'Public Option' in Health Plan May Be Dropped

www.nytimes.com

PHOENIX — The White House, facing increasing skepticism over President Obama’s call for a public insurance plan to compete with the private sector, signaled Sunday that it was willing to compromise and would consider a proposal for a nonprofit health cooperative being developed in the Senate.

Now they are talking about dropping the "Public Option" from the Obamacare Bill. I'm sure all the angry folks showing up at these town hall meetings had something to do with it. Politicians want to keep their jobs, and many will get voted out if it passes. But, the President still says "You can't have Health Care Reform without the Public Option." He said the Public Option is not the "entirety" of Health Care Reform. Just one sliver of it. I'll bet the rest of that sliver is to tax peoples current Private Health Care Plans.

Personally, I think they should do an unfunded mandate, complete with severe penalties for not purchasing insurance and put everyone in their place.

ya, that will probably be all there is to it, too....

unless you qualify for medicaid, medicare, or the like, you must buy the insurance, weather you can afford it or not!!
don't matter if the insurance is crap and does you no good, don't matter if it takes the roof over your head....don't matter if you are unemployed or opt to be a stay at home mom, and have no employer helping you out.
buy the insurance!!
nothin will be done to get the cost of that insurance down, nothing will be done to get the actual cost of the healthcare down....

just force the people to be consumers of the insurance companies.....

hope they know, if I decide that my body isn't gonna take the work I do anymore, well....ain't gonna matter if they write the stupid law or not, I ain't working...and well, if they can't get the cost down enough that you don't have have an employer paying the bulk of the cost, well....more than likely, I won't be insured...and then well, they can fine me, and throw me into jail for not paying the fine if they like!

another gift to the healthcare industry.....with next to nothing for the average american who needs the healthcare...
watch it will pass, and soon after, all the insurance will raise their rates (why not, you will have to buy it regardless!!), and then well they will pass around the loot.....in forms of doubled salaries and bonuses to their upper tiers of management!

nothing changes, same ole, same ole....

Jail! A roof over your head, three meals a day and no bills, That's Un-American!

My Question is, What happens to Homeless People? Is that what the FEMA Camps are for?

It is simple. Obama should set up a health department to oversee the medical treatment of the poor and the unemployed. He should hire doctors and nurses to care for the poor. The department would be bare bones most of the money would go into the salaries of the medical personel and the treatments. If the health department developed a good reputation for high quality inexpensive care , the government would not need to force people with money to use their medical services. There are so many wasteful and unpopular government agencies which could stand to be cut inorder to see to it the poor and the unemployed had descent medical care.

I doubt they will ever be able to water this bill down to the point where it will gain broad acceptance.

Healthcare looks likely to go the way of border controls, a pure status quo - resulting in happy insurance companies, and happy illegals.

Don't we have a Czar for that? You want Obama to hire Doctors and Nurses? Where is this mysterious "most of the money" going to come from? As you said, there are so many wasteful and unpopular government agencies, what makes you think that creating another one would help the problem?

How about that expensive war on drugs? Then there is all the money imprisoning people on trumped up drug charges. Let's not forget about space toilets. We are also putting tax money into government kid napping rings. I don't see a purpose in hiring IRS agents to go after people who make less than twenty thousand dollars a year. We are also paying people to spy on people who buy lab equipment. I could go on forver.

Exactly my point! All these things you mention are Government Programs, they have all Failed...You want them to start another one? Let's just get rid of the one's we've got first, then pay down some of the National Debt. If we have money left over, then maybe The Congress and Senators can take some time and come up with a reasonable, rational, sane program, that they have all read , and bring it to Town Hall meetings first, and see how the people react to it, and if the people agree, we can go ahead and pass the bill. But your dealing with Washington, so this will never happen.

If the public option goes, America's chances of ever getting significant health care reform will probably be gone forever too.

Government-sponsored health care, with subsidies for those who cannot afford it, could compete so successfully for customers that the existing insurance companies would have to lower their premiums and insure more people with more pre-existing conditions than ever before. Health care providers would also have to negotiate with the government and that would keep their costs down.

I personally favor a single-payer plan (OMG - socialism!) but that probably isn't going to happen. Create a program like Medicare that covers the whole population. Cheapest and most effective way to go. The rest of the industrialized world has similar programs, but not America -- Oh no, not ever America!

I'm afraid the Obama administration may very well back down on the government option, they may feel they have no choice because of all the opposition. But it would be a disastrous defeat for the average people of this country.

That's just fantastic. Democrats are rolling over AGAIN!

They have a majority in both houses and the presidency and they still forfeit the game every time the Republicans play hardball.

It's really not that hard to realize that if they show time and time again that they are politically impotent, the left will abandon them for a third party which will end up throwing elections in favor of Republicans. They never learn...
