So both the Speaker Of The House and the House Majority Leader consider the Healthcare Bill opponents un-American due to their actions.

'Un-American' attacks can't derail health care debate

However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue. These tactics have included hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas, where protesters also shouted "Just say no!" drowning out those who wanted to hold a substantive discussion.

These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades.

Wonder how the Secretary of State feels about this statement, considering the statement she made in 2007 in my signature?

Nobody in that quote called the opponents un-American.

What they said was, "Drowning out opposing views is Un-American".

And they're right aren't they? Land of the free, opportunity for all?
Surely suppressing someone else's opinion is against this?

They're right.
Are you spinning this because you don't like Democrats? You're against the healthcare reform so you don't like anyone who's for it?

All that is being said in the article is that people who disrupt town hall meetings and prevent intelligent debate are un-American, and they're bang on.
too much of that on this forum nowadays. Let everyone speak!

And what are the Democrats doing by utilizing the unions as their private unanswerable army to strongarm people from the townhall meetings?

And what about lawmakers accusing people of hijacking meetings rather than answering their questions?

Are you a Democrat?

Please don't distort the facts.

Thanks.

I don't care. I'm not American, I'm English. We have free national healthcare for everyone and it works great... I've never had any trouble, and can always get the medicine/treatment I need pretty quickly...

you only ever hear the horror stories!

'Free' is kind of a funny word. I was stationed for 3 years in the U.K., and got know quite a few nationals. Seems as if everyone pays 50%+ of their income to the government for this 'free' healthcare system, and other 'free' programs provided by the government. Funny word 'free' is.

S&F. People need to be aware of the mind numbing double standard that exists within this administration and within the liberal movement. Obama the self proclaimed Community Organizer established his career by working for ACORN. We all know about the tactics used by ACORN.

There are two sides to every issue. The issue of healthcare hits people in the gut and has motivated otherwise quiet and understated folks from all parties to speak up to their representatives. Clearly these constituents have been ignored for many years and it has taken a landmark issue like this for people to finally say enough is enough.

To call this behavior Un American is appalling and downright treasonous. This is what our country is all about.

These people were told by Obama on the campaign trail that the healthcare reform process would be a public and transparent. It has been anything but... Perhaps they should have held these townhall meetings long before the lawyers put pen to paper. Identify the worries and concerns of the people FIRST!! and establish your objectives and goals based on the info. from these meetings.

The dems are trying to stifle the opposition in any way possible.

Day laborers who don't speak english were paid to hold professionally printed signs. etc etc

I was flipping around the AM radio stations last week trying to find something to keep me awake while driving on a business trip and happened to tune into Randi Rhodes on Air America. She was talking about Ted Kennedy and how a Republican Congressman made a comment that if Ted Kennedy was in a country with socialized medicine that he would more than likely be sent home with pain killers until he passed.
She thought his line of thinking was insane since (she said) Kennedy already has government healthcare and we will all have the exact same medical options as he does.

My question to people who support government healthcare; Do you honestly believe you will receive the exact same care as a senator, congressman or the president?

Truly shows how 'out of touch' the left is on this issue. This is the plan Senators and Representatives are covered by.

The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program can help you and your family meet your health care needs. Federal employees, retirees and their survivors enjoy the widest selection of health plans in the country. You can choose from among Consumer-Driven and High Deductible plans that offer catastrophic risk protection with higher deductibles, health savings/reimbursable accounts and lower premiums, or Fee-for-Service (FFS) plans, and their Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO), or Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) if you live (or sometimes if you work) within the area serviced by the plan.

If anyone actually thinks this is the plan Obamacare is going to implement, just turn and walk away. They are totally lost, and unrecoverable.

I guess it was ok to have ACORN and other unions bus people to protest AIG at their offices and their homes.

I guess it is ok to have union thugs block access to townhall meetings and it is ok for the politticians to stuff the rooms with ACORN members so no other people can have a voice.

I guess it was ok with this administration to NOT prosecute the black panther thugs who were intimidating people as they entered the voting stations.

I guess it's ok for Pelosi to insult the auto executives for flying in private planes when their companies are going broke, but when the american economy is in the worst slump since 1932, they go out and buy 8 new gulfstream private jets for 550 million of our money.

But when americans want to voice their objection. . . they're told to shut the hell up.

And that's supposed to be ok?

If we were all going to have the same healthcare as our elected reps., there wouldn't be a need for this recently introduced legislation.

I do not think we need more insurance. Health care costs a bundle because we have insurance to pay for it.

What needs to be done is to eliminate all insurance. Eliminate Medicare, Medicaid, and all private health insurance. Make it so that everyone pays for health care with their own money. The cost will have to come down.

One thing that really irks me about health care is the five hundred dollar a night hospital beds and the twelve dollar toothpaste and ten dollar aspirins. How much money do those beds cost anyways. Two weeks of occupancy and that darned bed is already paid for at five hundred dollars a night. Everything after that is pure profit.

Doctors do not need to rack up twenty thousand dollars per shift. I do not care if you went to school for twenty years. Twenty thousand dollars for one hospital shift ( What one of the local ER Doctors charges at.) is too much.

Exactly. And I agree that drowning out opposing views IS un-American and very ugly. These attacks ARE Un-American and they won't drown out the healthcare debate.

Obama: Canadian health system wouldn't fly in US

AP) -- President Barack Obama says Canada's government-run health care system works for Canada, but wouldn't work for the U.S.

He warned Canadians that they will probably continue to get dragged into the debate over health care changes in the U.S. by those who oppose his proposals.

Opponents of Obama's plan to reshape health care have contended it would result in a government-run system where people are denied care, as they say happens in Canada.

Obama said he didn't find Canadians scary but that they were proving a bogeyman for others.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Canadians support their own system but the debate should be left to Americans.

The two spoke in response to a question from a Canadian journalist at a North American summit.

So, Obama said he didn't find Canadians scary but that they were proving a bogeyman for others.

That's interesting

As far as I'm concerned Pelosi and all the other leaders are acting un-American and not listening to the people. Their job is to do the will of the people not the will of the corporations and that goes to both sides. America is on a slippery slope and I hate to see what's happening to our country.

I, and as others have mentioned, am sick of the double standard.

I remember when Bush said if you were against the "war on terror" you were un-American and people went nuts, now two people from the other side say it and now it is time for semantics.

They need to take a step back and think about what they are doing because people are getting heated, and things like this are going to enrage people even more. If anyone of us were sitting in front of an angry mob and instigated them to do something stupid we would be brought up on all kinds of charges.
