quote:
why did he destroy Soddom and Gommorah?

And this story has what to do with being gay? Are you saying because it's in the bible, it makes it wrong?

Are you saying those of us, who are non-christian, are subject to your judgements and punishments?

Are you implying, even though I'm not gay, but I have absolutely no problem with same-sex marriages, that I too am to be punished because I believe it's ok for gays to get married?

OMG, please use a better arguement for not supporting same sex marriage, or any other bytch you might have against anything. I would much rather hear how you personally feel on the subject, not how someone else has programmed you to feel.

Think for yourself
web.archive.org...

The OP in this thread asks one question " If being gay is ok in the eyes of the lord then why did he destroy Soddom and Gommorah?" and gives the entire page of
Genesis Chapter 19

The first response is very typical of those you see today here. First you see this is someone "who isn't gay himself" but just feels like jumping in and getting all vitriolic while he jumps to various conclusions asking for clarification. He then assumes the poster really did say all the things he read into that one question the OP asked and decides to berate the OP as if the OP really said them and follows it up with his criticism over the statements the Op never made. Whats really Ironic is the suggestion the respondent makes to the op at the end saying "Think for yourself" When it is clear the poster is doing all the OP's thinking. We see this tactic used back then as as it is today.

Nothing intelligent about it.

Then we have Politics,

web.archive.org...

This is a post by skeptic, again trying in earnest to give the members of ATS a reputation to live up to in one of many posts attempting to discourage the undisciplined poster from going too far with their particular posting discipline.

"
Discussion and debate will remain focused on the issues, and representation of the respective party platforms and the stance of the candidates. Through discussion, a complete analysis of the issues, influences, and factors of our current age will be examined and compared to which candidate stands for which side (or sides) of each issue.

Any post that engages in an attack on another member, or one of the candidates will be removed and that member's access will be removed from this special forum. - Skeptic Overlord"

So perhaps you are just more sensitive to what you see as the invasion. The only difference between the threads then and now are the names and even they are sometimes the same even creating the same threads over and over again with similar response.

Back then, Gays were still looking for validation while creating threads that talk about the discovery of a gay gene with very similar posts made after and the same action between creationists and evolutionist's with the very same results. By the end of the discussion we observe the following, Birds evolving into birds, lions evolving into lions, e-coli evolving into e-coli and man evolving into man with all the same speculation something else happened and neither of the two sides changing their positions.

The only thing people gain coming here is perhaps a lot of practice to augment their addiction to arguing with people and maybe a more colorful vocabulary where you see many of them beginnig to use words like "assertion" "flawed" "logic" (everyones brand logic is superior to their opponents) "disingenuous" "critical thinking" "Prima facie" "me thinks" "but I digress" "tripe" "intellectual dishonesty" and of course the ignorance you deny is always the other guys.

The faithful are still blind and stupid back in 2004 as we see they are said to be the same today, the race card is used back then where the opportunity presents itself to call someone racist in 2004 as it is today. Atheist's are still rude knowitalls who think their atheism gives them some recently expressed genetic advantage in discusssions about science, Christians are still hypocrites and the butt end of most of the sarcastic jokes or remarks and continue to undermine each others testimony with differen't biblical interpretations in the same threads. Gays back in 2004 as you have already seen, called everyone that disagreed with them ignorant people full of hatred and bigotry.

You think the Republicans are the Birthers? Check out some of the older ATS threads where in not one but two elections the democrats made a big issue out of McCains natural born status.

Its just a more populated version of 2004 so what you see back then is the same as now only some of the details may differ but the truth is always the same. The ad-hom attacks and situational politics that go on are just more saturated.
web.archive.org...

We are all just the mirror of eachother with each of us signing off ATS smug as a bug in a rug thinking we owned the other guy and we love it.

I agree with you,surprised?
True atheists wouldn't waste time on the subject of religion.
Those, who keep spewing, thread after thread bashing any
form of religious theology. Is either a God hater, likes to pick
fights with others,or see how many responses they can add

Your observation is as mine and I never could reconcile the activism of atheists here without seeing a striking resemblance to fundamentalist Christianity. Only I think the atheist's actually study the bible harder, with the intention of not understanding it or even giving it any consideration at all other than to pick out mistakes most of which are easily dismissed as discontextualized quote mining to obfuscate and confuse any lurkers or opposing views. I don't believe in many things debated here such as 2012, reptilians, the idea that the world is completely controlled by some secret society even if they tried I don't see how it can happen getting into the minutia and the ever threatening wrench that can get thrown into the works. Until just now, I don't make it a point to tell children Santa Clause is a myth and your blind faith in getting toys is all a man made agenda to bolster consumer sales during december, I don't mock every child believing in the easter bunny with some asinine comment designed to elevate the emotional temperature of the thread with some analogy of the flying spaghetti bunny. I wouldn't waste time arguing with belivers in reptillians constantly saying "proof" "proof" where is your "proof", UNLESS I had some sort of axe to grind for instance the reptile people kept coming to my house every ten minutes of every day trying to shove an old 4000 year old book down my throat bibleboarding me into submission with my conversion to their cult.

I have seen such exaggerations made by atheists to justify their angst of religion but in my experience, I just don't see that much Christianity being talked about out there unless you ask. I'm sure it happens but enough to justify some of the bluster I have seen here is just very hard for me to accept as true. The actions to convert those to atheism pontificating the virtues atheism promises of "free thought" as if I pay for mine now, or better logic as if the whole sharade is logical and blaming my whole miserable life on God, the one I don't believe in.

I remember when atheists were just people without religion or belief in God that when they sneezed and you said bless you, they didn't get the aclu and try to sue you for offending them. If they hate something that much, then surely it is understandable to doubt their disbelief.

Now watch, I,m going to get hit with the cookie cutter copy pasted talking points about the evil religion has caused crusades, witch trials blah blah blah blah as if societies where religion was NOT, didn't commit even worse atrocities and since atheism has no belief system they didn't have to do all that killing in atheism's name so conventional wisdom wouold dicate that for the godless society, they killed millions for its own sweet sake.

Sorry Ultradyne,

I dont have any cookie cutter materials to post.

It is satisfying to note that someone else out here knows of this history and I am often given to explaining such to athiests and other unbelievers.

I would also like to note that many of these millions have been killed in the last hundred years or so...in the Age of Enlightened Reasonable Logical Men.

Good to see that someone else knows the history.

Thanks,

My very first post on ATS. The endless rants in this thread are a prime example of what will hold mankind back in our quest to gain factual knowledge. We go on disagreeing, thus dividing ourselves, over petty issues that are given a false aura of importance and relavancy by media, while those concealing real difference-making and all-encompassing facts continue thier progress in controlling us, our rights to everything, and our knowledge. Leave our needless political, sexual and religious preference discussions to those looking for importance and instead focus solely on things that are....above top secret.

well i don't personally like the character of jabba. and since i'm female, i didn't want to depict myself as a guy but i also didn't want to depict myself as a babe in a bikini or else i'd have chosen the rotj metal bikini avatar lol
but since you think it's that big of a deal, i've gone even more non-descript.

eventually, it'll be cause it's blue or has stars on it or that i have an avatar at all
i'm sure you can think up a reason why this one is meant to be manipulatively evil as well.

Wow. I'm sorry if I came across as mean-spirited. My comments were meant more in jest than criticism.

Honestly, and I can provide a name, a lady regular around here who alerted me to the powerful attraction of sexy female and celeb avatars.

A fat old guy using an avatar with Britney Spears in a revealing outfit would find himself with a lot of 'friends' and get loads of stars, flags, personal messages, Christmas cards - believe me.

This thread has been invaded by [politically-charged insult removed] then the [politically-charged insult removed] tried to justify themselves with they're [politically-charged insult removed] in order to further they're [politically-charged insult removed] agenda.

I cant even make my point without [politically-charged insult removed] jumping in and telling me I am a [politically-charged insult removed].

By the way this post was satire.

I just joined this forum and I find it not as mysterious and cutting edge as I thought.

Way too many cookie cutter political threads here with people venting about the current administration. I find it disturbing that during the two horrendous Bush terms these keyboard warriors sat back and said nothing.

Listen to this guy joinded 8/13/09

Just joined forum, have you been lurking for years? For if not, how do you know whether or not anyone has attacked Bush policies as much as Obama policies.

You are a perfect example of someone generalizing supposed facts and attacking by misdirection. Because you just joined must mean that this site is crap-get the drift. From what I have seen on this site, the majority of the people here can see through the facade of Dem this Repub that. The divisiveness in our country is directly proportional to the idiotic responses by uneducated and ignorant people. If you do not have anything constructive to say or a defense of your position or facts to support your supposition-get it.

Yes, and I've seen this with every forum that grows too big.

Commercialisation takes over and quantity replaces quantity.

Too many rules and you have exactly what ATS rails against growing from within...
