Cave Complex Allegedly Found Under Giza Pyramids
dsc.discovery.com
Aug. 13, 2009 -- An enormous system of caves, chambers and tunnels lies hidden beneath the Pyramids of Giza, according to a British explorer
who claims to have found the lost underworld of the pharaohs.
Populated by bats and venomous spiders, the underground complex was found in the limestone bedrock beneath the pyramid field at Giza.
"There is untouched archaeology down there, as well as a delicate ecosystem that includes colonies of bats and a species of spider which we have
tentatively identified as the white widow," British explorer Andrew Collins said. (visit the link for the full news article)

Collins, who will detail his findings in the book "Beneath the Pyramids" to be published in September, tracked down the entrance to the
mysterious underworld after reading the forgotten memoirs of a 19th century diplomat and explorer.
"In his memoirs, British consul general Henry Salt recounts how he investigated an underground system of 'catacombs' at Giza in 1817 in the company
of Italian explorer Giovanni Caviglia," Collins said.
Just thought I would share this with y'all. I know there are a number of folks on ATS that are interested in the pyramids. Specifically the
possibility of caves under the pyramids.
Enjoy!

This is awesome!
There are many theories that these tunnels might lead to a "chamber of knowledge".
I can't wait for pics!

Great find! Hopefully we'll see more this soon.
However, I do fear that this discovery may be shut down based on what Hawass said.
From the 2nd page of the article you linked in the OP.
Collins' claim is expected to cause a stir in the Egyptological world.
Zahi Hawass, chief of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, has dismissed the discovery.
"There are no new discoveries to be made at Giza. We know everything about the plateau," he stated.
If there is one thing we've seen here on ATS. They don't like discoveries that go "against the grain".

Bloody hell!!! I'll be delighted and disappointed all at once. Delighted because anything new in Egypt is always fascinating. Disappointed because
I'll need to u2u a few members and accept that they were right. Apologies come easy to a man that's wrong several times a week
As I'm cautious about accepting these kinds of stories, there are at least two flags that have gone up IMO. The first is that the guy isn't a
professional archaeologist and wouldn't have permission. That's abuse of local law. Second, there's been no news of these findings anywhere at all
and that makes me suspicious. Anyone remember Adam's Calender?
So, it's worth holding off the celebrations until the discovery is confirmed. The article mentions 'untouched archaeology,' let's hope it remains
that way until professionals have a looksee.

History Channel or Discovery channel did a special on them several years ago and even had, if I remember correctly, the indefatigable Dr. Zahi Hawass
explore a few of the caverns. One of the entrances is near the Sphinx.

Agreed! However, this is Discovery Channel reporting this. I can't recall them ever posting a story without solid evidence or a reliable source. Time
will tell, hopefully

I was kinda hoping something like long lost ancient or alien technologies or a spaceship. Bats and bugs aren't exactly an advanced race.
Sounds more like some dark underworld of death and demons to me. Still, it is interesting that the pyramids were possibly built over caverns. I've
sometimes wondered about the reptilian connection with these caves and tunnels.

I haven't followed this, so any links or anything would appreciate to get caught up to date on what is going on, but why would the gov not want this
to get out if this true?
Interesting find none the less though, look forward to learning more. I have to run some earns so I don't have time to read the article at this
moment, but when I return I will read it.

WTG (way to go) !!
i knew they would prove it correct eventually.
there are supposedly cavern systems like this everywhere.
i heard some 2012 theories say that the coming age will change with the knowledge that is found under the sphinx?
that Dr Zahi was actually blocking attempts of people to go down there to study these caves. the military has known about them with their ground
penetrating radar
i could be talking out of me ostensibly-offensive, oral-opposing, orifice though
i kinda like that name for a*. its like saying esoteric bovine excrement instead of bs

Just like the History Channels "most important discovery", this will much ado about nothing. They will make a big deal about it, sell some books, a
tv specail that keeps you watching til the end only to tell you in a british voice that more work needs to be done here......to unlock...........the
secrets..............of the past. *screen goes black, que music and prepare for coke commercial*

If this does turn out to be true, I expect Hawass to be fuming about now, and id expect him to try and cover up as much as he can, Hawass has made
enemies over the past several years, to be honest I cant blame him for trying to protect his countries heritage after all the country was looted for
hundreds of years by Europeans, and so much was lost in the process.
For example the mummies of hundreds of thousands of cats where brought to the UK and used as fertiliser and fuel, as well as the disappearance of many
human mummies along with their treasures and histories.
I really do hope this guy is for real and not just trying to sell his book, then taking the money and running.
What is encouraging is it's the Discovery Channel that is reporting it, and I doubt they would without some evidence.
The underground caverns another poster was talking about, I think was related to Osiris or Isis, and have still to fully explored, there is a thread
here on ATS about them but I cant seem to find it, perhaps they are linked to the rest of that system?

Hawass is on my list of the World's Douchey-ist people....
Every time a discovery could be made to benefit human kind he dismisses it.
Pretty much if he dismisses it...= It's true..
If he gives you his interpretation or you hear info from him = false...
