The best forum communities I have ever used catered to the liberal mindset and ran off conservatives & religious loonies. It is a shame ATS can't do the same. The fact is (proven scientifically) that conservatives are not open to differing viewpoints. In fact the more evidence they are presented with the firmer their twisted stance becomes. This site has a conservative christian cabal that almost renders it useless.

Opposition to free speech is always scary. Opposition always leads to oppression.

The Soviet Union had a one Party system. That worked out well. Why not come out of the closet and admit you want controlled speech and religion eliminated. Your not exactly hiding it now.

Hmmmm, what would your ideal site look like?

John - " I hate Republicans and Independents"

Jane - "Me too".

George - "Me too"

John - "I hate Christians"

Ed - "Me too"

Sally - "Me also"

Fred - " Yes, lets get rid of them all"

John - "I think only people who voted for Obama should be allowed to speak"

Jane - "Your right, they should not be allowed to vote either"

John - "Yes, we should control everything, they are to stupid to vote or have an opinion".

Sally - "Exactly right" "I hear they all think they should have the right to free speech" "What a horrible idea" "Lets burn all the churches down and see how they like that"

John - "I've got the matches"

Oh, and I guess if that makes me a Right Wing Nutjob, Republican, or what ever else you have to say. So be it.
I call myself a true American.

And what exactly is a TRUE AMERICAN? I would love to read your definition, even though I guess what you'll say.

As a conservative, I'd have to agree with the OP. The difference between a conservative and a "right-winger" may be fairly subjective, but there is a difference. William F. Buckley was a conservative, Sarah Palin is a right-winger. [...] Wing-nut threads would die a natural death if no responses were made.

I don't tipically respond just saying "I agree with you", but I have to say it, yours is the most intelligent post I've read in a long time. You're a true conservative and I salute you, and this comes from a centrist (with some leftist leanings) who shares a lot of your conservative ideals. Well said Sir.

Well that didn't make matters any better,

So a right wing nut job can't have a valid opinion either I suppose?

So you see someone as a RWNJ, so you will discount everything they say?

Humans are strange.

Although you didn't direct your question to me, let me give you my definition of a true American.
I believe that true Americans respect the right of all citizens to express their opinions. I believe that they should express their views, and give others the opportunity to debate civilly. I believe that true Americans should not complain about their government if they were eligible to vote , but did not vote if they had the ability to vote. I believe that anyone who does not want other people's views to be heard, is not a true American. I believe that true Americans will work to better the country, not destroy it. I also believe that true Americans should learn the history of this country, learn what is in the Constitution, what rights they have, and learn what sacrifices those before them have made to keep this country free.

I also believe that true Americans should put their country and its citizens ahead of any political party, lobbyist, or political organization. I believe that we should work to elect those people who are also true Americans, according to the above definition, and work to get those that are not true Americans out of the government.

So do we, but shush, don't tell anyone ... folks get very upset when they learn that their rigid ideology is fed to them to believe otherwise.

No doubt.

Where are all the people who believe in Individual Freedoms? The freedom to marry whoever you want. The freedom to believe whatever you want. The freedom to put in your body, whatever you want.

If you don't support individual freedoms, then I would say you are not an American, regardless of your party affiliation.

I would go as far as to call myself a right wing extremist

American, Patriot, Veteran, and I believe the ones that break the constitution should be tried for treason and worse case scenario the punishment for treason still has death on the law books. And if that's right wing, then by god im as right wing as they come.

Constitutional law and no other.

We lost our Republic form of government, the only trace of it now is the remnants of "to the republic" in our pledge of allegiance.

Americans should take it back, by any means necessary

You here one voice because the is the way of the right wing... They have fewer outlets, these outlet service more people and as always, WINNING is more important than truth or debate. Thats why you see 90% - 95% of people opposed to any sort of healthcare reform (despite the fact that they are ripped off) fail to even understand that all the proposals would utilize the current systems structure.

For example the right wing, with a straight face mind you, has actually asserted that old people will be euthanized
- With a straight face people say this

What is even more frightening is that many people believe this... They are so easily manipulated that they buy the whole package of LIES. MANY of these "INDEPENDENT"
people on here seem to believe the same stuff...

Despite the right vocally being all about "independence" - there is very little in the way of intellectual independence. An entire mass of people is ripe for manipulation as we
saw during the elections, or better yet before the war in IRAQ... Hell you can see during the 2004 election the same thing - A Chicken hawk attacking an actual war HERO ( by the armed forces standards).

Once again the same manipulation applied to the same sheep... This time it the HC CORPORATIONS that are spear heading the effort to brain wash the wooly people.

Many of these letters and GATHERINGS are being spear headed and funded by BIG HEALTH - BIG DRUG AGENTS - they use the same people over, and over...

IF any of these ATS "independents and patriots" actually cared about the constitution they would care just as much about CORPORATE DOMINANCE- But as suspected they never want to discuss or address that ever in regards to the healthcare (one way) debate. This indicates that they really DO NOT care for the country or are hopelessly programmed by propaganda.

Anyhow at the end of the day this country will not endure - the shift from the middle class to the uber rich accelerates exponentially - a real patriot would think ahead, drop
the rhetoric propaganda and envision what will happen when the middle class is gone.
At the end of the day this is an effort to address American concerns and to patch the bleeding of middle class and small business "blood".

Anyhow - There is a reason many British CONSERVATIVES think American ones are ridiculous -

We will go the way of MEXICO at the hands of your pride and notions

SOCIALISTISMS and real Amerikans

Yes, especially the dissidents and other undesirables who worked out extremely well - to the death - in the Gulag.

I quite like the notion of that. Where can I sign up?

Not sure I've got a huge amount new to add - but I'll give my 2cents.

I've been around about 5yrs now so I've watched lots of theads and trends here over the years. You should have seen this place during the Bush years. You could have substituted "Left" for "Right" in your thread and post back then. Of course, there were some posts back then that basically said what you did with "Left" substituted for "Right".

Anyway, the very nature of ATS is to question TPTB. Obama and the left are currently TPTB. That is the very nature of things here on ATS and quite normal. Let the power shift to the right and you'll see ATS switch left.

Now, something has indeed changed over the years. I notice it not just here on ATS, but on TV, other sites, etc. That is the level of heat in the rhetoric. It happens with any discussion on politics, relgion, word affairs, the middle-east, etc.

The heat has risen here and everywhere else. Its like actual discussion has gone out the window and now it seems many just try to top each other to see who can toss out the most heated words and all sides are guilty of it. It didn't used to be like that. It was sometimes, but nowhere near as often.

Honestly, its a primary reason I don't post very often.

Anyway, thankfully ATS allows all sides of a discussion to be heard as long as they are presented in a manner that doesn't break the conditions here. If that ever goes away you might as well turn off the lights and pull the plug.

MY goodness, I was just thinking the same thing

You know what I think?

I think we should all stop taking sides and labeling one another,

Find something we agree on,

Does everyone here want their opinion heard?

We do don't we?

But yet at times we discourage civilized debate, why?

I never said people cannot disagree and please don't use the term man up when your typing, thats just well contradictory. I'm just stating that the vast majority 90-10 is bashing the president thats all and that the bandwagon seems to be on the other side.

So since your so sure you 'know' about the constituion and the political process youve got to have a Harvard degree in Political Science then right? Please don't patronize me, we're all in the same boat here and to think your thoughts of the constitution are the correct ones is an extremely biased view.

Did you not read I was for Bush as well, you can question the president but the insults are way over the top and extremely bigotory.

Here here, Frogs!!!!

Well, I haven't been around much recently. I mean, I've been peeking around every now and then but quite honestly I can say I've lost a little interest in ATS at the moment. Not because I don't respect and appreciate all of you and how hard some of you work on your threads. I just feel sometimes I get a little flustered and... bored, quite frankly, with the topics of discussion.

And you know, I know they're prevalent because, again, that is the wonderful nature of ATS. I personally, as some of you might know, don't really agree with the conspiracy angle of the Obama presidency. I am always searching for truth and always interested in hearing the truth. Its just this whole thing with "birthers" and "deathers" really isn't my ticket.

And thats ok!!!

Listen, I don't want to convince any of you that "my" beliefs are better. Nobody here is stupid because of what they believe. If you are fed disinformation from a source you consider reliable, its not your fault! You're doing your best to find the truth!

Nobody is outright lying! We're all trying to get to the bottom of what goes on around us. Sometimes I just can't take the heat...I get out of the kitchen. Sometimes I fight.

But good job to all...I hope we can all get along.

Only when you are talking about our leaders. We the People still have lots of diverse idea's. Thank god the independents are the majority now among us.

My views on that issue.

We need radical views. We don't need interference with their dissemination. We need debate, we don't need restrictions on speech. We need to get along with people of all views. We don't need people who want all opposition silenced.
