Why is Christianity so hated?

I wouldn't say I am looking for a scape goat or that I am a bigot. I never said I hated modern Christians or Christianity in general. What I am getting at is what I have observed throughout my life. If any thing, I would hope the people that say they are Christians would follow the gospels and try to adhere to those teachings in an earnest way. They know what's right and what's wrong. I feel sorry for the ones that say they follow a specific religion yet do nothing in observance of that religion. They ought to become atheists or change their beliefs. Why live a lie? I am not bigoted to any religious denomination and I feel all have redeeming qualities for mankind. I hope I answered your question, Vince.

OT? No. Stormdancer777 posted a quote to encapsulate her/his opinion. This quote says human sexuality is far far more complex than Christianity would acknowledge.

Christianity is a bundle of pagan symbols, beliefs, and rituals.

Yeah, I agree, most bleating we hear from Christians is unsubstantiated opinion, repeated from barely understood sources, often out of context in the 1st place & as often barely relevant in the current context. Worse, when any of it's questioned, all we get is scripture. As if some words have more authority than others merely by dint of having been written in a particular book, ie we're not supposed to use our critical thinking on certain texts because they're perforated... er, I mean holy.

That is a sad story where a man and his daughter can be a prisoner in their own country by those they have kinship with. However, they chose a religious leaning of the minority and walked away from Islam. Apparently, the man and his daughter have their reason for the social shift from the status-quo and remain resolute amid the threats of persecution. I commend the father for standing up for what he believes in. As you stated, JJ, this is pure unadulterated hate. It's scourge to modern civilization and is an unwelcome throwback to the Dark Ages.

But you asked a general question, so here's a general answer.

One of the doctrines of Christianity is to 'spread the word'. Here in lies the irritation with many people. If we are secure in our own beliefs we do not want someone preaching at us. Anyone who gets in my face and tries to make me one of the flock just plain irritates me. I just want to be left alone and free to believe as my heart tells me.

So, basically, worship the way you want but stop trying to force others to the same. If Christians didn't have that whole 'spread the word' ideology, things would be great.

Question- How strong should someone be before they just give out? How about a cancer patient- who's entire being is used to fight the cancer- It's mean and cruel to tell such a person at the point of death to 'not give up, and fight, be strong'

There's nothing to fight with. There's no strength left, and Christians, instead of helping, sit back, smirk and tell you "Don't worry- Nonexistent Deity will GIVE you strength'. It's just another tool in their toolbox of irresponsibility. As someone who has fought, and tried, and done all he can do- it's been a losing battle of epic and truly horrific proportions. I have been spit on and laughed at, all in the 'name of god'. Women have been especially cruel in that respect.

And ya know what- I will have both Christians AND women jump all over me and telling me to either go to hell, or I am headed in that direction- And not a single one will even DARE look at how they act and think. They will all be perfectly happy- safe and secure in knowing their god supports them.

Amazing.... simply amazing.

It is a good sign that people are more and more seeing through these marketing scams. In the past, social religion served a very valuable purpose. It helped to reinforce the concept of being a good person and facilitated social order. But this was not because the leaders were noble. It was because they new that that angle would sell and people who are degraded tend to either be competitors or poor funding sources or allies in the deception. They don't want a world full of allies, they have no use for poor funders (so they put them on welfare or in prison so the good funders can pay their way) and they don't want competition thinning out the profits. Of course, the noble qualities where their to make things look good, while behind the scenes where always a host of criminal activities. Today, pandora's box is open and all manner of nonsense is taking place. But along with it is a more genuine awakening which is being handled in the most merciful manner possible.

I totally agree with you Violet Sky, this is the big problem, isn't it? For me, I don't care what a person's religion is, whether they wear a cross or a pentagram, or a Star of David, or a "Jesus Saves" tee shirt. that is their business, and theirs alone. I am very secure in my "faith," my "beliefs," both relative terms, but I know what I know and I will not be turned by a self styled preacher in a shiny suit with a hangman's noose about the neck called a tie.

LOL. No one is forcing you to do anything. And if you were secure in what you believed in , it wouldn't bother you that someone was advertising something else.

I work in Downtown Chicago, I can't stand those idiot Greenpeace and The Greens and Amensty International volunteers passing out pamphlets and doing surveys , asking for money, etc.. . yet I would never in a million years besmearch them for their right to engage in such things.

In a Free Country people will try to influence their fellow man , as it should be.

You should be grateful you live in a country where this can happen and not in one where it is forbidden.

I really do understand what you are saying. I have also been around people who sin every night of the week, gossip and backbite all through the week, and then show up on Sunday, as a deacon or choir member, etc., acting holier than thou. It's unfortunate, but there will always be people like that. I just try to pray for them and ask Jesus to help them see that what they are doing is wrong. It's really what is in your heart, Jesus knows our hearts and our thoughts! Please don't let it make you bitter. There are many good people, also!

I have a VERY simple answer.


Because it is often used as a crutch, or justification..

I've never seen anyone ever teach that Christians should hate those people. So you're making that up to.

Telling someone they're going to hell is just them expressing their view based on what the Bible says. They are not sending anyone to hell. Plus if you don't even believe in it, who cares.

More than just a single man and his daughter. Islamic law states that no one can convert to Christianity. It's the law and the penalty is death. This is run by the government in 57 countries.
