Obama: Republican conspiracy out to kill health reform

President Obama took to the conservative airwaves Thursday to charge that Republican leaders are engaged in a vast right-wing conspiracy to kill health care reform in order to repeat the 1994 mid-term takeover of Congress, which followed the defeat of President Clinton's reform plan

From this Washing Times article: Obama: Republican conspiracy out to kill health reform

"I think early on, a decision was made by the Republican leadership that said, 'Look, let's not give him a victory, maybe we can have a replay of 1993, '94, when Clinton came in, he failed on health care and then we won in the mid-term elections and we got the majority. And I think there are some folks who are taking a page out that playbook," the president said.

So President Obama believes the opposition to the government takeover of healthcare is a Conspiracy propogated by the Republican party to gain votes during the 2010 congressional elections.

First of all the Republican party is in such dis-array right now that they couldn't organize a bake sale, let alone a conspiracy of this magnitude. This is not a Republican conspiracy, it is a genuine disagreement with the proposed legislation, and to say so is a jab at everyone who is worried about the government running a major part of their lives.

Sorry BO, but it's not a conspiracy when the public doesn't want this an don't like it being shoved down our throats, but to blame the Republican's? That's laughable.

The problem isn't the Republicans. It's the Democrats and the American populance.

The progressive liberals demand a public option and the moderate Dems say the votes aren't there for the public option. So, this is a Democratic Party problem.....the Republicans can't be blamed for this.

And, the American populance (for the most part) doesn't want this. We don't want government run health care and we don't want reform to be taken to the level of immense government involvement.

I believe, though some sort of convoluted logic... Obama just admitted conspiracies exist and has therefore legitimized all of our existances.

Take heed sheeple we are only as "crazy" as the president.

Somebody wake me up when Obama's out of office. I'm so sick of his insults and his inability to listen to constructive criticism without acting like a 4 year old throwing a temper tantrum. I feel sorry for his children - to watch their Dad go from Messiah to Moron in the public eye has got to be a horrible experience.

If it was just republicans, then this would sail right through. I mean the democrats have the majority in the House and Senate, right? There should be no problem with those pesky republicans.

As for the people who actually read the bill and got upset, well, if senators don't read it, why should the people? They are all just trouble-makers who need to be sent off to the camps. . . . . oh wait, that's the agenda in october. . .

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if Obama and the Democrats wouldn't spend so much of their time and effort crying about the Republicans and instead redirect their focus on their own defecting Congressional membership, they might get this passed.

The American people aren't completely stupid. They know that a united Democratic party could pass this with no Republican support whatsoever. So the holdup is obvious. The Dems can't reign in their own defectors.

This reform effort is going down in flames and at this point, the Dems are desperately flailing at any target that happens to wander in front of them, hoping they can make some charge stick. Its not working. The public is seeing right through it.

Being referred to as Hitler by both conservatives and town hall protesters is constructive criticism?

Not really, but Bush put up with it for 8 years. What makes Obama so special? Thats part of what pisses people off about him. He (like many democrats) lash out like little kids when their own tactics comeback on them.

As Wimbly said, it was for eight years. Many of us warned the liberals here and elsewhere against using such comparisons when Bush was in office, stating that it lowered the quality of political debate to an unacceptable level. They told us it was free speech, which is true, and they continued with it and still do, painting conservatives as nazis, racists, and any other vile descriptor they can imagine.

So now, those tactics are simply being redirected at the left now that they are in power. Its not right, but at the same time, I have little sympathy. Welcome to what conservatives have had to put up with all of these years.

How many times are you going to make that argument? It's not even a good one.

Why were people comparing Bush to Hitler? Because he was seizing civil liberties left and right by exploiting a scared post-9/11 country. He invaded two countries. He was holding people, including AMERICAN CITIZENS, indefinitely and without trial. He made torture official policy. The list goes on....

But apparently Obama is Hitler because he wants to create a public insurance option for people. That's just great logic right there. With the exception of a small minority, conservatives were behind Bush 110% when he was trampling all over the constitution.

Blatant hypocrisy at it's worst....

You're right. Bush used scare tactics and fear caused by an event to seize civil liberties while Obama has simply seized them. Or attempted to do so.

Also, you're right, it's not a good argument, so neither side should be bringing it up. Too bad it happened for 8 years from day one and people are out for blood.

Hitler came to power by seizing control of his party with soaring rhetoric.

When the opposition began voicing it's concerns, he sent his union thugs and organized groups to the meetings to beat down opposing voices.

He pushed a National Socialist agenda.

And that's different how?

I think federalizing banks and auto manufacturers might've had a bit part in it.

Hello everyone,

Don't slam me okay.
I Was a democrat.
I stupidly voted for Obamanation.
I have to tell the truth in that it was simply to remove the republican administration.
I am Not here to fight about which party is/was right or wrong. As far as I am concerned it is Both.
What I am concerned with is what is Happening Now. The current Administration seems Hell Bent on "Taking Care" of the American People without OUR INPUT.
Health care reform is Wrong for the Country. I'm not talking about Grandma.
I Am talking about the Cost of this unnecessary "reform" to the American people.
There will be an added sales tax of 5% to purchases except for govt. agencies and charitable organizations.
In Michigan our sales tax is already 6% which would raise our sales tax to 11%. We can only pray that the state doesn't decide to raise it more for whatever reason they might have.
And income taxes will also go up, and No not just for the top 5% of wage earners. There will also be a gradual income tax increase for the rest of us, no specification of How Much though. Also a tax on Benefits you receive from your employer.
What we need is Insurance and tort reform.
If there are uninsured "Americans" then the income requirements for Medicaid and Medicare insurance should be adjusted to cover those individuals.
It would be much less expensive than the proposed "reform" that the Administration is proposing by Billions if not Trillions of American taxpayer Dollars.
The Govt. has already taken over control of the Banks and The Largest Industry still on U.S. soil.(auto industry)
I am a single American individual. I do not belong to any group or organization. I love my Country and it's people, and despite what some have been saying, Change is NOT always good.
I would ask Everyone on Both sides of the Issue to Read HR 3200, HR 676 and HR 15.
Please read them.
You cannot decide where you stand only with the information given by the Media.
Again I say Please Read the BILLS! Inform YOURSELF.

I heard this on the TV news this morning and all I could think of was Hillary and her 'it's a vast right wing conspiracy' statement.

IN yesterdays local paper, under world and nation section, thier was a small articel abuot obama being peed at conspircay theorists and this health plan. HE said he was assuring the public, its NOT for illegal aliens, and thiers NO death panel. He's tired of hearing and reading about it, so he is wanting to assure we the people, everythings okie dokie. I left 50/50 on this. Why? because read the clausses in the health care bill. We cannot trust what the government does or thinks. they sepnt $400 on a hammer back in 1994! anyone rememebr that? Theyve been sending money to evil countrys like Isreal, bailing out the rest of the world, while we the poeple got ZILCH in return, not even a cheap handout, let alone the automakers and banks, especially banks, like AIG that got caught red handed misusing bailout money for thier own perosanl purposes.
This is also coming form a man, who does not wnat to investigate 9/11. a government that withholds any info about who shot JFK. Yuo get the idea. thier lying..would you wnat a liar as yuor own doctor? Look at all the misttakes the CDC has made, and the views of the FDA. chemically posioning us. Sorry, but is ee these government docotrs, as he guy from the movie JFK. In the movie, when JFK's body was taken to that hospitol, so tall scary white haired guy, said 'we'll take over now'. Guy had NO emotion or life in his eyes. yude think he workled at area 51, Jospeh mengelas assisstant or something. Thats what comes to my mind

I have never seen nor read about any instance in which Obama ever threw a "temper tantrum" or anything like it. There are a lot of things people can say against him but he just doesn't lose his cool.

And it's no secret at all that Republicans want to turn this country against health care reform and defeat it, like they defeated it in 1994 and for the same reasons. Obama was just telling the plain truth. He's good at that.

"Union thugs, " as you call them, brought you the 40 hour work week and the weekend, among other benefits. These are just a few of the things organized labor has achieved for working people.

They aren't perfect, but a lot of things you apparently take for granted were gained through the sweat and courage of working people who came before you.
