I have been sitting quietly on the sidelines watching all of this national debate on healthcare. It is time for me to bring some clarity to the table by explaining many of the problems from the perspective of a doctor.

First off, the government has involved very few of us physicians in the healthcare debate. While the American Medical Association has come out in favor of the plan, it is vital to remember that the AMA only represents 17% of the American physician workforce.

I have taken care of Medicaid patients for 35 years while representing the only pediatric ophthalmology group left in Atlanta, Georgia that accepts Medicaid. For example, in the past 6 months I have cared for three young children on Medicaid who had corneal ulcers. This is a potentially blinding situation because if the cornea perforates from the infection, almost surely blindness will occur. In all three cases the antibiotic needed for the eradication of the infection was not on the approved Medicaid list.

The media does a wonderful job of portraying hospitals of where the poor go to die on the steps. Truth is it's better service than they portray.

I have a theory about the people who are pushing this HC reform (not the ones in power just the average joe on the street).

I figure they fit into one of these categories

1) They believe all the MSM lies and truly believe they are doing the right thing. These are the dangerous ones because they won't listen to logic or the truth because they are so believing of the crap they have been fed.

2) They want to stick it to the rich and to doctors because they are too lazy/stupid to ever go anywhere and figure no one else should excel. These are the ones who would chain the ballerinas. They believe that they need to make everyone else as miserable as them to make themselves feel better. These ones are a lost cause.

3) The last group are the ones who are pushing this because they believe they will be rewarded for there actions by the politicians. I suspect most of the Acorn ruffians are in this category.

A friend sent a link to myobama.com as portraying the "truth" and all other reporting was fear mongering.

There are always three sides to something, Your side, their side and the truth. Though, the truth lies closer to the anti government health care to me.

When TennCare was still in place for all TN residents, MANY doctors wouldn't accept it. The pediatrician my kids go to did not. he is considered the best in the area and who the doctors take their children to.

I would say due to experiences like this opthamologist had

I remember a couple of years ago there was a website with a list of doctors that had quit taking Medicaid, Medicare or even insurance of any kind because it there was so much red tape. The fees that charged were lower and they had payment plans for everybody. I would imagine that list is growing. I'll see if I can it again.
