Evidently Jack Layton the head of the Candian NDP party has asked some of Obama's campaign managers to come this weekend and speak with his party on how to win an election.

Gil Troy, an American expert on presidential politics, who teaches history at McGill University in Montreal, also says there are vast ideological differences between the Obama White House and the more left-leaning NDP — a distinction that may not be understood by some U.S. Democrats.

If the NDP and its policies were better known in Washington, he says, politicians would likely shy away from publicly befriending it, for fear of provoking accusations by their conservative critics of having cozy friendships with socialists.

"Obama and his people are lucky that Americans ignore Canada and are ignorant about Canadian politics," says Troy. "I can imagine how much fun the Fox News crowd would have with this news, playing it up as if it showed that Obama had ties to the (Communist) Internationale."

Also the NDP (New Democratic Party) is thinking of changing it's name to the Democrat Party. Unfortunately this could be a problem as the Abreviation of the Democrat Party in French is PD which is a slang term for a something impolite.

Interesting. Obama does know how to run a campaign (if nothing else). Of course he did have help from 95% of the MSM who were openly campaigning for him as well. And he wasn't afraid to make lots of promises.

I find it interesting that the Obama campaign crew is forging these ties with the NDP and Layton. I have close ties with both nations and watch both sets of politics. The Canadian Liberal party is more philisophically closer to Obama and the democrat's stated goals and platforms. While the NDP refers to itself as having a European style socialist platform and was formed in 1932 as a coalition of Communist and Socialist groups.

It's a non-issue. The NDP may be able to win provincial elections but they will never be able to carry the country. You have to carry Ontario to win and after the last NDP provincial gov't here they will NEVER be more than a third party.

I've seen Jack Layton in person and he seemed kind of slimey, kind of like the used car salesmen type. He makes lots of promises and never wants to talk about how to pay for them other than to tax Alberta to pay for social programs in Ontario.

I agree, I just figure they are changing the name and trying to ride Obama's coat tails to get more votes. They either need Ontario (outside of Toronto) or they need Quebec. Both of those are only slightly more likely than Calgary voting a full slate of NDP canidates into office.

It's ironic and appears they are both riding some coat-tails, especially with the government ran health care system. I hope Canada doesnt start up the printing presses.

When I first read this I thought of the North American Union. Obama seems to deal with both Mexico and Canada quite frequently.

The Obama administration has an awesome strategy for winning. basically it's this:

pro Technology Advancement
Support from the youth
Internet presence
friendly voice
clarity claims
pro-progress

Unfortunately their administration has done none of the above, but eh, it works.

I thought it was funny that he is meeting with the party with the lowest # of seats and the least chance of winning an election.

It's a fact that Obama knows how to win an election. His main support came promising things to the far left, promising other things to the labor unions, promising things to the elderly, promising other things to the youth, and promising things to the environmental group.

They're stacked one upon the other like bricks.

Now he's losing many of the elderly, many of his far left, and with the economy tanking, he's even losing support among a lot of union members.

So while he may be able to show how to win an election, it appears he's about to demonstrate very clearly how to lose an election.
