Ive seen lots of posts on here for survival out in the wilderness.. but does anyone know any information on surviving in a Urban dwelling after economic collapse, or in times of war, when the cities have been bombed out, ect? And if not could we make a forum that collectively brings together our ideas on how to survive in an urban environment?

In an urban area the buildings will be in very poor shape if that town city is bombed..also would not be a place to hang out in due to all the homeless from the bombs and the thieves and looters.

You could survive there and many have done so around the world. It would not be ideal if troops came in though.

The only way that you could live in the urban areas safely during wartime or economic (involving extremes and mayhem such as rioting looting ect.) is if you had a bomb shelter somewhere where only you and a handful of others knew about it.

sure... there are at least three fundimentals to urban survival .

1) the people around you are your greatest weakness , and your greatest asset .
build them up , or they will pull you down .

2) preperation is inversely proportional to fear .
fear will kill you long befor bombs and bullets .

3) a)communication: the method you use to modifie , alter or change organization b)organization: like an organizim , all parts are automaticaly functioning , following design functions based on specail talents or capablitys unique to its team members .
orgaization assumes behavior that is reflex , with out thinking , this is what we will do , give this input data.
c)team work: members of a team are specialists , the owl does not try to swim , the whale does not try to run thru the forest swiftly , the deer makes no effort to fly silently tat night ....
working togather... they have the united skills of its membership d)know your weps : illusion , misdirection , deception , insight , local knowledge , planning , are your greatest wepons .
fortifications are the grave yards of weak minds , and magnets for fools .

... subset e)intelegance : the best intele is that which effects you , {it is not enought to know where danger is ... you must not go there } , knowing about future is not important , knowing what you will do about it is critical .... thats why the future is useful . the best intel comes from preganant women and small , old or weak people... the paranoids among us , seek them out . f)preparation
be in the moment , stand in the shoes you will ware , see thru the eyes of as bad as bad can get ...

never forget the goal .

your doing this so you won't worry , you will be calm !
so you can move on with your life .

even if your wrong.. you will be in better shape then doing nothing



universal advice .

bleach to turn sewer water into drinking water .

rice is a good staple that can be traded , eaten , and carried easily .

steel can's of veggies , are weps , fluid , food , money .

the bullets you have need not fit in your guns you have , they only have to fit in the guns that protect you .

bullets are coin of the realm.
bullets are more valuable then gold , gold you need a buy'r
bullets only need a target .

guns and rifles have very limited use or worth... but at what they do well , they are with out equal .
the presents of guns may very well stop violance .
the absense of guns historicaly promises nothing .

hand guns are only good in stopping a fist fight .
shot guns are inside buildings .
rifles are offensive and defensive .

never kick a bee hive and exspect honey to come out .


know that in great war ,civil unrest and chaos... most places are totaly uneffected .
they do not attack , what they don't know is there .
they do not see what is unremarkable , common , of no intrest .

avoid being the center of trade , the focus of safty , the leader of communication , the head quarter .

but at the same time , the more comfortable you are in an uncomfortable world ... the bigger target you become .


frankly speaking ; calm , honesty , and thinking are your greatest survival tools .
'being in the moment' your best training .

My $0.02 on urban survival:

Keep a small supply of coins (two rolls of Suan B Anthony work well as a punch sap, or for buying a solution to a problem)

Keep at least half a tank. Houston's evacuation from a hurricane was a mess and people couldn't get gas, either.

You're vehicle should be able to push another one out of the way, and be sturdy enough to cross a field or two.

Fix-a-flat cans are a lifesaver.

Keep a usable weapon - my work van has a full-size crowbar and a tile breaking bar - and a knife by the driver's doorsill.

My wife and work on opposite sides of town, so she has a similar kit, but smaller. We also have a series of prearranged meet points. Likewise my folks who watch out kids while we work. All the vehicles can take having to cross undeveloped land well. She also has an emergency walkie-talkie, as do I and my folks. We picked an not-often-used band for our communication.

I would say prepare for your food, water, sanitation and self-defense needs.

Canned food like ready to serve soups that contain water or canned broth would be good to stock to help cut down on your daily water needs. A rain barrel would be good to have, as well. If there is a river or small lake in your city, you may have to haul some water. Have a mountaineering backpack with some gallon jugs and a good supply of water filters and purification tablets.

Sanitation is often overlooked by survivalists. You must prepare for it.

Your home should be a hiding place and well protected. You will need a variety of deadly weapons (guns, knives, swords, and a crossbow) plus ammo. You will need to be very quiet in your home and the outward appearance should be that no one lives there. Be prepared to kill someone who tries to break in.

Don't trust anyone.

Keep trips outside to get things (like water) to a minimum. If you must go out, try to do it when no one will see you leave or re-enter.

Prepare a complete bug out bag in advance and have maps/compass. You may prefer to stay home and shelter in place, but it may become impossible. Be ready to bug out --- as necessary or as the situation changes.

Here's my take... GET OUT!!! Get out of the city as fast a humanly (And safely) possible! If the SHTF, cities are going to erupt in pure chaos and anarchy. This is no place for long-term survival. In the event that you are not instantly able to leave, you would want to shelter-in-place VERY inconspicuously. If you live in a brownstone, apartment condo etc... make sure that you have 7 to 10 days supply of food and water. Have a basic medial kit. Have a battery operated radio to keep abreast of goings-on. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a way to board up windows if you are on the first or second story of a building.

Pay very close attention to finding an opportunity to GET OUT!!! When that opportunity presents itself, do it! That will be your best chance for long-term survival.
