NORAD exercise looks ahead to Vancouver Olympics

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct an exercise over British Columbia and Washington state in preparation for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.

NORAD says the exercise will be Wednesday and Thursday and is designed to improve its pilots' skills at identifying and intercepting aircraft.

NORAD is a joint U.S.-Canada command responsible for defending North American air space. It is based at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.

I was wondering what that was all about i was out for a walk today and saw a bunch of fighter jets flying by.. which is unusual as i normal just see the commercial planes in that area.. they were flying pretty low to. I really dont see the point of spending all that money on air defense for the winter Olympics. Fill me in if there is something im missing lol. Anyway thanks for the heads up briantaylor.
