glorification in a leader.

It's not hard to see now how they were so easily swayed as a people.

Ok I'll be the one to ask....

Is the bald eagle statue in these photos the same bald eagle that's in American architecture? I know i've seen it in America. Connection maybe?

Anyone recognize the Eagle in the 7th photo from the top?

Gee, where have we seen that before in America?

Yes. Its called symbolism. Unites States got their symbolism from the Roman Empire. Pantheon, Eagle, etc... They did not get it from Germany. I should know. I wrote a thesis on the issue.

Everything you see in the United States was created using Rome style architecture and symbolism. Rome is considered the first republic to exist, so we applied their lifestyle to the United States.

We are considered to be the Eastern version of Rome. Its not by chance but by design.

Unless Barry O is the one Muslims and Christians are concerned with, he will NEVER achieve anything remotely close to what was captured in those pictures.

I believe the danger is creating a National power that the average person is afraid to stand up to. The National Socialist party created a cult of personality and social services which was the carrot, and fear of death which was the stick. Whoever spoke up was dealt with by mobs, would you speak up in that case?

Personally I think Germans are brilliant, beautiful people, and it's a shame that inaccurate firebombing from the west and revenge by the Soviets in the east caused deaths of millions of civilians. All because of the insanity, stupidity, and pure evil in the leadership. War is bad, but not fighting evil is worse.

These photos are phenomenal! It is like you were there when you took it! S&F!

If only there was such pictures that went back to the 18th Century...

What election doesn't have all of those though? Now if the pictures were of people of screaming and crying to shake Hitler's hand, then we'd have some interesting comparisons to make!

Funny thing is... so was the Nazi Germany symbolism... inspired on the romans... cool isnt it? The greatest empire that ever was... and that every super power wants to be... a modern rome, the absolute power and grandeur of Rome in all its glory.

Now for the pictures, I absolutely love them. I'm sorry if it hurts some more "sensitive" ppl, but by the pictures you can easily say that anyone who witnessed that "live" HAD to become a nazi... you can feel the power, the pride and the strength through pictures... imagine being there and feel it,... you cant blame anyone, it was IMMENSE.

Oh btw... and the guy that said "hitler was different than stalin or mao or pol pot because they only slaughtered their own ppl and didnt wage a war of conquest"... seriously... lol, this was prolly the most STUPID THING I heard on ATS... so basically, as long as you only slaughter your OWN and dont wage a war of conquest against others, makes it better?

Man that was sick lol... seriously... go wash your mouth and meanwhile see if you dont skip your medication...

And yes... what stalin did and what mao did... make hitler look like a school boy...

In the end I just think he wanted the best for his country... that he actually LIVED by the rules he demanded, leading by example. He trully wanted the best for germany. How many "white colar peace politians" want that these days?

Not all "hitler" was bad...
