This is extremely disturbing to me.

"Society" already has parents afraid to discipline their children, because it might be politically incorrect. I am not even talking about a smack on the fanny. School counselors tell children that anything their parents do which makes them (the children) uncomfortable (raised (read threatening) voice, strict rules with penalties for nonobservance, restrictions and get this chores (parents are supposed to work, not children) are inappropriate. My then, six year old, was throwing a tantrum, screaming, I had to yell to be heard. He informed me that his teacher said it is wrong for parents to yell at children, that I was a bad parent.

Now they are considering removing all choice of parenting decisions, by issuing cookie cutter instructions. Seriously, what is next, removing our children from their homes once they are weaned so society can raise them?

This scares me.

If any Govt' agent comes beyond my PRIVATE PROPERTY signs, and beyond my fences and gates, they are getting shot. End of story. I don't need anyone to tell me how to raise my son and daughter, let alone the Govt'.

This is truly getting ridiculous. Next thing you know they'll be forcing me to send them to public school instead of homeschooling them. Based of course on their "evaluation" of my home.

Just in case the Govt' is watching ATS, please, please try to come onto my property and evaluate my household, I need as much target practice as I can get.

So, is not money for education reform even when our nation is lacking behind developing countries in the world, but is money to come and see if you are doing what you are supposed to do (as per government guidelines) in educating your child?

Wait a money, does that means that the government is going to make sure your child gets its vaccinations in time and is prescribed drugs after it gets an evaluation for mental health?.

Incredible, how money is been allocated for what the government deems more important than education in the nation.

I agree. We should sterilize everyone with your mindset, we can start with you. That will go a long way towards cleansing the gene pool.

I don't agree with this health care bill as much as anyone , but #1 since it's posted publicly I don't know how this is a "dirty little secret" and #2 some people just shouldn't have kids and don't know how to raise them. I don't understand how this is any different than any of the state programs that are floating around. Like the Division of youth and family services in NJ

From the DYFS webpage

"The Division of Prevention and Community Partnerships' (DPCP) goal is to build a continuum of child abuse prevention and intervention programs that are culturally competent, strengths-based and family-centered, with a strong emphasis on primary child abuse prevention. The Standards for Prevention Programs* developed by the New Jersey Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, defines prevention efforts as follows:

Primary Prevention targets the general population and offers services and activities before any signs of undesired behaviors may be present; there is no screening.

Secondary Prevention is directed at those who are “at risk” of possibly maltreating or neglecting children. Determining who is at risk is based upon etiological studies of why maltreatment may occur. Secondary prevention efforts and services are provided before child abuse or neglect occurs.

Tertiary Prevention is provided after maltreatment has occurred, to reduce the impact of maltreatment and to avoid future abuse. Tertiary Prevention is treatment, working with children who have been abused, or working with families where abuse has occurred.

Services and programs funded through the DPCP promote culturally-sensitive, strengths-based, positive outcomes for children, youth and families in the following areas: child cognitive development; child social and emotional development; child physical health development; prevention of child injury, abuse and neglect; parenting behavior, attitudes and knowledge; parents’ mental health or risk behaviors; family functioning/resources, including economic self-sufficiency; empowerment and increased safety for domestic violence victims and their children.

DPCP is committed to provide the resources and technical assistance needed to maintain a robust network of public/private partnerships and programs. Schools and community-based organizations are two prime locations for prevention and intervention services. These two portals are the broadest access to services for families."

There are PLENTY of faults in "ObamaCare"... I just don't believe this is one of them

I guess you got me there. That was a great comeback and I suppose it is now my turn to come back with an even more clever remark.

Leave the personal insults on the schoolyard children. I will not stoop to this level. It is getting too personal. When I make derrogatory remarks I don't focus them on A particular person or member. It seems to be touching a nerve or hitting too close to home so before this turns into a never ending insult slinging contest I will gracefully bow out. Have fun kids.

Oh, I see. You don't like "personal" attacks upon yourself for your fascist remarks but you find it completely acceptable to castigate the "retards" and those who care for them. Margaret Sanger and Adolph Hitler would be very proud of your stance. And, to add insult to injury, when someone points out the lunacy of those ideas your response is to cut and run. How brave of you. Eugenics doesn't work. Intermarriage of only the wealthy and smart amongst us results in madness...witness the British royal family. Nuff said.

I am confused about the proposed uni-health care bill.

1. If passed would it mean that all health care professional's incomes would decrease?

2. Would all hospitals and private practitioners be regulated and have their fee's regulated?

Thanks for any help on this.

I must say WOW. Obama is a genious. All the things i've thought was wrong with the US he has thought of. Finally someone with intelligence and real balls have taken the presidency.

You're all so paranoid, but the man is going to fix the infrastructure in your nation with this bill and strenghten it. Stop being paranoid it's not like you lose the right to raise your own children, you just lose the right to wrongfully raise them. Or look at it this way, you will recieve alot more HELP in raising your children if you have problems with it. This is a service. Something you should be happy about and that alot of people with troubled teenagers WILL be happy about.

Building up the infrastructure. Strenghtening the very people who make up the country.

Spoiler Alert! This is what the section Chuck outlines says:

PURPOSE.—The purpose of this section is to im14
prove the well-being, health, and development of children
15 by enabling the establishment and expansion of high qual16
ity programs providing voluntary home visitation for fami17
lies with young children and families expecting children.
18 ‘‘(b) GRANT APPLICATION.—A State that desires to
19 receive a grant under this section shall submit to the Sec20
retary for approval, at such time and in such manner as
21 the Secretary may require, an application for the grant

The program is completely voluntary! No government agents are going to barge through your doors and spirit your children away to some federal education camp.

Chuck tries to dispell the fact that the bill clearly states it's completely voluntary by quoting farther down about the state (by the way, this program is also completely voluntary for the states, so if it does pass and you have issues with it, lobby your state government); however, he fails to mention that he's quoting how the bill breaks up the funding in the grant. It clearly states...well, here:

the State shall identify and prioritize serving
2 communities that are in high need of such serv3
ices, especially communities with a high propor4
tion of low-income families or a high incidence
5 of child maltreatment

As in, lower-income families most likely don't have the funds to take their children to a child psychologist, speech therapist, physical therapist, etc., so targeting communities that don't have easy access to these services is the best way to dole out the money.

And again, that is only for determining the amount of money the federal government gives to the state. No where does it say "low-income families" must be helped first at the expense of everyone else. It's saying that if Alabama and Vermont were to apply for the grant, Alabama would probably receive more money proportionally than Vermont because proportionally Alabama has more low-income families.

This article is pure fear based propaganda. It's not mandatory for the state or the citizen, and I don't see why Chuck seems to think parents won't be able to call family, friends, or pastors for help if they wanted to. No where in the bill does it give an agency the authority to forcibly enter your home and educate your children in some kind of weird liberal gestapo nightmare.

And lastly, how do you think these healthcare employees would be trained? In a big, scary, federal government education center? Uh, no. They'd be trained in an accredited, post-secondary university. Child psychologists wouldn't be any more or less secular than they are now, difference is, they'd be affordable to families who otherwise couldn't afford them.

Sheesh!

I'm "listening" to you. Have you "...kicked some badguys/zombies around in a few movies?" No, we all have a right to state our opinion today, Why someone gives head to that opinion is up to them.

You say, "The program is completely voluntary! No government agents are going to barge through your doors and spirit your children away to some federal education camp." I should point out to you the government says the Federal Income Tax is also voluntary. But, just try not paying your voluntary tax. The government is NOT to be trusted with raising our children. I mean look what a wondrful job they did in bringing democracy to Iraq.

You do know that the mayority of the people you just labeled happen to be DEMOCRATS?....

Are there Republicans, and people of other political leaning who also do those things? sure there are, but the mayority of the people you just described are those living in ghettos, and in general inner city people, which happen to be for the most part Democrats, or even anarchists...

Anyway, today while i went to the doctor they had the tv on and they were watching CNN, and there was President Obama trying to lie through his teeth meanwhile most of those inside the hall where applauding everytime he made a pause.

But then something happened.

President Obama made a statement that most of the money to pay for this healthcare reform will come "largely by cutting out the waste and insurance company giveaways, and medicare which aren't making any of our seniors healthy..." and you know what happened as he paused waiting for his diehard fans to applaud? there was silence if only for a few seconds.... then some woman said something, and Obama said "right" and some of his diehard fans laughted and SOME applauded, but the mayority remained silent mulling over what he had just said.

For those few seconds i thought to myself, "are they about the wake up and see what he is actually saying"? but then after Obama said "right" some people laughed and began to applaud, and then again the Democrats in the hall forgot what happened and what he said a minute ago and continued applauding like brainwashed zombies.

Apparently the Obama fans have a really short memory span.

Not only did President Obama once again lied in this town hall meeting about what is inside his healthcare reform, but the one statement which was partially true, the DEmocrats present could not comprehend what he had just said.

Under the healthcare reform elder people will not be covered for certain treatments if the government thinks they "won't get any better", or if there is a possibility that they could die, or if such treatment is not "economically viable for the government"....

Healthy people can die while under almost any operation, and even during some treatments...does that mean people should not be having such treatments, and operations "because there is a possibility they might die"?

We have covered several times in these forum what is actually in the bill which Democrats are trying to pass, and President Obama is lying through his teeth telling people to believe what he says and not what is written in the healthcare reform bill...

President Obama has broken EVERY promise he made since he got in office. i wonder why is it that Democrats and the other Obamatrons think that this time he will keep his promise when the healthcare reform itself says what will really happen if this is passed.

A voluntary program like this seems perfectly appropriate and long overdue. There already exist social services empowered to remove children from abusive households, so what is the problem with a proactive, voluntary program as a sort of preventative medicine?

Poor parenting is at the root of much of society's problems, and it could be argued that it holds us back as a species. Parents warp the minds of their children every day, passing on their own prejudices, religious beliefs, and psychological baggage. If you have a program set up so that they may be offered assistance by qualified professionals in childcare, who would presumably be impartial counselors, what harm could result? For those who do not require assistance, they aren't likely to request it. For those who do request it, one can imagine they need it. It could be argued that those who need the help would not think to seek it, but at least the option would be available to them. Perhaps a friend could pass along the information and maybe they would seek assistance.

People are often so quick to assume the worst, most nightmarish scenarios for the most innocuous and potentially helpful programs the government proposes. I know it is a conspiracy website, but fears like this are completely irrational. Even if you can argue that a program like this could somehow become mandatory one day (which seems highly improbable) that doesn't mean that it will.

And yet it is not the redneck hillbilly's that threaten our freedom, but the well educated intelligensia, schooled in all facets of socialism that are entrenched in all state departments of human services that will take your children from you and place them with pedophiles and murderers.

You're kidding right? You want the government to FORCE things on us? Whose side are you on, man?

As Centurion put it, what exactly would possess you to invite government to cram more down our throats while we're choking already?

I don't care if your talking about sterilization or a health care bill or what, how can you say that the government should regulate MORE of our lives? Then again, I'd imagine you to be the first in line to get something like the H1N1 vaccine.

Lemme see on a actual working level

I am a new parent..I decide I dont know it all. I call social services and they come over, give me some info about at what age to start potty training them, when its a good time to start social interactions with other kids, and when to expect them to start memorizing stuff like phone numbers and other types of things.

I can follow their advice and understanding, and can have them coach me through some of the tougher aspects of this, or not...considering its my choice.

and...this is somehow bad...how?

did you know...I can call up a free government run clinic and ask them about diseases and such and they will give me info I might not have had otherwise...omg, conspiracy...government is trying to force disease info on me.

you lot are funny

and ya...erm, red blooded americans hating government. The government is made up of red blooded americans...go run for government and get elected yourself, then become self loathing.
Get real...the hardest pill to swallow is that the government isnt some secret alien species controlling your life...its you...its your vote, your concerns, and dealing with your neighbors concerns...what you dont like is the fact that your neighbors have a say also in how things are done. So, what your truely saying is "I am a red blooded american, I hate my neighbor having a say like anyone else"

sucks to lose, doesnt it...we dealt with it for many years. have fun in the forest...seems your gonna be there for awhile.
