I have to agree with what would seem the overall premise(s) of both Ashley's and Calihan's various missives and mentions.

Respect for others.

Do as you will. Exercise your right to the fullest legal extent possible. All the while Not impeding upon mine or those of others.

If Joe Blow from Idaho wants to grocery shop nude, have at it buddie
; I mean that.

Just don't let me catch him copping a "scratch" prior to thumping some melons to check for ripeness ... else they'll be dumping the entire bin, rest assured.

If the local law allows it, have at it, all the while being respectful of others.

Exercised in that manner, we probably wouldn't even be here right now discussing such... (?)

I disagree. I don't think people are tolerant enough for nudists to feel comfortable living their daily lives as nudists in public. So as of right now, I think we just cant tell.

I don't know WHY there is this conception that nudists are more likely to be rude, crude, or disrespectful. I have seen no statistics, no first hand accounts, nothing like that. I'm not talking about the flashers in Central Park. I'm talking about normal people who choose not to wear clothes.

Edit- If I had a dollar for every clothed man I've seen come out of the bathroom without washing his hands, or who's copped a scratch in public, I'd be able to pay for college easy.

That's why my mother always got so mad when I wouldn't wash my fruit! (dual meaning!!! total accident)

That was a great visual. I can certainly see where nudity requires the utmost consideration for your fellow citizens! I can also see restrictions such as we have now with dress codes. No shoes, no shirt, no service.

If your melons are free keep your hands off our fruit! or If your fruit is free keep your hands off our melons? Anyway, I get it!

What do you think is the average percentage of Americans that wash their hands after using the restroom.....................

Who knows what's on those melons.

In the spirit of that censorship standard, nudity in public should be ok, but not sex in public. That makes more sense to me, and I could support a law banning public sexual acts, but allowing free roaming nudists!

I agree. That makes much more sense to me as well.

Although it still isn't going to stop the dogging that goes on in the Park, but the risk of getting caught probably makes it all the more exciting for those types.

I just feel that if a community does not want to "deal with" this sort of thing, they need to make that clear in their laws. The two nudists in this down did nothing wrong, they weren't breaking any laws or codes, and they had every right to be nude in public according to local policy. If the town did not support that policy, they should have made that clear. This whole "Well we'll say we're okay with it, but when nudists show up we'll change the laws." is not fair to anyone. It makes things uncomfortable, and it's irresponsible thinking.

I think you hit the crux of the issue ravenshadow13!

A City Council wants to appear hip and progressive, so it passes a very liberal law protecting a right no one is happening to be exercising.

People think "Gosh, this city is so ahead of the times! I'm glad I live here!"

Then, when people start exercising that right, it becomes an inconvenient law that needs to be modified because it makes the City Council uncomfortable.

Then, a few years later, as more people begin exercising that right, even after the law was modified, the City Council gets more uncomfortable because the law has become even more inconvenient for them and they have to modify it even further.

All the while, the people in the City never really found it to be either uncomfortable or inconvenient and now are asking "Why is the City Council taking away more of our Rights? Those Fascist Nazis!"

It has created a rift and divide between the Constituents and the Elected Officials.

Laws are not meant for convenience. If you pass a law, then you best be sure that law is sound and that everyone can live with it, even when it isn't necessarily convenient anymore. Because if you back-peddle on a law protecting people's rights, even if no one uses those rights, you are going to start a back-lash because no one likes the government interfering in our lives and taking away our rights.

Even if laws were passed everywhere that said it's fine for everyone to be nude, I think the majority of people would still cover up.

Why? Because the majority of people dislike their bodies.

We would have to throw out all opinions of what is beautiful and not beautiful and stop judgeing everyone by their body shapes. I don't see that happening in this visually shallow world.

Though, a true nudist is doing it for their own sense of freedom and doesn't give a fig about what others think, the majority still has hang ups about getting judge, sneered at or ostracized.

Personally, I think it would be a bit unsanitary. I really wouldn't want to be sitting on seats and benches that peoples dirty bare butts sat on. Not everyone has good hygiene.

Still it amazes me that the majority of the posters who have replied to this thread support public nudity.

Each to their own I suppose, but I really don't want to sit in some other persons pubic hair or look at their dirty arse or smell their unclean vagina/penis.

I don't particulary want to look at anyone elses vagina apart from my partners thank you.

People can say what they want with regards to sexual criminals, I believe 100% that if everyone walked around naked then sex crimes would rise.

Definately! It's bad enough when their victims wear clothes, imagine what it would be like when everyone didn't?

What happened to protecting children? I can see that now, pervert walks down the street and sees a 6 year old boy with his "bits" hanging out. Sounds like a lovely temptation for that kind of person to me...

You pro-nudists imagine a perfect world, where everyone naked is just happily wearing no clothes.

Sorry people aint going to happen, I'm sure you will change your mind after seeing dirty arses, semen stained vagina's, smelly penise's and cellulite legs.

As said before I have no problem with like minded people having fun with whatever they do but please for the love of god don't impose it on the rest of us

People see porn as what sex is supposed to be like now. I swear, its like because guys saw it in a porn tape, they think you do all the same stuff! Its terrible to put all these false ideas of reality in the minds of people.

I couldnt agree more. Not only do they think you do all the same stuff, they think its how we like it all the time and we have to have it all the time because all the porn girls are doing it all the time. Now you can get porn on your cellphones.

Too bad everyone seems to be a nymphomaniac and all nudity has to be offensive or sexual.

I believe most people see it as sexual. You can even tell by some of the posts on this thread that its sexual.

I don't particulary want to look at anyone elses vagina apart from my partners thank you.

Your one of the few

I am not aginst it but I think most Americans male espically just couldn't handle it.

The problem with public nudity is that more often than not the ones who should leave their clothes on take them off.

The story, as far as the Original Post goes, has taken a new twist.

The City Council, after receiving a lot of attention and strife over this issue hired a Constitutional Lawyer last night to determine whether the current regulations against showing of genitalia in the downtown area or in the park is unconstitutional, and whether further restricting the law to expand that to within 2 blocks of a school (which is basically the entire city as there is no place not within 2 blocks of a school), would be unconstitutional after having a previous municipal law allowing it as a protected right.

It sounds like the City Council knows where the people will take this if they further restrict this.

Even the media has pointed out that this town has the most restrictive municipal codes against Public Nudity in our State, especially considering it was a protected right prior to 2004 in this town, and the City Council's is entire motivation is to polish it's image to Tourism.

City Hires Attorney Over Public Nudity Partial Ban

The funny thing is that apparently the law considers Nudity to be a Form of Expression, thereby protected under the 1st Amendment which protects Free Speech. I had no idea!

I cannot imagine sitting on a bus or train with standing room only, and having somebody's junk hanging in my face.

The filth and unhealthiness spread from having someone doing something as natural as passing gas while naked in a crowd is also revolting. Not to mention seeing their butt-cheeks rumbling as they pass it...

Rumbling butt cheeks?

I don't think people expressing their nudity are going to want to get on crowded buses either. They will probably enjoy strolling down the sidewalk instead. Unless they are perverts, and then any inappropriate rubbing or touching will get them arrested!!

Hi. I got the impression people on here don't support nudity but are merely aware of how much society has twisted our brains against what is natural. My evolved instincts tell me it's a bit nasty to look at some poeple but I know that's just due to conditioning.
