If it has been ... my apologies ...

Information Here

Text of the Privacy Act & Security Statement at cars.gov:

“This application provides access to the DoT CARS system. When logged on to the CARS system, your computer is considered a Federal computer system and is the property of the U.S. Government. Any or all uses of this system and all files on this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed to authorized CARS, Dot, and law enforcement personnel, as well as authorized officials of other agencies, both domestic and foreign.”

Wow. I am speechless... just wow.

I don't know if the Cash for Clunkers was specifically just so they could hack our computers.. I am fairly certain they do that anyways..

$19 million dollars for a little webpage like that? .. Noooo .. it was $19 million dollars for the spying software.

PS..... this is an excellent view into our future. This will be the new "normal"..

The page that Glenn Beck is accessing is the page that DEALERS go to when they're submitting a claim to the government for the Cash for Clunkers program.

Your standard consumer would never even see that page, nor have to accept the agreement that leads Beck to believe his computer has become property of the U.S. government. I'll try to find the article that explains this to add some validity to my statement.

EDIT:
www.glennbeck.com...

Thats a link to Glenn Beck's website that talks a bit more about this. In this interview I linked, it only talks about how someone from the dealership looking to process claims would be accessing this website. So, yes, while its still a scary prospect of accepting that kind of agreement, it wont be something that affects every user who goes or has went to the cars.gov website.

Car Allowance Rebate System

It's right under the logo in the top left corner of the cars.gov website.

But as far as the definition, I know, I was surprised too. A government acronym that actually describes something accurately.

a car manufactured to need replacing in 5-7 years (more if your lucky), or a vehicle that is made to run as long as it's maintained?

Interesting considering my three vehicles are American made, around 20 years old and two have a 1/2 million miles or more on them. I have no intention of replacing them any time soon. The newest replaced a vehicle with 600,000 miles and it was replace because someone totaled it. (actually a friend took it and it is still on the road)

The answer to the part about car dealers

Yes, only dealers may access this part of the website.
However, dealers still maintain information on people who bought cars from them such as:
Credit history
Bank Account information
SSN
Personal references (along with their home addresses and phone numbers)

Pretty much anything someone would need to commit identity theft.

The information will be available no matter if you participated in the program or not, if you bought a car from a dealer that is participating in the program your information is now property of the government and may be used and shared with domestic and foreign agencies.

You might want to check with a car dealer to see if this is true before you buy your next new car.
