Plaxico Burress has plead guilty and accepted a 2 year prison sentence for what amounts to an act of stupidity on his part.

Veteran Steelers receiver Hines Ward said Thursday he believes prison-bound former teammate Plaxico Burress, 32, will probably never play again in the NFL.

"Who knows? Maybe he comes back and gets another chance," Ward said. "Right now, it's not going to happen that way."

Burress, who played with the Steelers from 2000-2004, pleaded guilty Thursday to a weapons charge and agreed to a two-year sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the right thigh at a Manhattan nightclub in November of 2008. The gun was not licensed in New York or in New Jersey, where Burress lived, prosecutors said.

Facing the prospect of spending at least 3 1/2 years behind bars if convicted at trial, Burress -- who has a wife and 2-year-old son - accepted the plea bargain yesterday that also includes two years of supervised release.

I say stupidity because carrying a loaded weapon in the waistband of your underwear is stupid. Not to add that it was unregistered and illegal to carry in NYC.

But he got the sentence because he broke the firearms laws, not b/c he was stupid. There is no law against being stupid.

Mmm, unfortunate but a pretty fair sentence no?

I feel for his family. They will now be without a husband, father and breadwinner for at least 20 months until Burress becomes eligible for parole.*

So even with parole he's going to have to do close to the max.

Shows you what a joke Vick's sentence was though.

Roger Goodell probably threatened to suspend him years longer than that if he didn't take the plea. He may still have some semblance of a career left doing it this way, rather than no chance the other way.

Goodell's not playing around with these guys.

Peace
