As a nation we are screwed.

We let this happen though. The lobbyists have taken our voice away.

The military industrial complex is stealing all our extra wealth.

The media is blowing so much crap at us no one knows whats what.

I cant see any way out short of a revolution. It all just stinks.

How do you actually see our (americans) ignorance towards other nations, and "ways of doing things"?

can you give us some examples other than calling protesters of somthing that shouldnt concern you morons?

I am just curious because most of us only have the option to pay the people that do things any certain way. How are we responsible for them, other than choosing a wrong candidate?

America is a country of all nations, Britian France Sweden etc etc.. why are we not that?

You might be right. They might just be the minority. I'm not entirely sure. However, if you're getting most of your intel from ATS on how Americans feel, you're definitely getting a somewhat skewed picture. I've never been around so may far right and religious opinions in my life and I am an American.
What does surprise me is that many Americans do not see the difference between a Political ideology and an economic one (as you alluded to). It's really sad. We are a Constitutional Republic. That is supposed to be how our country is run. Whether we use pure capitalist or socialist economic engines or somewhere in between (probably the smarter way) is another story.

this seems like a rant to me.

Canadians are great, however you come off like your disdain for Americans is something unique, while in my personal experiences (work with a lot of them) Canadians are quite smug (exactly how you come off) about how there country and country's people are vastly superior to us "children" as you put it.

a good rant is good for the soul every now and then, helps ya get some things off your chest, unfortunately nothing came out of your post other then the "put a sock in it" mentality, which i have no respect for.

To each his own...

You call us intellectually bankrupt, but then you falsely assume that nationalized healthcare is the only way all the sick people can get treatment and such. As if there are no other options, no better way of doing things?

And at the same time you falsely assume that if someone is against these things, that they simply do not care about other people, or that they do not want people to get healthcare?

That is intellectually bankrupt. All you did was post and say I think you are ignorant because you don't agree with me and my country. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

I agree.

And since they've already passed legislation exempting themselves from Obamacare "Reform" why should any body else even think it is on the level?

Some of them are too lazy. They don't care what happens in the real world so long as their shows are on, they have food on the table, etc. Which hasn't help the boat we're in now. It's made it worse, and by the time the people realized how much they lost, how much more they stand to lose, it's probably too late to get the country back.

The govt has set itself up a nice protective barrier to make even it's citizens look like terrorists if they stand up for their rights while nearly every damn politician in the US should be tried for treason.

Should we trust a government that either orchestrated 9/11, or permitted it to happen to thrust us into a war nobody wanted?

Should we trust a govt. that I - and thousands others - believe assassinated it's own president - or, at the very least, allowed him to be slain in broad daylight?

Between those points and possible guinea pigs in vaccination hell, I for one can't find any reason to view the US govt anything other than an encroaching monster.

I'd be extremely surprised if we all weren't expendable.

On another note, and perhaps something for a different thread all together... Given the extent to which the Insurance Co.s, Big Pharma and Big Medical are so obviously and deeply entrenched with well-funded lobbyists on Capital Hill, does any one think for one minute they would be supporting this, OR EVEN allowing it to see the light of day, IF it weren't in one way or another in their best interest(s)? That they would allow it to even reach the point of further discussion, debate? ... if they haven't already figured a means by which to capitalize (profit) off the same?

They absolutely support it. I just posted a thread dealing with that here.

On topic:

Criticizing Americans and tossing out blanket labels such as 'ignorant' puts you on about the same level as those who you feel wronged you by mislabeling your country's practices. My two cents.

Britain and United States may be brothers, but we are drastically different. Thank god.

If that's what you're getting taught over there, then thank God indeed!

Yes. The United States escaped from Britain due to a socialistic system.

King of Great Britain was forcing religion, implemented high taxes without representation, and used military power to keep people in line.

After reading over the list again, maybe we left due to communism. That's just as bad.

look , we are born into this world, we have no say, we do as we are told and conform .from the cradle to the grave, if we don,t conform then we find we are guided in the negative direction.
which is right ?,communism, democracy,if your a conservative the few will try to convince the rest that tory is best, labour ,liberal
the leaders where you are born control all the import that makes you who you are, thats why most from their own country defends what has been instilled within.
if the leaders of the world met up to delegate, and try to convince each other that THEIR WAY IS THE RIGHT WAY, no one would be convinced otherwise, and so go their own way.unchanged
which is the right way?well if our leaders are selfish then we are their guinea pigs, the responsibility rests with them, but they don,t care.
religion is control ,again conform, the masses are controlled by the few, this is organising .living on this earth we contribute which allows the control of all for the benefit of all, but that does not quite happen, our bias is our ignorance. if the universe opened up to all its presence and our eyes (mind become open) we would all come together in harmony our experience i believe would unite and change all of our views, but then again i could be where are my habits???

In one person's eyes, everyone else is either crazy or retarded.

It's like when you're driving, the person that's faster than you is a maniac and the person slower than you can't drive.

All I want is change, because our current institutions, including health care, suck. Health care reform good? We'll keep it. Bad? We'll fix it or go back to the old system. You may say that we shouldn't take risks, but Americans have the entrepreneur passion, spirit, or whatever you call it.

What's the worst that could happen within the next 5 years? We live like the Chinese? So what? Swine Flu kills a lot of us? Well were like the a flu, our population rebounds at command.

What I don't understand is how our military can afford to build huge underground bases and test god-knows-what, politicians get to set their own salaries, and bankers get bailouts so they can spend it on a jet plane, but I had to go to Elementary School in a place where the septic tank blew up every other day and their were 30 kids in a classroom. We are 11,681,717,087,238 dollars and 58 cents in debt as of today. Why the hell can't some of that go to schools? Where IS all that money going. Its an amount I can't even picture, and it's probaly not going to where it should be going. The USA is so big its been been straining itself with the load its been carrying, by its own stupid choice. And I think the pressure may cause it to snap sometime soon.

It says every single person would have to pay 38,081 dollars and 82 cents to pay the debt off. Screw that, maybe they can pry the 82 cents out of my cold, dead hands.

I'm American and DAMN proud of it. Please don't put us all in to one category.

Americans have absolutely no concept of how good they have it and are even more ignorant (if that's possible) of even the simplest government policies of their neighbors.

Again you're generalizing. The majority are NOT like this. You're seeing a LOUD minority and assuming it's a majority. IT'S NOT.

Every time I hear Americans call their president, and worse, their fellow Americans, socialists in a derogatory manor, I cringe and bite my lip.

These individuals are in the minority, typically republican and idiots.

Believe it or not, America is in the minority in being against social initiatives, most notably, health care.

Most Americans are actually FOR restructuring of our BROKEN health care system.

The rest of the developed world is not "imploding" under the stress of "socialist rule", we're happy the way things are and in fact we even voted these policies into law, democratically!

Good for you. I mean this sincerely

Canada, Briton, France, Sweden, etc, etc, etc. are all proud of the governments we've all helped to establish and maintain and I'll be damned if a bunch of Yankees tell me it's all a sham and destined for failure and bankruptcy.

Keep in mind these naysayers are in the minority and have an AGENDA that involves self serving interests and these same people couldn't care less about their fellow Americans. These people I consider to be traitors to both their country and it's Constitution.

Social democracies are not built on totalitarian rule, we are not slaves to our respective governments and we will not be categorized as such.

Good for you !

All these "Americans" holding up signs of president Obama with a Hitler mustache and equating him with Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Hitler himself at these town hall meetings are idiots beyond help.

These are what's known as republican pawns.

They are not "patriots", they're ignorant morons

When the elections in America were still being held, I'll admit, I cared who won. I cared because, like it or not, American policies shape the world and I genuinely care about the welfare of the people of our planet as a whole.

The planet needs more people like you with your attitude.

I hoped that Obama would win because, at the time, he seemed to me as the world's best possible hope for, at the very least, a de-escalation in tensions world round.

True. Let me also mention that everyone I know was actually concerned that the bush administration would pull a Coup d'état and refuse to leave office. People were legitimately concerned this would create another civil war. These were DANGEROUS people in office and Americans as a whole breathed a si of relief when both bush and darth cheney quietly and quickly left office.

After he took office, I'll also concede, I was disappointed in his lack of initiative.

Give him a chance. He's trying to lift a house with a paper clip. The bush administration left our country in shambles and it will take YEARS to fix all the damage they caused.

He said he would end the "war on terror" and he's done nothing of the sort.

He's closing gitmo
He's removing troops from iraq. You know the illegal war that bush started.
And also, he can't force the bad guys to stop attacking us and our allies without a war.

If anything he's scaling it up and taken Canadian and British troops, amoung many others, with him on his fruitless, imperialist conquests. I am not a supporter of Barack Obama, nor many of his policies, but he was and still is, the lesser of two evils.

One thing that must be understood is that these terrorists don't just want us out of "their" country, "their" region, "their" area of the world, these terrorist want of DEAD. How do you negotiate with someone who will only be happy when you don't exist?

I am in support, however, of Obama's push for socialized health care in America. Not because I'm a brainwashed communist dog, but because I firmly believe that everyone alive deserves the right to medical care whenever they need it, no exceptions.

I completely agree with you 10000000000000000%. Health care should be a RIGHT regardless of income.

The reality is that the majority of Americans are NOT happy with their health care as the republicans claim.
You have a segment of the population which has no health care.
Then you have another segment that has emergency only health care.
Then you have another segment that has insufficient health care for their needs.
When you add up all these segments, you'll find that the majority of Americans have either non-existent health care or insufficient health care. Now here's the ironic part. You know who has the best health care in the US? Our representatives. Do they pay for their health care? NO WE DO ! Is it too much to ask for the same care they're getting at our expense? If we have to pay our own, maybe they need to pay their own. Let's see how long they'll complain about a national health care system then !

America is not the only country in the world, what you say does reach people outside of your boarders and quite frankly a large chunk of you come off as children, and that's being generous.

Again, you're seeing the all to vocal minority and assuming we're all like that. We're not like those ignorant fools shouting at the town hall meetings. Most Americans are intelligent enough to know those people have agendas that are not in America's best interests.

Good thread ! Starred and flagged but understand you're talking about a minority of idiots. We're not all stupid ok?

That's the issue.

The US government is trying to police and control the world on the backs of 145,000,000 taxpayers.
That's 2% of the worlds population.

Never mind the 155-175,000,000 non taxpayers who are expecting to be taken care of.

We've also got a constant outflow of cash and aid to other countries that is in the hundreds of billions every year and every time there is an attempt to pull in the reigns on this giant roller coaster of world wide spending we are derided and ridiculed as being selfish greedy rich monsters.

If we try to slow it down here at home we're reviled and ridiculed as being mindless ignorant scum but they still make sure to keep on grabbing more taxes and demanding more concession and bigger government bloat.

When is enough enough?

Yes, apparently the Canadian national health system is doing great, based on today's headlines. Whenever I hear how out-of-step the US is compared to the rest of the world, I remember with a smile my favorite bumper sticker from the 1970s - "Eat Crap. Six Trillion Flies Can't Be Wrong".

I find it kind of funny that the post directly below this one on the main page says "Canadian Health Care System Imploding"

"The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country's health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it.

Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made.

"We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

"We know that there must be change," she said. "We're all running flat out, we're all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands."

And yet your calling us ignorant that we don't know what's going on in the countries around us. It would appear that you don't even know what's going on in your own country.

I am laughing so hard at you it's making me cry.

First off, I don't really care what you think about us, you don't live here.
Second before you go putting Mr. Obama up on an alter to pray to, perhaps you may want to examine what he himself said prior to his election and then examine what he has done....IT IS THE POLAR OPPOSITE.

Did you ever consider that the people protesting the town hall meetings are just fed up with being lied to, cheated, robbed, and made fools of? Perhaps, just perhaps, they have finally opened their eyes.

I said it here on a post almost two years ago that I thought the one thing that could possibly awaken the sleeping giant was an economic collapse. Just maybe with 15% of the population without a job or working less than 20 hours a week, the people have finally awoken.

I think your going to see it get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

Several years ago I was reading a book about US/Canadian relations and differences. The author quoted a Canadian sociologist (as I recall) as saying: "People immigrate to the US to stand out. People immigrate to Canada to fit in". I'm not sure that we will ever really understand each other, despite our common language and history. Please understand however, that very, very few Americans want this nation to become like Canada.
