To the OP all I can say it do not let what these people say bother you.
Rarely anyone ever wants to educate themselves on addiction is and so on so do not let negative comments bring you down.

I myself was on government run heath care a large part of my life.

I was born with Spina Bifida, and also adopted so not private health care would take my under because my operations costs over a million dollars, my mom was told to give up EVEN the government turned them down with any help for my first few operations I didn't get fully covered by the government till i was about 12 years old, the government said sorry we've used up our money for this year or whatever it was because they shipped a little boy over from another country and were paying for his country, and I know a lot of people would think that's wrong and treat yours first but I can't begrudge him that.

But anyway my mom was pretty much told by doctors, insurance places to let me died, be crippled and enjoy the time she had with me, she wouldn't stand for this of course and The Shriner s covered my first two corrective surgeries.(yup those big old bad Masons! haha go figure)
and they got me my surgeon, the operating room, everything for free.
So I owe them a great deal for my life.

Then from that time on I have had horrible infections, lost half my foot, would have died without the expensive anti biotic and just all kinds of crap happen to me.

Did I choose this?...Nope, I didn't scream out of my mothers fetus or physically rip and tear at the tissue around my spine to make me this way.

So I've been told by people that are against government run health care that I should die and blah blah blah, but and just to spite those people I forced myself to go to school I mean days where I am crippled over and can hardly walk i'd go anyway forced myself to work where I ended up in the hospital because the stress on my body caused my brain to swell from my chiari malformation but I was determined to make my own life have my own money.
I finally got my license to be a substance abuse counselor, I still get some government assistance but that's for out of state stuff because none of my specialist are in my state and we don't have any here.
I make a good income too, I help people as much as I can with getting them free meds, try my hardest when someone doesn't have health care to get them a charity bed somewhere, and sometimes even go into my own pocket and help my clients that need groceries and other goods bought for them as I could never imagine denying someone in need, so all I can say op is those people who complain about this to you, they are nothing they most likely have no life experience, no empathy or understanding of the things they love to ramble on about and act as if they know like the back of their hand and I pitty the day they have a loved one who finds them self in a medical crisis and the hospital pretty much says it would be better to let them die because the care simply costs too much money, The mighty always fall the hardest.
You are probably 100x's better a person than anyone of these fools who simply do not understand, you're 23 years old and you more then likely have more life experience then a lot of 40 years old, and I can confidently say that I am 24 years old and have saved and helped many of lives and that's something most the greedy, rich, materialistic, lifeless could never say, understand or feel the amazing power of.
I wouldn't even waste my spit on them, they live cold lonely frigid lives and one day they'll will all crumble and fall.
So hun, don't sweat it, don't let them bring you down, they don't deserve an explanation, they are too full of ignorance, pride, and self entitled to see anything but themselves and their own well being.

I am sorry, but you are very nieve if you think it is just the wealthy that will be paying for this health insurance plan. Did you not hear when it was announced that taxes for the middle class would also be raised? What is this idea that the "rich" think it is socialism? I am not rich, I am Republican and I do NOT want to pay for health care for people that won't do for themselves. Instead of expecting everything to be handed to you, why don't you get off your A$% and make something of yourself? I used heroine for years, got clean (WITH OUT THE GOVERNMENT) and now have a job, health insurance and the things I need. This poor me and this ""government" control is out of control. DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF>>>>>>>>> Why should anybody pay for my lack of responsibilty or my lack of care? Why should any American citizen pay for illegal immagrants health care? Get up and help yourself instead of sitting back and expecting handouts all the time.

So, YOUR BAD CHOICES have been subsidized by my taxes.

amen brother!!

I am by no means rich im not even considered middle class however i have medical insurance through my work which i pay a pretty penny for. Im a smoker and when my doctor prescribed a drug to quit low and behold the insurance company wouldn't pay for it at all, yet your non insured butt got drug treatments??

When my wife was pregnant the doctor advised us that she needed a costly treatment or she would loose the baby ( 10,000 per month ) the insurance denied the treatment and she lost the baby , but you with no insurance, paying for nothing got treatment for your bad decisions! Paid by who? Tax payers such as myself! A newborn life who had yet to get to make decisions was cut short and yet again i ask you got treatment for your piss poor decisions??? WTF!

One night my wife was having some severe abdominal pain but she didnt want to go to the ER because of the 200 co pay, so she waited until the next day. On the way to take her to the doctor i ran into her old doctor at the gas station who told me how she was now working at a free clinic for migrant workers in a nearby town. I said that must have been a pay cut for you to which she replied " no actually i do better there then in private practice" . So giving out free medical assistance pays more then when people pay for it? When we got to the doctor we where rushed to the hospital because my wife's appendix was about to rupture. She tried to save us 200 dollars by not going to the emergency room and it could have killed her but i bet those going to the free clinic dont have a problem going when ever they stub a toe. Whats to stop them its free.!!!!!

I just noticed something. This thread has 862 replies and 45 flags.

????????

I understand most of you don't agree with the OP, and have repeatedly pointed this out in the most hateful (Hateful means full of hate) way.

Even if you despise the fact that he is still alive, the least you could do is give him a flag in thanks for providing you with a place to spew your
*views*.

And before you jump on him, remember I don't know him, and this observation and comment are purely mine, not his. I think he understands where you stand in the other regard. : )

I'm just saying. I think he gets a flag for bravery, courage, and honesty for starting this thread. I mean this is a huge amount of replies for one thread, and he authored it. He deserves a flag.

Oh Wait! I just thought of this, and I swear I mean it to be funny, not mean.

"NO NO NO. These are MY flags!!! I don't have to give one of MY flags
to anbody". This would require my having to use one of my hard-earned fingers, and the mouse I worked years to obtain, and I don't want to wear it out on a FLAG for somebody".

See? I'm so funny this morning.

Considering most of them seem to wish he was dead rather than costing them the millionth of a cent that came out of their taxes one year, its not surprising he gets no flags.

Here is another example of a person that thinks it is just about handouts or to give healthcare to the poor.

People don't read the thread anymore?

It is not just about the poor. There are people that have worked all there life and still don't get the healthcare they deserve because the system fails for them. Somehow people think when they complain about universal healthcare that they can magically leave out those people and only need to complain about 'leeches' and 'poor' people. Wake up!

And the system fails BECAUSE of the abuse of leeches.

That's part of why medicaid is denied to people who need it

That's a big part of the reason private insurance companies drop people or refuse pre-existing conditions

Because so many have abused the system for so long

It is all cause & effect.

People scam, abuse and defraud, then when an honest person really need the help they can't get it.

But people will keep on enabling those who scam, abuse and defraud, knowing FULL WELL that's what they have done.

Makes no sense

LOL. Why people? Just why? This has got to be the funniest thing I have ever seen. Heck there's even a guy on here complaining that his insurance wouldn't pay for his loved ones operations but the free government run did for someone else, and yet they're defending the same system that screwed them over? LOL.
Why are there ppl on here wishing that someone was dead because he was poor, and yet there are others that attack things like, oh, abortion, that do just that? (and feed depopulation theories)
I'm not sure if I should burst out laughing or cry for those who have to put up with this hypocritical bull across the pond.

The bill may be bad in the mumble that it is, but it doesn't sound like your beloved insurance companies are helping.

Can't you get them to change it or recall those who made it like was mentiomed in another thread?

See you have health insurance and is government run perhaps you don't understand the role of Medicaid and Medicare they are entitlement programs for people like you, paid by those like me and many with our tax payer dollars even when neither my husband or me qualify for it and pay for our own insurance.

I am complaining? no, but why do we need another government health care program when we already are paying for two.

Government needs to fix their own mess before trying to add more burden to the already strap tax payer in the nation.

And I am not rich and neither my husband, we are just in that bracket that the government loves because it can suck us dry as long as we are in it, if my husband loses its job I will be in line with you.

How can I forget, my friend, we also stuck with the public assistance and children insurance in our local state.

Because people forget that we have to pay for what the federal government doesn't at state level.

So we are double, triple and quadruple in paying taxes even when people like my husband and me doesn't qualify for any of the social programs and state programs funded at the local level.

So hey we are paying no matter what as we speak.

Someone mentioned that we people should 'serve' in the military or such in order to get government based healthcare.

Think about that for a moment. So people should go join a military and cause more health problems with the guns and bullets they fling at each other in order to get the healthcare they deserve? Oh wow...

Let's fix that... why not make it so that 'service' in the hospitals is a good as 'service' in war. That when you join a military you have the option to fight over seas or you have the option to serve in medical facilities in the home country.

Well, don't want to get to far off-topic, yet wanted to make sure that point wasn't left out to dangle.

Since when does our military "fling bullets" at each other?

The only health problems caused would be to our enemies, and that is a good thing.

There we have it folks... a narcissistic remark just to get a second liner! And a witty remark as a first liner. Also, the mentality that "it is ok to hurt and kill people but it is not ok to help the poor bettr themselves"... go figure!

And, we wonder why there are so many "enemies"...

Still doesn't even compare or answer why military services can't be served out in the medical hospitals in the home country. Seems like an excellent honorable duty for good men. One way to surely save lives.

Billions of money spent on war, and yet people complain about even less than a tenth of the same amount be spent on improvements in the home country. Where was the choice to go to war and spend all that money? Maybe people should have the same depth in choice about governmental provided healthcare -- none!

Of course, I think people should have a greater choice. I think people should even have a choice to accept governmental provided healthcare or private healthcare. There are many that surely have worked and paid into the system and one way or another they deserve healthcare... yet it some people here want to deny what people deserve! The abusive leeches some call poor are no different from the abusive leeches we can also call military men that go to war. Yes... a thought to provoke your wits and make you think.

I know its pointless to write this but having read your numerous posts to this thread I feel obliged to point out your error. Our military "flings bullets" at each other quite often actually. Its known as friendly fire or occasionally Fratricide, I have witnessed it personally and was nearly a victim of it on more than one occasion.

"Our enemies" are not my enemies or anyones in particular. I have no enemies and would prefer to have my tax dollars used to provide healthcare, food and shelter for the many "deadbeats" in our world. Perhaps we can petition the government to outsource the financial burden of the pentagon to private charities?

I know this post is not going to help one iota, but damn your world view just pushes my buttons! lol

Take care,

Since you want to split hairs, I will do the same.

Friendly fire is accidental, and fratricide is a VERY rare occurrence.

Of the hundreds of millions of rounds fired in war, what percentage do you think is aimed at friendlies? .00000000000000000000000000000000000001% or so?

A tenth? Where do you get this figure?

A public health care program funded by the taxpayers would made the DOD budget look like pocket change.

Its retarded entitlement programs that will lead to the end of this nation. They will bankrupt it like never before.

Tell me, since you seem to be all for giving my money to others, what percentage of your weekly income do you donate to the "less fortunate"?

50%?

75%?

Alright guys the discussion is now over.

Obama is reportedly giving up on the "Public Option" plan, so no more free insurance for the poor and a little less taxation on the People.

However the rest of the bill is going forward.. so while the Gov may not jump into the Insurance Business.. they apparently are still aiming to screw over the Doctors and health care providers..

Hopefully the whole bill fails miserably. And perhaps this will give them thinking time as to how to actually fix health care, mainly by forcing reform on insurance companies.

Blessed are the poor in spirit - NOT the mean in spirit and there are plenty of mean spirited folks spouting on this thread....it beggars the imagination - how the lot of you make it through a day what with money concerns - the only thing that actually does concern you in a caring way - money money money - your god - your savior - good luck with that.

then there are those who cry - fraud! leeches! cheaters! without a shred of stats or evidence to back up these claims - but hey it makes a good mantra and feeds your self serving ideology....

On with the show - but know this - there is more to life than your pocketbook - no really there is - oh wait I don't have any stats to back that up - just personal experience - so give it time - you will be tested as many of us have already been.

Kudos to the OP for using the help he has received to get his life straight and back on track - thats a dollar well spent on the stewardship of life and God's world - Bravo!!!!!!!!!
