New Documents Show Rove's Role In Political Firings

www.huffingtonpost.com

The House Judiciary Committee Web-published thousands of pages of documents on Tuesday, including over 700 pages of transcripts of on-the-record interviews with Karl Rove and Harriet Miers regarding the Bush-era U.S. Attorney firings and the politicization of the Department of Justice.

Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) said he is forwarding the documents to federal prosecutors.

According to the committee, the materials -- including over 5,400 pages of Bush White House and Republican National Committee emails -- show that Bush White House officials were deeply involved in the US Attorn

Another day, another leak from the shady dealings of the Bush administration. It is no secret that Rove and Cheney were the hand in the glove for the last eight years, but it is getting increasingly disturbing how shady they really were.

The US attorney embarrassment would have been a minor footnote if not for it's reaking of political back stroking.

We need to rehire all those that were fired for
political purposes. All the new attorneys are right
wing idealogues who didn't deserve the jobs they
were given just like Harriet Meiers, "heckuva job
brownie" Michael Brown, et al.
It would be a step in the right direction.

Reporting from Washington -- Karl Rove and other officials in George W. Bush's White House played an active role in the firing of the top federal prosecutor in New Mexico, according to documents released Tuesday that also show Bush political aides tried to influence Justice Department officials on other matters.

The e-mails and interview transcripts made public by the House Judiciary Committee show Rove and other White House aides paying particular attention to complaints from Republican officials in New Mexico that U.S. Atty. David C. Iglesias had failed to help their election...

A committee Conyers lead. The same Conyer who sees no point in members reading 1,000-Page Health Care Bill--Unless they have 2 lawyers to interpret it for them.

Kinda hard to believe that they could come to that kind of conclusion when they have pretty much admitted that they don't like to read.

Karl Rove responds

Former Bush White House adviser Karl Rove says House Judiciary Committee chairman John Conyers' two-and-a-half year investigation of the Bush administration's firing of several U.S. attorneys has "failed to produce a shred of evidence" to support Conyers' accusation that Rove was behind the purge.

"There is absolutely no evidence of that whatsoever," Rove told me Tuesday. "They failed to produce a shred of evidence for their arguments."

Guess we will have to wait and see if the federal prosecutors think they have a case.

Of course we would expect Rove to make those claims.

It's all part of the tactic... Deny everything and make counter accusations.
