Obama's Biggest Health Reform Blunder
How Big Pharma's Billy Tauzin conned the White House out of $76 billion.

www.slate.com...

Billy Tauzin, president of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, has cut a secret deal on health reform with the White House. Tauzin told Tom Hamburger of the Los Angeles Times that in exchange for the much-touted $80 billion in savings that PhRMA volunteered in June to help cover the uninsured and reduce drug prices for some senior citizens, the White House had promised to block any congressional effort to allow the government to negotiate Medicare drug prices. Tauzin is from Louisiana, where tall tales grow like weeds, and at first his assertion seemed wildly implausible. But two days after the L.A. Times scoop, the New York Times got White House confirmation. "The president encouraged this approach," White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina said in an e-mail. "He wanted to bring all parties to the table to discuss health insurance reform."

Yahoo! Buzz FacebookMySpace Mixx Digg Reddit del.icio.us Furl Ma.gnolia SphereStumbleUponCLOSEPresident Obama's handshake with Tauzin is easily the dumbest mistake he's made in shepherding health reform through Congress.

I think this is important

Doig has been outspoken in her criticism. Whether you are happy or not is your own business.

We choose not to make Canada's experience ( see Obama's own protestations) our own.

OK:

While most Canadians - 80 per cent according to Statistics Canada - are satisfied with their access to the health care system, many experience long waits to see a specialist, get diagnostic tests and undergo elective surgery. Others find themselves facing huge bills for prescription drugs they need to survive.

www.cbc.ca...

So are we going by Doig's word or the other 26,000,000 Canadians that are satisfied with the system?

We choose not to make Canada's experience ( see Obama's own protestations) our own.

jw

Secondly, from the same article:

The ruling has impact only on Quebec, but it could eventually lead to some of the biggest changes since former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas was credited with fathering medicare. Most Canadians take government-funded health care for granted today, but when it was first introduced in Saskatchewan in 1962, most of the province's doctors responded by going on strike to protest against "creeping socialism."

Sound familiar? Fear. But now we have a system that 4/5 of the population are cool with.

I am so sick of the united states systems. I am so stressed out yet I can't get a DR so I can get high blood pressure pills or for my bi-polar depression.
Instead I have to simply be on disablity because without any therapy or medication I can't work due to headaches, dizzy spells, memory loss etc.
I can't get a therapist, DR or any help because no one seems to be taking medicare/medicaid at the time.
We have an overworked, too expensive system that is failing us due to GREED. Health should NEVER Be about profit.

Just as another member, I'm sorry to hear that you are going through such grief. I don't know how the system works where you are, but you might consider getting a hold of your state or federal representative's office and tell them of your circumstances.

It should be the role of somebody in government to make sure that your needs are met...surely at this time when there is such a debate on the subject and so many folks come forth to say nobody gets left behind.

Start making calls, and be polite and patient, and if your lawmaker's office can't help, ask them to forward you to somebody who can. Systems and bureaucracies are tough to negotiate, but often pay off if you are persistant.

Good luck!!

A quick edit to say that if you let us know your city, perhaps some of the proponents of the existing system can help you to stickhandle (excuse the hockey metaphor, but I am Canadian, eh?) your way to a situation for yourself. Can Team ATS come to the rescue?

... So, 'Canadians' have spoken. I can't make your doctors say something other than what they think.

Elect different doctors;

or just take this pill,
lay back,
close your eyes and think nice thoughts.

It'll be alright in just a minute.

It will be if you begin to see logic. It's OK, the reader see the truth AND the fear from the dissenting arguments.

1st., the CMA is an electicve, representative body made up of Canadian doctors. Exclusively. What else about CANADA do I have to explain to you?

B. Did you see the USA live broadcast by Dr.Doig this morning? No? If not, read above.

If so, "I told you so."

Well if you are going to lecture me on anything, let alone Canada, you might want to use proper English and better syntax. This reads the WE should elect doctors:

Did you miss the part where I pointed out that 4/5 of Canadians are satisfied with our system? Hmmm?

"WE" didn't elect the CMA.

Refute Dr. Doig's statement on NATIONAL TV!

"4/5" are sheep:

Lay your head right down hrere. This is good for you. This won't hurt a bit.

You are just a silly internet troll. You are just trying to fear monger and spread your lies. You want our system to seem some kind of little cesspool, when it has been pointed out 80% of us like the system.

You have no idea what goes on up here, so in the words of your fellow right wing, protectionist, know it all American couter-parts, butt out!

Edit to add:
just because 80% of us like the system does not make it sheep. I could say the same for you. You have fallen under the propaganda of the drug and insurance companies, it is you who is fact the sheep.

Condescension is the sign of a weak argument. Poor tactic.

Edit: For proper syntax.

So we have a poster (look up)...Dreamseeker...that has trouble navigating the system that you hold so dear. Instead of mouthing platitudes over something you don't understand, why don't you put your impressive googling talents to work and try to help out a fellow American? Of course...that would be a positive step, for a change...

Johnny , I am sorry for the accident and wish you well.

The grownups here are discussing a report by the current and incoming
presidents of the CMA. This report seems to says that maybe the US shouldn't be so eager to copy it for their new system.

Nobody said anything bad about Canada.

Nobody said anything about your system or the NHS.

Your own doctors have been quoted with their own perceptions.

Now, go back to sleep. Canada is still great. Canada Forever!

Relax. Close your eyes. Go to sleep.

You speak of the CMA as if it is an elected body of lawmakers.

It is a lobby group. It wants their exec to make them rich. I have been a union negotiator. You go for the stars, and hope you get the moon. Management works in the same manner. Do you honestly think that lobby groups and PACs work on any different basis?

You ignored the piece I posted refuting these 'myths'. You ignore the first-person account of members here telling you that you are wrong. You refuse the opportunity to help out a compatriot. Frankly the only thing threatening to put me to sleep is your boring insistence on offering up the same old right-wing clap trap.

Like I've said, do what you want, but leave us out of it. Hassle the Brit's instead, but I don't think they'll be as polite as us Colonials.
