Official Hails Self-Sufficiency of Iran's Defense Industries
english.farsnews.com...

TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian defense ministry official on Wednesday hailed
Iran's progress in manufacturing military tools and equipment, and announced
that the country is no more dependant on the world powers for supplying its
military needs.

"The Iranian defense industries progress and self-sufficiency is
unprecedented and this vast country has never been so independent and
needless of the world powers all throughout its contemporary history,"
Mohammad Ranjbar said, addressing a number of defense ministry officials in
Shiraz, south of Iran.

He also lauded Iranian experts and youth for their hard work which has led
to the independence of the country's defense industries from the aliens.

Elsewhere, Ranjbar referred to the economic and social crises in hegemonic
countries as an indication of the weakening power of both the western and
Eastern blocks, saying that the declining trend started with the
decomposition of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed
war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has
produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and even
fighter planes.

Yet, Tehran has always insisted that its arms development programs are for
defensive purposes only.

Iran successfully tested a home-made radar-evading Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
(UAV) with bombing capabilities in June. Also last year, the country's
Defense Industries launched the production lines of two well-known home-made
fighter jets, namely Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) and Azarakhsh (Lightening).

Also, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Air Force
Brigadier General Hossein Salami said on August 1st that Iran is faced with
a lack of sufficient room to store the missiles it has produced.

The commander also stressed that all the ground-to-ground, ballistic and
cruise missiles of the IRGC are home-made and that all their parts and
systems are produced inside the country.

Iran started mass production of a home-made supersonic surface-to-air
missile system named 'Shahin' in June capable of tracing and targeting enemy
aircraft.

Also Iran successfully test fired a new generation of ground-to-ground
missile called "Sejjil" on November 12. Sejjil is a two-stage missile that
carries two engines and burns combined solid fuel.

Of course it is propaganda, and for good reason. There is a huge amount of military and economic pressure on Iran at the moment, attempting to gridlock other powers into considering them a danger is a valid strategy to avoid undue attention. Though I believe it to be for the public at large, not for global governments.
