A dear friend of mine, who shall remain anonymous, and who also is a local city official, recently warned me of the federal government intentions of
setting up what is being called "dark fiber networks".
Apparently, local officials from county commissioners, mayors, city managers and the like are being encouraged to support the administration's plan
to create government networks that will supply television, internet, and telephone services, exactly like we see being supplied in bundles from
companies like Comcast and others.
The plan is to first supply these services to government facilities at reduced rates compared to companies like Comcast. Once the infrastructures
are in place the next step will be to offer these services to the public at "reduced rates".
The ultimate goal will be to wipe out the private companies who won't be able to compete with the rates being offered by the government "bundles"
and the end result will be that all telecommunications, information, even television will be controlled, filtered, and limited by the government.
I know the integrity of my contact, I appreciate the trust this person has extended to me in giving permission to post information about this. This
person has told me they will not support this move by the feds to establish such a network, and has encouraged me to sound the alarm to all who would
listen.
I believe the only real action that we can take now is to contact our representatives, and senators and tell them we know what is going on and we
don't want the government to step into the area of information and communication like they are in the auto industry, the banking systems, and health
care.
