You have to be kidding me, if an old women came running at me, i dont care how old she is, and tried to stab me with a steak knife, i would knock her the f**k out without hesitation..

Just because shes an old woman it does not mean she cant drive that knife through your heart, then what? yes, your stone dead.
And all because the sweet old woman had a knife..

You guys are living in fairy land..

But that is just the point, she wasn't running and I doubt anyone would have trouble outwalking her. She has Alzheimer's and looked to me like she was scared and disoriented and just wanted to protect herself from strangers. One rap with a nightstick on her wrist would have ended the problem, or better still the officer could have tried talking her down first and calmed her down.

mind you, discrimination is to be abhorred, so if the cop was totally sex, age and colour blind he should have given her the same kind of beating he would have administered to a young fit white male

This is whats wrong with our nation. Its not the Government its a good share of the people.

My God that was shocking.

People question what to do?

You wait for plenty of backup, you distract her and knock the knife from her hand with your Baton. Its a no-brainer this is how cops do it, I have seen it done to young men even.

That officer is incompetent and criminal for doing what she did and anyone defneding such a bone headed move should be ashamed.

This makes me sick, another story of a thug with a badge.

I just finished reading The Hot House: Life Inside Leavenworth Prison. (good book btw). In fact I have it here in my drawer and it has various details about cops comparing themselves to criminals, how there is a very fine line between a cop and a criminal. I was able to quickly find one paragraph among many, from a longtime Leavenworth lieutenant:

"Not everyone can do this kind of work," he said, "but it's always come easy to me and I enjoy it. Quite frankly, I think the traits that you need to be a good officer and traits you need to be a good convict are very, very similar."

There is another section in the book where an upper level administrator talks about how kids that are pushed around and mistreated can go one of two ways when they grow up, into a criminal life or into law enforcement where they can finally have power over others.

Cops are not our friends anymore. I wouldn't trust one as far as I can throw them. The brutality from cops used to occur mainly against minorities but they don't have a preference anymore; anyone at all who doesn't mind them or who steps out of line in their eyes is fair game for a beating.

If a police officer asks you to drop your weapon; you either drop your weapon or you have it taken from you. This is how a dangerous situation is resolved.

There was a thread on this earlier and the story apparently went that the old lady was brandishing the knife at people. So either the woman is put down physically or she gets tazed. Either way no one would be happy with the outcome, so maybe those people who still ASSUME the police are first and foremost bullies should get the facts and learn to properly assess a situation.

Eww.

A cop sees a frail, white-haired old woman who obviously is confused and the scumbag ***** throws her to the ground and injures her. And you think it's ok.

Eww.

When you are trained to be a hammer, everyone else looks like a nail.

Police are trained this way because TPTB want them to treat us this way.

Eww. A person who disagrees with you. Eww.

Firstly, I didn't say this was ok. I said, people need to understand the full circumstances before leaping to a "nazi pig scum" conclusion.

Secondly, I already explained why she was "taken down" in the manner she was. Arm-chair law enforcement like the people on this board always talk about how they would do things like giving the elderly woman a single wrap on the wrist with a baton. Have you ever even held a police baton? The collapsing batons would have likely turned the woman's wrist into a bag of broken glass with any hit strong enough to disarm her; not to mention that if it didn't disarm her, it would have taken a second strike WHICH WOULD STILL HAVE YOU ALL CALLING BRUTALITY.

How many people here are LEOs? How many people here have ever been in a situation with a disoriented person of any age and sex with a weapon in hand? You don't know how you will react until the situation arises.

Again, there is no context for the video, all we have is a disoriented Alzheimer with a knife. Where is her family? Does she even have family? What's with the knife? Is she looking for someone? Is she going to hurt them? Herself?

Do you understand how many questions there are when an LEO arrives on any scene?

The force applied in this situation appears more than necessary because of the blood, and everyone's assumption than an 84 year old is brittle and helpless. Don't go putting words in my mouth here, I'm not saying she could have taken the officer, I'm saying you don't assume anything in any situation especially when weapons are involved.

My point to all I've said remains what none of you seem to be able to comprehend; you will never be happy with the way LEOs respond. This was a terrible situation that would never have had a happy ending.

I didn't watch the video (not wanting to see it), but that sounds like sheer revenge to me and abuse of power.

Some cops are good people, but the majority, I'm sorry, are just that, pigs! Actually, sorry pigs.

Cops used to be sworn to OBEY HONOR AND PROTECT. Well that is a big joke. I don't need anymore details. I have a live video that tells me all I need to know. Cops are specially trained in taking people down but even with sick frail old ladies the cop wasn't about to risk breaking a nail or anything, she just went for the takedown of the citizen she was supposed to be PROTECTING.

Started a thread on this a couple of days ago in Breaking General News, ...

Video: Cop Bodyslams Knife-Wielding Elderly Woman, Nearly Causing 'Riot'

Seems like more people read the BAN threads than the BGN threads, but anyway, I thought I'd post the video for everyone though.

My 86 year old grandma just passed away due to Alzheimers.

If one of those filthy bastard pigs would have tackled her to the ground and then laughed about it they would have gotten a taste of there own medicine and I would be grinning the whole way through my prison sentence.

Ignore all my points all you want but even the video shows the officer pointing to the ground in what is an obvious command to drop the knife.

This damn near made me cry. I just pictured a cop doing that to my granny...I guarantee I'd go to jail for life if I saw that # happen to my granny. If I were the family of that lady, I'd give that crazy b!tch officer hell and take every legal action possible against her. This makes me sick. Yes I saw the knife, yes, I know she didn't follow orders, but she is old, fragile, obviously confused, and needed help. The force used on her was inappropriate.

I think that law enforcement officers need better training on how to not just come out of the gate using excessive force.

They should be taught to have a little more patience and to take the time to actually assess the situation and the actual threat level, especially when dealing with a frail, 84 year old woman!

Here's some more info from the article I used in my thread, ...

Video: Cop bodyslams knife-wielding elderly woman, nearly causing 'riot'

To sum up the events that took place before the video, (according to this article) ...

This is a very frail, 84 year old woman with Alzheimer's, apparently her daughter left her in the car while she ran into Wal-Mart, her mother became confused, didn't know where she was or why she was there, she tried to get out of the car but couldn't unfasten the seat belt, so she found a steak knife in the car(?), cut the seat belt, than wondered around the parking lot, holding the knife, calling out for her daughter, then the cops showed up.

She could just of easily grabbed this old woman's arm that held the knife instead of throwing her to the ground and busting her head open and possibly cracking her skull!

If this woman officer would have taken another minute or two to try to figure out what was really happening there, instead of resorting to brute force within 30 seconds of meeting the woman, the body slam probably would never had to have happened.

The officer might then have figured out that (a) she was dealing with a very elderly lady, (b) this lady was frail and even needed a cane to walk, (c) the old lady was confused because she didn't know where she was or why she was there, (d) the elderly woman was desperately calling out, trying to find her daughter.

You've also yet to provide any proof or articles that this has happened.

That is just a disgrace....words almost fail me. The cop could not see she was dealing with a frail woman who could hardly walk, was seemingly no danger to anyone as 2 women had just passed behind her within feet and had not been threatened, and they had a baby on the trolley? Now there is a case for the president calling out the police, not to protect his black power mate. But still, with his ethos she is a drain on society anyway.
If that cop does not know what constitutes danger, she should be put in jail so she quickly learns what danger is. How hard would it have been to have called for back up and for another cop to get behind the old woman and simply grab her arm. That cop can have no respect for anyone to have done that. She should be fired and prosecuted for murder if that poor woman has died.
