I'm a member of the band AWAKE (WeAreAWAKE.us) and in addition to offering our music (rock/metal) for free...we have been "spreading the word" for five years about quite a few conspiracies and social issues. We are just finishing up our latest album, DARK MATTERS, with a new singer and are planning a tour next year. Our last album, INDUSTRIAL CEMETERIES, is based on the book "The Long Descent" by John Michael Greer about the end of peak oil and a number of related issues.

Another band with such messages is Jon Oliva's Pain (JonOliva.net). They have some really great music (rock/metal/ballads) and lyrics. Very intelligent and also related to this post. Jon Oliva is the former singer of Savatage if you were into that era of metal.

Regardless...enjoy the tunes!

I like to think alot of the old school bands actually had something to sing

for, now a days I find a lot of the bands like say GREEN DAY are only

buying into this fad to make money. I mean clearly just to disect the band

I just named look at their previous albums nothing political and then you

can't find anything that isn't. Some of the bands mentionsed here I think

were true patriots on the ways of breaking into this genre of music, sadly

others are just trying to capitalize off of it and make money. Again

GREENY DAY.

I'm sorry but what have the lyrics of wings for marie prt 1&2 got to do with 'waking people up'???

Sure a verse here or there can be interpreted as such but its not the meaning held by the band itself.
Also the lyrics displayed in the video are erroneous. See...
PRT1
PRT2
........For accurate lyrics & accurate song meaning.

Its a tribute to his mother Judith Marie, 10,000days=length of time in coma,
Its a prayer too, or a demand, he demands she be looked after & have a safe passing/existence in her version of the afterlife "heaven"... Not directly to do with waking up sheeple....

I mean I #ing love those song (wings for..), love that album, love that band & obviously from ur sig' we're in the same boat....I just feel it's a cop out to misrepresent the song like that...

I love your list, really love the new one by Green Day.

Me love me some Pink floyd. As classic, deep and otherworldly unconventional as its gets.
www.youtube.com...
Us and Them bundle up a whole bunch of conspiracies in one without even trying.

The problem with metal, punk rock and even most of hip hop, is that the songs get easily tossed behind as just belonging to marginalized underground genres. Even rebellious musicians are gonna have to find ways to refine and mature their work so that the message does not get drowned in all the.. well “noise”. It always just comes up as adolescent bristle. When you want a song to have massive effect, it doesn’t matter the genre, you have to really think about the artistic element also and try to make it as genuinely timeless as possible. Singers tend to be too specific in their lyrics now days, its ruins the overall goal in the end.

I’ve always been writing little poems since little and as I grew older, I realized how that was an elementary part of my being. I’ve bee seriously considering about concretizing them into songs because I’m beginning to think they can really add tot he part of the wake up call puzzle. Just by the titles alone, I want to make people tremble; I want to MOVE the earth and sky so that they ultimately crack opened the truth, not just whine and bitch about trivial things.

Please allow me to respectfully disagree.
It is true that a lot of the "old" stuffs were more genuine and it always seems that way because they were the originals.

However, a lot of this "making money" stuff is a distraction by the modern music industry to sort of tint the art and make it seems as if artist now days just want to make money. They've planted the seed and watch it destroy the essential.
Why do you think that music artists are referred by the number of selling albums instead of the content?

Subliminal - Suicidal Tendencies (Explicit)

Flashing pictures on my screen
Shown too quickly to be seen
Does not register in my conscious mind
Propaganda of another kind
They're * with me subliminally
They're * with me subliminally
Danger - Nightmare
Doomsday - Nightmare
Murder - Nightmare
Nightmare, Nightmare

Refrain:
Flashing pictures on my screen
Shown too quickly to be seen
Does not register in my conscious mind
Propaganda of another kind
Danger - Nightmare
Doomsday - Nightmare
Murder - Nightmare
Nightmare, Nightmare
They're * with me subliminally
They're * with me subliminally
They're * with me subliminally
They're * with me subliminally

Watching T.V. I start to cry
For no reason I don't know why
Could it be from messages on my TV
Which I'm getting subliminally?
They're * with me subliminally
They're * with me subliminally

(Refrain)

Mind control the easiest way
Sponsored by the C.I.A.
It's a weapon you cannot see
It's propaganda subliminally
They're * with me subliminally
They're * with me subliminally

The Prisoner - Suicidal Tendencies

You're the prisoner locked in your cell
You're living in your personal hell
Invisible bars, they block your view
They don't exist except for you

Refrain:
Free, why can't you see how easily
You could break those bars right down
New freedom found, travel around
And find out exactly why
Give it a try living the lie
And try to solve the final clue
See if it's true, found out just who
The real enemy is you

Don't be afraid
Don't be deceived
A new world for you
Can be conceived

Don't tell me about how the world isn't fair
How you'll live your life, how you choose
I don't want to hear another excuse
How it ain't your fault when you lose

And you're the prisoner
Your mind's diseased, my mind is cured

I was the prisoner but never again
My worst enemy is now my friend
Brainwashed you'll probably believe
I gave it up for a new reprieve

(Refrain)

You say that you're political
I say screw that, you're just a fool.

Criminals In Uniform - Sepultura

No Good (Attack The Radical) - Pantera

In the states
There's a problem with race
Because of ignorant past burned fires
From evolution
We've been killing each other
I figure man should have it down to a science

No chance
Not for a minute
Not for a second
I won't be defensive
I'm straight out in my opinion
You'd better listen to a man who knows what he is saying
I've seen your side
You run and hide for the mere fact that you feel inferior
Be superior
And know your interior

[Pre]
Race, pride, prejudice
Black man, white man
No stand
Live in the past
We make it last
A hated mass
No solution
Mind pollution
For revolution

[Chorus]
So low behold my eyes
This land of fools will rise
No good
For no one

You blame oppression and play the role of criminals
To rape and burn show progress is minimal
White hoods and militants you know it's such a pity
Living, breathing
Violence in your city

If one man
Had one home
In one world
Held live alone without variety
Full of anxiety
No one to point at, question
Or even talk to -- in his private grave
No matter what color
He wouldn't be saved from hell
He dwells
A closed mind playing the part of prison cells

[Pre]

[Chorus]

Consfearacy - Slayer

I need to redefine
All the things I hate today
Politics that fail
From a president derailed
I hate the * economy
It might as well be sodomy
I know that in the end
I'm expected to pretend

But I can't relate
To your verbal idiocy
No one's in control
When the government's the enemy

So light the fuse
Impose your views
Consfearacy
Is anarchy

Actions of hostility
Breeds conformity
Annihilation will begin
Extermination from within

So light the fuse
Impose your views
Consfearacy
Is anarchy

I need to redefine
How I see the world today
Seems that all the war
Didn't even up the score
It's only mind pollution
There is no resolution
Still I know that in the end
I'm expected to pretend
That I can Think of myself
Blame it all on someone else
Half-hearted smile
While you look the other way
I can't relate
To your verbal idiocy
No one's in control
When the government's the enemy

So light the fuse
Impose your views
Consfearacy
Is anarchy

Believe it or not, the art is powerful enough to totally destroy the coorporations, from outside or INSIDE. That's how much confidence we should have in it.
unfortunaltely, we don't ; we underestimate it.

See, you can't always know the obstacles coming at you; it is up to you not to choose getting too distracted by them.

Flobots Fight with tools:

echo echo one-nine
hear the call through fault lines
smoke signals old rhymes
shorted lights in store signs
spelled in a broken code
find that it is time to
breath build bend and refine you
we sky tenants
give it all but wont give up
radio soul antennas
radio to lift spirits
call sign commando
m.o. is independence
scream till the walls fall,
dissolve all the limits

occupied minds
unemployed skills
desolation
worn out
torn down
just for now thrill seekers
slanging
test tube babies in beakers
where gun blasts pump straight from the speakers
the system where the
poor get poorly paid
to hold the ladder
where the rich get ricocheted
into the stratosphere
and in between people are rushin' like vladimir
with metals to make their status clear
get us out of here

we need heroes
build them
don't put your fist up
fill them
with our hopes and our hearts and our hands
we're the architects of our last stand

there's a war going on for your mind
those who seek to occupy it will stop at nothing
the battlefield is everywhere
there is no sanctuary
there are no civilians
you have two choices
surrender or enlist

what kind of person are you
always the first to argue
or never down to stick your neck out
cause it hurts you far too much
to see your rep suffer
set you up a buffer
well neither is enough for us cut from a tougher brand of duct tape
the propaganda's stuck on us like sock pajamas
spread like a virus
through accepted thoughts and proper manners
but off the cameras
something's simmering across the land
about to bubble up
and knock the lids off of the pots and pans

we are non stop juggernauts
stomp ziggurats
spit manifestos
by terabytes and gigawatts
shock paradigms
give sense to a score
throw thoughts through the sky
activate twenty more
in these high and dry times
expectorate on dogma
pragmatic sycophants
divide and conquer
we build bridges offer
hard work and prosper
as hand made heroes brought to you by no sponsors

all free minds to the front
all free minds to the front
we call upon women
we call upon children
we call upon the handicapped
the infirmed
the week of heart
we need your courage
your dedication
your passion
your commitment
gather up your platinum
melt it down
gather up your gold
melt it down
gather up your bronze
your silver
your aluminum
melt it down
melt it down
melt it down

"They Don't Care About Us"

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
Situation, aggravation
Everybody allegation
In the suite, on the news
Everybody dog food
Bang bang, shot dead
Everybody's gone mad

Chorus:
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
You can never kill me
Jew me, sue me
Everybody do me
Kick me, kike me
Don't you black or white me

(Repeat chorus)

Tell me what has become of my life
I have a wife and two children who love me
I am the victim of police brutality, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of hate
You're rapin' me of my pride
Oh, for God's sake
I look to heaven to fulfill its prophecy...
Set me free

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
trepidation, speculation
Everybody allegation
In the suite, on the news
Everybody dog food
black man, black male
Throw your brother in jail

(Repeat chorus)

Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came
You know I do really hate to say it
The government don't wanna see
But if Roosevelt was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
Situation, speculation
Everybody litigation
Beat me, bash me
You can never trash me
Hit me, kick me
You can never get me

(Repeat chorus)

Some things in life they just don't wanna see
But if Martin Luther was livin'
He wouldn't let this be

Skin head, dead head
Everybody gone bad
Situation, segregation
Everybody allegation
In the suite, on the news
Everybody dog food
Kick me, strike me
Don't you wrong or right me

(Repeat chorus 3 x)
